Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: From Foe to Refuge

Wolf's POV

Following this being through this mysterious thing filled with swirling colors, I hoped he wouldn't change his mind. I had always known it was everyone for themselves since I was just a small pup. So to see one of my past opponents, one I had nearly killed, tell me that he would give me a place to live, I was astonished. This goes against anything I have known.

Exiting, a feeling of comfort filled my body. Surprised, I looked as vast lands filled with life entered my view.

"Wh... Where are we?"

"My home," he replied, a smile printed on his face.

"So what do you think?"

"The deadlands don't compare to this. The mana feels more alive here, unlike when it felt stagnant. There was what seemed like wood encompassing the area."

"Then turn around."

"Turn around. O.. okay"

Turning around, I was shaken once again. Green as far as my eyes could see. What was this place?

"We are in Verdantia, a gash in the tree I called Astralis that sits in the center of Eldoria."

"So I'm in a gash."

"Yup"

"That's in a giant tree."

"Hmhmm"

"That also sits within something called Eldoria."

"Yup, you got the gist of it."

"And what is Eldoria?"

"Think as the place we were in your main den, and Eldoria as a den within your den that you cannot sense much less enter unless you have enough power to destroy multiple worlds. You do know what a world is right."

"So it's just a different dimension."

Hearing no response, I looked around only to see him having a neutral expression as he stared at me.

"So you know what dimensions are."

"Wait, why do you even know that, and why can you even speak in the first place? Much, less understand what I am saying."

"I don't know. When I was a small pup, I always had general knowledge about the world, the existence of dimensions being one."

"Are you the only one with this ability?"

"I don't know, but I doubt it; after all, I'm not that special."

Nodding his head, he asked, "Well, I know you're starving, so I will ask you this. You can live in Verdantia, or you may live on the surface of Eldoria."

"What's the difference?" I asked.

"Well, Verdantia, though amazing, I might add, is fairly new, as I had just created it minutes before you began to attack me, and being fairly new prey for you has just started to come into being with there being fewer predators to worry about. While on the surface it would be you all by yourself in the wilderness by your lonesome, and with your babies on the way it'll be more difficult than it would already be. Plus the fact Verdantia would be off limits to you, as only with sufficient power can you climb up to it. The mana is also the greatest with Verdantia."

Staring at this being in front of me, I asked a question that has filled my mind ever since I arrived: "Why?"

He tilted his head in confusion. "Why what"

"Why save me, and even offer me to share your home when I almost killed you?"

He looked into my eyes and started laughing. "Hehehahaha, do you really want to know?"

"Yes"

"The reason is simply. Because I want to."

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO?" anger flared up within me. "I almost killed you, and yet you did all of this because you wanted to. Are you stupid?"

Hearing my response, he started to laugh in my face for what felt like minutes.

"STOP LAUGHING"

That seemed to only make it worse as he started to laugh even louder. Suppressing my anger, I decided to wait him out.

5 minutes later

"He laughed for 5 whole minutes; this guy needs some help."

Wiping the tears from his eyes, he looked towards me. "I am the first of my race and probably the only one that would ever exist." My eyes widened with shock, but he chose to ignore me as he continued. "My being is connected to natural order in some way. Don't get me wrong, I don't depend on it, but I feel its pain when it's unordered, if that is the right word. My very goal in life now is to bring back natural order wherever it is unordered; however, as I said, I don't have to do it, but I do. I want to help it; the pain it feels is one that no one but me can experience."

I took a deep breath; this was shocking information.

"Yes, you may see the deadlands and say that's sad, but you will never know the pain it feels. Not like how I would feel it anyway. So I decided I would help it; just like how I decided to help you plus you hold new life within you, it seems unfair to not give them a chance at life."

"So you're the first of your kind."

"Yup"

"And your goal is to help natural order."

"Hmhmm"

"But you don't depend on natural order in the main dimension."

"Correctamundo"

"Is it because of this dimension?"

He nods

"But you wanted to help because of the pain it feels."

"Damn, you're on a roll."

"And just like 'natural order' you decided to help me and my babies because you can."

"Whoa, it's almost like I didn't just explain that to you."

"SHUT UP"

"Hehehehe"

"So you forgave me for almost killing you because you could."

"Yup, and I don't think I have trauma, so it seems my mind is very resilient."

"You know, Wolfie, you're very smart."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing," he chuckled.

"But do you want a name? I can give you one if you don't have one. I keep calling you Wolfie."

"Okay"

"Are you sure?"

"I said yes, now get to naming."

"How about Flopsie?"

"No"

"Peanut"

"What kind of name is that?"

"Fupa"

"Do you want to die?" bloodlust oozing out of me

He suddenly dropped to his knees as he started to beg, "Oh no, I'm sorry. I had no idea that I was in the presence of Fupa the wolf. I bow before your majesty." As he started to bow down on the floor.

"Hahahaha"

"STOP LAUGHING"

10 minutes later

"Lyra"

"Wh…"

"Your name will be Lyra from now on. I hope you like it."

"Acceptable," I said, saying it in my mind to get used to it.

"So, Verdantia or the wilderness?" he asked suddenly.

"I have something very important to do, so I can't stay for much longer."

"Verdantia"

"Alright," he said as he opened his beautiful wings, flying into the air.

"My home is that way," he said as he pointed towards the back of Verdantia. "Find me if you need something."

"Wait, what's your name?" I asked before he left.

"Soren," he smiled before flying towards his home.

Staring at his leaving figure, I sniffed the air. It was finally time to start hunting.
