Chapter 3 - MISSION BRIEFING

Professor Lumen stood before the class, a sleek, silver array strapped to her wrist. "Today, we embark on a critical mission. Your objective is to gather intel and complete high-priority objectives in a high-threat environment."

She raised her arm, and the array projected a holographic display. The students watched as a swirling, green portal materialized before them.

"Before we begin, let's divide into teams," Professor Lumen announced. "You'll be working in groups of four. Your team's success will depend on communication, strategy, and trust."

The students looked around, some exchanging nervous glances. Professor Lumen handed out small, wrist-mounted devices.

"These are your team comms devices. They'll allow you to stay in touch with your teammates during the mission."

The students strapped on their devices, and Professor Lumen announced the team assignments:

"Team Alpha: Ethan, Lucas, Maya, and Lilia.

Team Bravo: Rachel, Michael, Emily, and Chris.

Team Charlie: Liam, Julian, Ava, and Samantha.

Team Delta: Ben, Olivia, Jackson, and Alexander."

Ethan's eyes met Lucas', and he felt a surge of relief. Lucas was one of the few people who truly cared for Ethan, and he was glad to have him on the mission. He also noticed Sofia, the new girl, who was now part of his team.

The teams nodded, some members exchanging brief introductions.

Professor Lumen turned to the portal. "Remember, the mission area is divided into sectors. Each sector has a designated threat level, indicated by a color code:

Green: Fully explored, low threat.

Yellow: Partially explored, moderate threat.

Orange: High threat, proceed with caution.

Red: Unexplored, extreme threat."

She handed out small, flexible tablets. "These are your sector maps. Study them carefully, and plan your approach accordingly."

The students took a deep breath, shouldering their gear. With a final check of their comms devices, they steeled themselves for the unknown dangers ahead.

"Remember, teamwork is crucial," Professor Lumen emphasized. "Stay together, watch each other's backs, and you'll succeed."

With a nod, the teams stepped forward, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

As they approached the portal, Ethan felt a mix of excitement and nerves. He glanced at Lucas, who gave him a reassuring smile.

"Let's do this," Lucas said, his voice low and steady.

Ethan nodded, taking a deep breath. Together, they stepped through the swirling, green portal, into the unknown.
