Morgan had already decided to bring Sunny to Valor no matter what. There were two things he held over their spellsmiths that made him a priority.
First was his ability to create memories with the enchantments he envisioned. Second was the time he took to do it.
Sunny could not only directly grant enchantments, but took far less time to do it. This put him a step above the spellsmiths even with the added detriment of his memories being weaker. To her at least, this put his value at about ten times that of a regular spellsmith.
Morgan could definitely forcefully take him, but she'd rather not sour the relationship. It would be much better if Sunny would willingly come with her.
She had many options present to her, some she was more willing to do than others.
'Political marriage is not really an option here, if he was a saint maybe, or if he could make supreme memories. Anything less isn't valuable enough to give away the opportunity of a better connection.'
While she was going over a few options ranging from honey traps to coercion, Sunny led her to some stairs.
Morgan followed him down them and into a room far fancier than one that should be under a cafe.
She glanced around, silently impressed by the volume of memories he had up on the walls around them and in display cases.
At some point, he stopped and turned around, placing a case onto the table. Morgan watched as he opened it, looking at the bow and quiver placed in the velvet cutouts.
'Impressive presentation.' She moved to pick up the bow, glancing at Sunny with a silent question.
He nodded and she smiled, picking the bow out of its case and admiring it. 'Delicate craftsmanship, he's very good with his hands.'
She admired the pattern work and simple embellishments, it was practical and not too flashy, but had enough personality to be distinct.
Morgan noticed that he used some of the same materials and the same pattern on both the bow and the quiver to make them a pair.
Her smile grew wider. "And I assume they have the agreed upon enchantments?"
"Yes, but I took some liberties to make it more practical." He continued at her silent question.
"Anything placed between the bow and the string will be moved when the string is shot, but there is also an active enchantment that forces it into the shape of an arrow that only loses form on hit. The quiver has no changes, you can store an element by exposing the quiver to it and apply it to any arrow placed inside, memories included."
She immediately noticed a weakness, "What if the quiver breaks under the element?"
He sighed, "that I couldn't work around, so I put a passive durability increase on it."
"Then I am satisfied, You will be paid through the discussed means." Sunny nodded and held out his hand. She shook it, her gloves doing their job to protect others from her flaw.
As she shook his hand, he transferred both memories to her and she silently summoned their runes.
Memory: Bow fit for a Saint
Memory Rank: Transcendent
Memory Description: [A bow that fires quickly. Can shoot anything. The finest of Sunny's Brilliant Emporium.]
Memory: Quiver fit for a Saint
Memory Rank: Transcendent
Memory Description: [A quiver that enchants arrows. The finest of Sunny's Brilliant Emporium.]
"Is there something wrong?" Her face must have looked strange because Sunny seemed concerned.
Morgan was shocked, enough for her smile to falter. She was surprised that he could make custom names and descriptions for memories, but was mainly appalled at his terrible naming sense.
She shook it off and looked up at him, "Please don't name memories." Her smile had come back, but was now slightly strained.
***
'Why?!' Sunny screamed internally. Of course he knew that his naming wasn't as good as the spell, but surely it wasn't that bad?
He remembered that he called the bow 'Bow fit for a Saint' and the quiver 'Quiver fit for a Saint' because Morgan said she wanted a memory fit for a saint.
He thought about it, outraged, but then his expression grew a little downcast. '...Maybe it is that bad.'
'It doesn't matter, the memory itself is good. I purposely used materials from corrupted beasts and monsters so it's weaker than it would usually be'
Sunny's own smile fell a little but he tried to play it off. "You can request custom names and descriptions in future."
Of course he could fix it now, but he wanted Morgan off of his back, at least for a little bit.
"This is good, it's better than I was expecting. You know, with this level of skill, the lack of a familial connection to Valor isn't a problem, you could become a venerated forgemaster." Morgan was still smiling, but was watching his expression like a hawk.
'Oh no' Despite his efforts, it seemed Sunny hadn't downplayed his skills enough, she still wanted him.
He didn't let his inner emotions leak into his expression, keeping it in a smile. "I appreciate the offer, but my dream was to run a cafe like this."
Morgan's expression didn't change, Sunny was sure that she had anticipated his response.
"Why not give it a try, one week should be enough for your name to get around." To him, her intentions were somewhat readable.
'If I try it for a week she can spread my name, and then even if I want to go back, I'd have to endure the pressure of everyone that had come to expect his services.' His face still had a smile on it, but it didn't reach his eyes anymore.
"I'm quite happy with my life at the moment, I don't particularly want anything else." Morgan's expression still didn't falter in the slightest, but it seemed to grow more sinister in his eyes.
"Oh I insist." Her voice was laced with malice, it was a barely concealed threat.
Sunny sighed internally, 'What did I do to get into this mess?"
