Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Flowering

In the night of this era, there was basically no entertainment. Ethan Drake had originally considered gathering everyone to sing and dance around the campfire. But he quickly realized he was overthinking things. After a day of exhausting work and scarce food, no one had the strength or mood to celebrate.

Instead, everyone took a brief rest, chatted for a few minutes, and retreated to their tents. Ethan took this opportunity to pull the old man aside to discuss the matter of 'names.' Clearly, he intended to delegate the responsibility of naming others to the tribe's elder.

Ethan rattled off a dozen common surnames he could recall, though he wasn't confident in reciting the full hundred-family names. As he listed them, the system chimed in, its presence unmistakable.

**System Tip:** *Congratulations to the player "Ethan Drake" for establishing a "Surname System," gaining 100 civilization points and 10 culture points.*

The unexpected points rewarded for something as simple as surnames surprised Ethan, but it made sense. Surnames were a vital cultural pillar, passed down for generations. If only he could recall the full family name sequence—he'd likely earn even more civilization and culture points. For now, though, he left the task to the elder to digest at his own pace.

After explaining everything, Ethan stretched his arms, relieved to finally focus on other matters. His mind buzzed with ideas from the day's activities.

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Rio Drake, sharpening his twin stone axes as instructed. A thought flickered in Ethan's mind, and with it, a property panel materialized before him.

"Looks like I can view their property panels after all," Ethan muttered, his interest piqued. Being able to assess his tribe's strengths and weaknesses could be invaluable.

**Name:** Rio Drake

**Sex:** Male

**Age:** 26

**Status:** Exhausted

**Affiliation:** Mirror Lake Tribe

**Loyalty:** 100 (Dead loyal: Unconditionally obeys any of your orders and will not betray under any circumstances.)

**Bravery:** ★★★☆

**Intelligence:** ★★

**Spirit:** ★★☆

**Endurance:** ★★★☆

**Command:** ★☆☆

**Talent:** Natural Strength – Possesses immense strength, 100% greater than average.

**Skill:** *The More You Fight, the Braver You Become* (Passive) – Increases bravery by 1 star during combat, with a 30% activation chance.

**Warfare:** None

Ethan's eyes widened. The loyalty bar caught his attention immediately. A full 100 points—absolute loyalty. That alone brought a grin to his face, but Rio's stats were equally impressive. While his intelligence was on the low side, his bravery and endurance capped at four stars, and his combat-related skill promised even more potential.

"A genuine warrior," Ethan murmured, satisfaction brimming. Rio's loyalty wasn't just statistical—it reflected the bond forged through trust and leadership.

He briefly glanced at Rio, his powerful frame highlighted by the firelight as he diligently sharpened his weapons. Ethan knew he couldn't expect five-star prodigies in this era, but Rio's attributes exceeded his expectations. A proper battle-hardened figurehead for the tribe.

Turning his focus, Ethan pulled up another property panel, this time belonging to James Drake, his scout.

**Name:** James Drake

**Sex:** Male

**Age:** 23

**Status:** Exhausted

**Affiliation:** Mirror Lake Tribe

**Loyalty:** 100

**Bravery:** ★★

**Intelligence:** ★★☆

**Spirit:** ★★★☆

**Endurance:** ★★☆

**Command:** ★★☆

**Talent:** Keen Observer – A 30% chance to discover something new during observation.

**Skill:** *Reconnaissance* (Passive) – Increases mission success rate by 10%.

**Warfare:** None

Ethan let out a low whistle. "A born scout," he said with a grin. While James wasn't a warrior like Rio, his potential in intelligence, spirit, and endurance made him an invaluable asset for reconnaissance and strategic planning. The talent and skill aligned perfectly for someone in his role, ensuring the success of missions.

Feeling satisfied, Ethan glanced around the fire at the others. Most of their loyalty hovered above ninety, with a few even reaching a full hundred. However, none of their property panels stood out like Rio's and James's. Many possessed modest two or three-star attributes, with nothing extraordinary to note.

Ethan sighed but smiled nonetheless. Two exceptional individuals out of thirty-four wasn't bad, especially in this harsh era.
