"Dad the police men are looking for you all over town as a wanted criminal,we must leave before they find you,I don't want to lose you again please"I pleaded with my father but he wouldn't listen"Jazzy my dear I can't come with you to Lagos,I can't face your mother, I've caused her so much pain and she would never accept me back"Dad couldn't control his emotion as tears flowed down,he cried like a baby and I felt pity for him.He narrated the story of how he met mom,she was a beautiful young lady working as a waitress at the bar he and his friends usually go to every evening to drink and discuss on how the day had been, he was a delivery guy at J.J Logistics but seeing mom every evening whenever he came with his friends ,her beautiful smile whenever she attended to them, her figure and gait was turning heads especially Dad's head, and trust them they'll always want to shoot their shot and it happened one evening when he came to the bar alone,he didn't want to come with his friends so that they won't ruin his chances of wooing her.He mustered all the courage he had in him and called her to his table, she came smiling as usual thinking he wanted to order something when he told her to sit that he wanted to tell her something but she refused on the basis that she's not to be seen sitting with a customer talking while on duty,he quickly understood and apologize while she went back to continue her duty, though they kept exchanging quick glances while she served other customers,so he decided to wait till she was off duty and when she left the premises he followed and called her attention and as every girl would do, they'll want you to keep calling them so that they display their shakara very well but eventually she gave him audience and one thing left to another they were madly in love with each other;my mom's name was Ifeoma while my dad's name was Francis, her mother didn't approve of their relationship, sometimes she chases dad out of the house whenever he comes around to see her, telling her to be focused and stop following small small boys that have nothing to offer as she would always say but my mom was blinded by love and onw night she left the house and went to stay with Francis,my dad;her mother was heartbroken and cried wishing she'll come to her senses and return home but she didn't.Ifeoma my mom kept working at the bar, earning a reasonable salary likewise my dad but it all ended when she became pregnant with me and she stopped working,as in she was fired and my dad was having challenges at work, his salary couldn't foot the bills and take care of them but they managed to survived.Night months later she gave to me,I was the most beautiful baby in the world,so so cute then the responsibilities doubled,it came to a time he couldn't handle it again and left the house, abandoning my mom and I ,she did all kinds of manual jobs to raise money to take care of both of us, she prayed to God that he'll return home and like a miracle he came back home after two years only to get her pregnant again and left for good.My mom was twenty-six when she gave birth to Gillian and I,her sister who graduated from the University and married a minister who eventually became a senator was the only one who came to stay with her and assisted her when she was pregnant till she delivered her baby. Her sister,my aunt always made sure we lacked nothing but my mom didn't want to get too attached because people can change even your own blood. My mom declined the offer of a job by my aunt,a nice furnished duplex, except schooling, she allowed her enroll us in the best school on the state because she wanted us to be educated to the last level just as she couldn't finish hers. She hated my father she told us he was dead,he causes her so much pain, her dreams to be a Lawyer was shattered. My dad left Lagos and moved to Port Harcourt to start a new life but things became tougher,he started indulging in illegal activities, robbing people and causing them pain, the crimes he committed was so much,it hurt him so much even as he narrated it to me,at a point I felt pity for him and hugged him and we cried, holding each other so close I never wanted to let go,then the sound of gunshots in the air separated us,his men shouted "Oppo don land o"and in a flash he lifted up on his shoulders and ran to the back of the uncompleted building, his men also ran for their lives, some shot back at the police officers who were already surrounding the building but Mt father managed to escape through a narrow road that was unnoticeable,he put me down when we got to the road and we boarded a taxi to the nearest park,we got there and boarded a bus going to Lagos,I was so scared my heartbeat was racing at top speed likewise my dad who looked around frantically making sure he was not followed. My dad remembered there were police check point on the road to Lagos and as someone who was wanted by the police it wasn't a good idea,so he found a lorry transporting plantains to Lagos and begged the driver if we could stay at the back where the plantains were but I didn't know how my dad could convince him to allow the driver transport us to Lagos because he didn't let me listen to their conversation,so we climbed to the back and sat on the plantains, they were unripe one so they didn't get spoilt while we sat on them.Dad held me to calm my nerves as the lorry drove to Lagos and drove home.
