Chapter 12: The Sect Depository
After months of relentless effort, Da Cai had finally accumulated enough sect points to redeem resources for his cultivation. His first stop was the Apothecary Hall, a grand structure with walls painted in shades of green. The air was thick with the scent of herbs and pills, a testament to the hall's purpose.
Da Cai procured two types of pills. The first was the Qi Condensation Pill, essential for breaking through to the next stage of the Mortal Realm. The second was a staple pill, the Spirit Qi Enhancement Pill, which would assist him in absorbing spiritual Qi from his surroundings during cultivation. He carefully placed the pills in his pouch, feeling a surge of motivation.
Next, he headed to the Vault of Eternal Techniques, the sect's depository for cultivation methods and techniques. According to senior Outer Disciples, it was highly recommended to choose a cultivation method that enhanced the body, as it would aid in completing the physically demanding sect tasks. However, the Vault also offered techniques from other categories for those who preferred a different path.
The Vault of Eternal Techniques was a towering nine-level pagoda, its exterior adorned with intricate carvings of ancient battles and mythical creatures. An Inner Disciple stood at the entrance, his presence both authoritative and unyielding.
"Outer Disciples may select one Mortal-level cultivation technique," the Inner Disciple informed Da Cai. "Remember, silence is mandatory inside the Vault. Disruptions will not be tolerated."
Da Cai nodded respectfully before stepping inside. The first level of the pagoda was vast, with shelves upon shelves of books and scrolls. The air was charged with a faint energy, as if the techniques themselves carried a trace of the cultivators who had used them over the centuries. Though curious about the higher levels, Da Cai noticed a shimmering barrier at the staircase—a clear indication that he wasn't permitted to ascend further.
He began browsing the shelves, overwhelmed by the sheer variety of techniques. There were manuals on body refinement, combat skills, spiritual Qi manipulation, and even esoteric arts. Each technique seemed to promise a different path, and Da Cai found himself pausing to consider the implications of his choice.
"What should I pick?" he muttered to himself, his mind racing. He knew this decision would shape his cultivation journey, and he couldn't afford to choose lightly.
