Chapter 4 - Work

As life was unfair to particularly humans before the advent so was it after it. Across the planet all humans were affected by Tao, their genetic makeup being altered by the mysterious energy, but while in some, the changes were fast in some it was slow, and even after a century, there were still those who were yet to be fully altered and blessed with mysterious powers.

Those who had fully been worked on by Tao and could display supernatural feats were referred to as the evolved while those who still performed and displayed within the boundary of pre-advent humans were referred to as unevolved.

Initially, a strong campaign for those with super abilities to call themselves new humans had been launched but the top heroes and governments around the world had firmly crushed it already seeing the adverse effect it would have on the race.

Unfortunately, humans were innately racial, naturally preordained to find comfort in those similar to them and begrudgingly the leaders of the world unofficially allowed the name to evolve and unevolved circulate around the people.

Though it made a division between humans, it was better than that which sought to create a whole new race.

Moving around and beating people wasn't something Nash normally did, he reserved using his hard-earned strength for beating up really troublesome people and those who talked down on Yellowman.

Nash hadn't initially had any plan for either Sleazypant or Superhot, but after the two had boldly given their address and one of them happened to stay not too far away, he decided to force some Yellow into the unfortunate soul.

For all his Maturity Nash was aware that he could sometimes be as petty as a little kid and he readily ignored this.

Arriving at work, a store where he acted as the cashier, Nash breathed a sigh of relief, glad that he was on time and then started his shift.

Work was dull for the day and he liked it just like that as it gave him time to read some of his school books and know what his teachers were ranting about in class.

The silence of the store greatly pleased Nash, a feeling his manager would in no life share and it was after several hours had gone by that his attention was brought away from his book by the man who tapped on the counter.

"Yes"

"Turn up the volume an emergency news is being broadcast."

Looking up at the TV somewhat hanging from the ceiling near the exit of the store, Nash picked up the remote and upped the volume from the zero it initially was, his ears perked.

Both Nash and the customer watched the news for several seconds, paying attention to what was being said before the silence was then broken by the customer's solemn voice.

"I really hope Iron Breaker can handle oblivion. Why these villains choose to have their battle in populated areas I just can't understand. I mean it's inhuman enough that they choose to act against the interest of the race looking to satisfy just their selfish desire, but why don't they also constrain some of their acts and do it someplace where others won't get hurt."

Though there were a lot of holes in the customer's words, Nash remained silent as he watched the screen, he paid no mind to the other few people who entered the store and joined in watching clips of the battle.

"This battle won't end well, Iron breaker is C rank while Oblivion is B rank, with his need to watch out for civilians and limit damage, Iron Breaker is heavily disadvantaged, he should be ready to give up this fight and let Oblivion have his way."

Nash had just barely finished his words when the gazes of around 3 or 4 people who were older than him fell on him and he was quickly rebuked.

"Young man if you don't have anything to say then keep shut, how dare you go around slandering heroes who are putting their lives on the line, have you no shame or respect."

Ignoring the words of the older man, Nash kept his eyes focused on the screen paying no mind to the mutterings or insults that were being made at him and some minutes later he could not help but make another comment.

"The Badtard should let him go, it's clear he can't defeat Oblivion"

"What the hell are you saying, can't you see that he's got Oblivion trapped?"

"Yes, but he needs to also understand that Oblivion is not some typical street villain, he is a hardcore criminal who wouldn't mind going the extra mile to get what he wants."

The people in the store had just started throwing another round of insults at Nash when Oblivion who received a hard hit to his shoulder and was sent crashing to the ground rolled to his feet and pressed a button in his hand.

Just as oblivion pressed the button, the screen went blank, the signal to the channel having been lost and when a tremble from far away reached Nash, his eyes hardened and looking at the people within the store, he fiercely gave a command.

"Everyone get out."
