Chapter 47
"Josh, are you okay?" I asked as I bent down to help flip him over and check his breathing.
Replace my ear to his chest, checking for any indication of his breathing or heart rate.
Becky replied, staring at Josh with worry. "I don't get it. His demon abilities should be allowing him to heal faster."
"Maybe that's not the problem. He might be able to heal his wounds, but he must be having problems with the blood loss he's endured."
"Hello, hello, are you still there? Kaysi, Becky, are you okay?"
"Oh shoot, sorry. We found Josh. He seemed to have collapsed. We found him outside of the woods. He seems to be able to breathe, but his heart rate is a bit slow. I believe he took on many injuries from a sword; I might have had too much blood loss. His demon ability should allow him to heal from the wounds, but I don't know what to do from here."
"Stay close to him, the two of you. If he's missing too much blood, we might need to find Evan to help donate some blood. To see anywhere close by."
"No," Becky interjected. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think maybe Evan caused Josh's sword injuries."
"Do you really think he's capable of that? This could also be due to a demonic attack from a deabur. Or if it is Evan, it could be a position."
"That could also be true, I guess."
"I don't want you to suspect the worst right now, but you both should still be on your guard. Once we get Josh and a safe place, we will regroup with the others and find the Elder. Calian wishes to come with us as well."
"What about Zayiah? Does she not wish to come right now?"
"She does, but we found it best for her to stay behind to aid at the new location where they have the sick. I want you guys to take whatever precaution is necessary to protect yourselves. A portal is trying to open if it hasn't already. Darkness seems to be befalling the village."
"We understand. We will do our best and contact you if we need any assistance from here while we wait." Click...
"So Becky, in the case of an emergency, how are we going to move Josh?? It's essential that we come up with a plan while we can.
Ring...
"They are calling back to us?" Becky looked at the phone, confused.
"Yes, Hello?" I said, looking at Becky. I was just as confused as she was.
"Kaysi, you and Becky get Josh and get out of the village immediately!" I could hear screaming and fighting in the background.
"What is going on? Are you okay there?"
"There seems to be a riot going on. They think it was the cause of their Elder being kidnapped. They said their Village became cursed because of a demon. They think it's Josh or Micah."
"Micah won't stay either. We need to find her. Do we have the ability to call her?"
"Kaysi, look over there. You don't have to."
Micah was but then earshot. "No, you don't have to find us; we are right here. We decided to reevaluate. Some of the villagers are acting mad. I'm not upset, but something seems to be wrong. I don't know if a virus or some confrontational war is happening between them. They were attacking each other. The thing that I don't understand is that some of them seem to be family members, and we have to talk to one person who was in their right mind trying to stay away. They said one family member started acting funny, and the other started attacking. They said it wasn't in their nature to attack each other, that nothing was said that they knew of. They just started fighting."
"That's strange. Baby, Duke, did you hear all that you said? There are people fighting and claiming that it's our fault on your side of town."
"Yes, but now, thinking about it, it could be some type of virus or something else?"
"Do you think something else could include a demon? Can they affect more than one person at a time? Or are there multiple demons in the area?"
"While I told you before, the dark cloud over top of the village seems to have been growing something similar to
Miasma, either way, it doesn't spell good news."
"All right, we'll meet up at that creek, which was too far from the tiger demons Den outside the village."
"Be safe with your travels, and we will see you soon."
"So Josh is pretty knocked out, huh?" Micah so that she lifted his arm and let it go, watching it drop to the ground."
"Micah??? Why would you do that?" Becky scalded.
"Sorry, you know Josh, he has a damn tough nut to crack, but I didn't expect him actually to be knocked out."
"Do you think he was just sitting here sleeping while we were talking?"
"Okay, so what's the plan? How are we going to move this big lug?"
"I hate to interrupt." James tapped Micah's shoulder as he looked out while we talked. But it's time for us to leave immediately. There seems to be a light over the hill coming in our direction. It very well could be the villagers coming."
"Nice eye, James, I think, and in the middle of this madness, I wouldn't mind if we took the horses and the trailer over there." I pointed to some horses that were not too at a stable outside of a large hut. Does anybody know how to ride a horse, much less hook up a trailer?"
"I do! James volunteered, raising his hand in the air."
"As do I. I can help you out if that's okay with you. Micah concurred,"
"Okay, you guys work together, and Becky will attempt to get Josh upright so that when you're ready, we can just get them on there and go."
Micah cut into the middle of my statement, asking. "Where is Evan anyway when you need him?"
"Nothing's officially been proven, but we're thinking that the injuries that Josh sustained may have been from Evan's sword. So just be cautious if we run into him."
"Okay, then, Micah sighed. We should hurry up and be on our way, shouldn't we? If I come across him, then we'll just have to figure it out."
Micah raced over and started, "I'm trying the horse from the stable." James worked to pull the trailer close behind the horse. As they finished connecting the horse, we had just barely gotten Josh sitting up against a tree.
We only had a few seconds to react. James was right. It was the villagers coming over the top of the hill, now within fuel view, only a couple hundred feet from us. Even the ones that seemed to be sick earlier were up and walking close to us. Something didn't seem right. They were indeed angry, but I couldn't help but feel something else was going on.
"Let's go, Kaysi!" Becky had her hand out. James and Becky, I was able to get Josh onto the trailer with Micah's help.
"Hey, I giddy up!" Micah said as she whipped the rain, and I kicked the horse's sides to get it to move as there was no saddle on its back.
"We've got to get out of here quick!" Micah shouted at the horse. The villagers were moving fast. They were only a few feet behind us now.
"Get to the tiger's demon den and be careful of the trees," I shouted to Micah, holding on to Josh in case we hit any bumps.
As we went into the woods, the villagers turned, going into the thick with us. I hope we lose them soon before we get to our location, but I don't want to have to fight them.
Just before I could finish my thought, arrows flew through the sky. One that was on fire hit the side of the trailer, and another hit the hip of the horse as it was running.
