"Oh"
A bottle of water has been thrown to everyone who finished running around the field this morning. Trainees are being challenged every day to see the potential of each of them. Joining the military these days is getting more complicated, a lot of trainees don't make it to graduation because they are quitting early. Some say that high-ranking officers are doing unnecessary training for the trainees but some say, they witnessed how a lot of weak trainees were being tortured inside which led them to death.
"This is the second time that we will remind you not to bring any food inside your pocket while you are at your training" The man with the mullet haircut warned.
The trainees immediately bowed their heads to ask for forgiveness.
"Hey Jung Ki-Sung, don't be too hard on them" A man walked into his location and tapped his shoulder gently "Someone's gonna arrive this morning so we need to prepare"
Ki-Sung wrinkled his forehead out of curiosity "Someone?" He asked and threw the last bottle without looking.
"You mean a visitor?"
Tae-Min laughed at him and ruffled his hair "You didn't know? Maybe Commander Eun-Jae forgot to remind you again. The generals will be arriving this morning to check on our newly promoted Captain Min-Joon" He stated, his jaw dropped when a couple of vehicles entered the station.
Tae-Min pushed Ki-Sung to compose themselves while waiting for the VIP to step out of the car.
"But Captain is not yet here" Ki-Sung whispered to him.
The two high-ranking officers stride from their vehicle. They looked too fierce which made the two scared to move, a salute was made by the two when they passed by but one of the generals stopped and asked "I heard Captain Min-Joon was out of the office at the moment. Do you know where he is?"
Ki-Sung cleared his throat "I don't know where he is Sir" He stuttered.
The General wasn't convinced at all, that was not the answer he was expecting.
"Pardon?"
"Ah. Yes, Sir, I will ask him to come back now" Ki-Sung shouted and ran out of the gate to look somewhere to find Captain Min-Joon.
He hasn't been far from the station when he stumbles into Min-Joon and Eun-Jae, he quickly salutes and says "The Generals are looking for you Capt. Min Joon"
Min-Joon handed the bottle of iced coffee to Eun-Jae and walked hurriedly to the station.
Not too long when Min-Joon reached the office where he saw the General looking around. He doesn't show any nervousness at the thought that the General wants to talk to him personally.
"Oh, there you are Capt. Hyun" General Moon greeted him.
Min-Joon gives him a salute before they proceed inside the office. Before entering, Min-Joon gave a cue to his subordinate to serve tea for two.
"Have a seat"
Min-Joon took the command and sat across them "I'm sorry if you have to drive a long way just to talk to me privately. I can make time to come to your office instead" He apologizes.
"You don't need to apologize, Well, we are also visiting other stations so we decided to give you a visit. Looks like everything is going well this time. I heard some unlawful acts have been solved quickly. I didn't make the wrong choice to promote you Capt. Hyun"
Min-Joon simply heard the two elderly men conversing in front of him. It truly bothers him to see them near their station. He is aware of some poor choices these men have made in the past. It was not the nation or the people that these people tried to uphold, but only politics, wealth, and power.
As a casual and introspective thinker, Min-Joon developed unspoken ideas that had remained unanswered since joining the military. He confided what he knew to Eun-Jae and no one else. Everyone didn't anticipate a young man to be a captain so quickly, but he utilized his knowledge and abilities to get to this point. Although Min-Joon also wasn't expecting it to happen so soon, he is aware that he will eventually advance to the rank of captain or higher.
"So, what's your plan?"
Min-Joon snapped out of his thoughts when Major General asked him.
"What do you mean Sir?" He questioned.
General Moon leaned forward and gave a small envelope "I know you are smart enough about what position you are in right now" He stated. Min-Joon slowly got the envelope and opened it, he took out several pictures of wealthy families and well-known politicians "Well, being part of a high-ranking officer is very hard for us. We need to follow the command that came from the higher-ups while making our plans on how to execute the order"
Turning the pictures and staring at them for a few seconds were the only things that Min-Joon was doing right now. He knitted his brows before putting it back on the table.
"Protection?" Min-Joon directly said.
General Moon beams a smile "Exactly"
"Why me? I mean, there are a lot of Captains and well-trusted personnel out there. I don't get it"
"You are the personnel we trust the most, therefore we can't just hand this responsibility off to others. Some of them aren't even capable of self-defense, so why even give them this responsibility?"
Min-Joon scoffed in disbelief "They were trained, you can't say they are incapable of self-defense"
General Moon got up from his seat and walked towards the window to watch the trainees.
"I've been keeping my eyes on you Min-Joon since you entered the Military, I know you have this potential to become a leader. In this world of the military, there are only two things that we should look forward to, Position and power. So tell me Min-Joon, which one will you choose?"
Min-Joon kept his mouth shut, Position and power? Those words were carved in his head already.
General Moon took out his cigarette and lit it up inside the office.
"Of course, we are not giving you an order now. We will give you enough time to prepare. But one thing for sure, these people will help you through the years of serving in our nation" He said and pressed the cigarette on the table, leaving a small burn "If you decide to accept this duty, you can visit my office any time"
Before the Generals decided to leave, he even left a message to Min-Joon "I know you know one of the elites out there, protecting him will give you benefit" He seriously said before walking out of the office.
Min-Joon expected this to happen. He knows some officers are personally protecting some elites from harm. These days, wealthy families are being targeted by kidnappers and terrorists asking for ransom or just kill them. Using their money, they asked for protection from the military to secretly secure their safety in exchange for power and money. Even other well-known security firms cannot keep them safe, there are strong people behind terrorism happening to wealthy families.
The military is the only way to protect them without thinking about possible danger outside.
"Being rich is terrible" Min-Joon whispered and tossed the pictures on his table before plunging his body onto the chair.
Eun-Jae suddenly appeared, holding the iced coffee they bought earlier "What happened? Did they ask you to do dirty jobs?" He laughed softly.
"More likely a stupid job" He shook his head "There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed and taken attention but they chose to give me this shitty idea"
"If I were you, I would accept it to have points and live a lavish life, you can retire young"
"Are you for real or just foolish?" Min-Joon scoffed
Eun-Jae laughed "Cool man, I'm just teasing you"
The latter took a peek at the pictures on the table but Min-Joon grabbed it like a bullet out of the gun. Despite knowing each other for too long, Min-Joon knows that this special duty needs to be kept a secret. Hiding the envelope inside the drawer is the only thing he can do right now.
"I'm hurt, you've been keeping secrets from me," Eun-Jae said, pouting his lips.
Min-Joon pulled out the pile of papers and signaled Eun-Jae to go out.
"Wow, I can't believe this" Eun-Jae chuckled.
He was about to turn around and leave when he remembered something "Oh! I almost forgot, by chance no one informed you since you are a very busy person, for the third time, they are asking you to join dinner tonight"
Min-Joon stopped flipping the pages but didn't look at him "I'm busy"
"Come on Mi-"
"Get back to work Commander Eun-Jae" Min-Joon sternly said, This forced the man to stop talking and give him a courteous salute before departing.
Reading the cases was making him busy and diverting his attention to something else but his phone suddenly vibrated, he checked it and found out that the message was from Hui Soo.
"Are you coming tonight?"
"You can just eat and leave if you are too busy"
