Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Being Remembered

Three women, one show—the General Affairs Department was bustling with female employees, nearly thirty strong. Surrounded by a chorus of women, Lin Fei would have been lucky to escape with just a scratch, let alone with his life.

"Constantly burying yourselves in work will only hasten your menopause; you all should be thankful that I'm here to spice up your lives." Having fled from the Moongaze Building, Lin Fei glanced back at the twelfth floor, home to the General Affairs Department, with a heart still racing. The women there were no doubt plotting how to catch him and let off some steam.

But the incident wasn't entirely Lin Fei's fault.

Coming to work full of enthusiasm, only to be duped by his own wife and boss—nobody would be pleased in such a situation.

Moreover, Lin Fei was somewhat unwilling to work at Mu Group. For some, sitting in an office might be enjoyable, but for the libertine Lin Fei, it was torture.

Therefore, Lin Fei boldly took the opportunity provided by Xiao Yina's arrival to play hooky. With Mu Shanshan backing him, there was no way he could be fired.

Lin Fei's trickery targeting the women of the General Affairs Department wasn't entirely for personal gain. Mu Shanshan had lured him to the company with a position as a General Affairs Assistant; how could Lin Fei possibly let her have a peaceful work life?

After taking advantage, Lin Fei skipped town, and the mess he left behind naturally fell to Mu Shanshan, the very person who had introduced him to the company.

The moment Lin Fei stepped out of the Moongaze Building, his phone rang. Unsurprisingly, it was his dear wife Mu Shanshan, likely due to Ling Weiwei tattling to her.

Without a second thought, Lin Fei turned his phone off. Through his very actions, Lin Fei made it clear to his wife that he was not a persimmon to be squeezed at will, and that tricking Lin Fei would come at a cost.

...

Zhonghai's First Hospital, fortunately, wasn't too far from the Moongaze Building. Otherwise, Lin Fei, with no money for transportation, wouldn't have known when he'd arrive.

"Lin, I was just about to call you and tell you not to come, yet here you are. Wife, go keep watch outside, and if you see the cops, come in and tell me right away."

As Lin Fei entered Old Wang's hospital room, Old Wang suddenly panicked.

Lin Fei was quite surprised, "Uncle Wang, what's happened? Have the police been here?"

Old Wang's expression tightened Lin Fei's stomach. Although last night, Lin Fei had chosen a small alley without surveillance cameras to discipline Yang Laosan and his crew, Zhonghai wasn't a place like abroad. If the police really put in the effort to investigate, they could uncover some clues. The main issue was that Lin Fei hadn't silenced Yang Laosan's group completely; it wouldn't be difficult for the police to get valuable leads from them.

Although Lin Fei wasn't afraid of Zhonghai's police force and even if they deployed helicopters, he had ways to escape safely, Old Wang's family was a different story. If they were implicated because of this, Lin Fei would always feel guilty.

For someone like Lin Fei, who stood at the pinnacle of the mercenary hierarchy, relationships were far more precious than money.

Old Wang pulled Lin Fei aside and whispered, "That girl whose clothes you tore at my noodle shop, she's actually a cop. She came with a few officers to my hospital room, kept asking about you. I thought she was looking to make trouble for you, so I didn't dare to say much. You need to be very careful these days. The doctor said I'm not in serious condition and I'll be discharged soon, you should leave here quickly."

It was a relief to Lin Fei that the police hadn't picked up on the matter with Yang Laotian and his crew. However, it was somewhat unexpected that the woman whose straps he'd torn, revealing her bra, was really a cop.

For a woman to be a cop with that level of carelessness, Lin Fei felt he might have overestimated the competence of the Zhonghai police force.

Lin Fei peeled an apple for Old Wang and said nonchalantly, "Uncle Wang, it's okay, the incident that day was all a misunderstanding. Even if she saw me, she wouldn't have any reason to arrest me."

Old Wang took the peeled apple from Lin Fei and set it on the bedside cabinet, his voice tinged with urgency, "Lin, you better leave soon. That girl seems to have some serious clout. She said she's going to charge you with assaulting an officer and even detain you."

Lin Fei's brow furrowed; if this woman was really out to cause him trouble, she might indeed find an excuse to detain him. If the police were to find out that Yang Laotian and his men were taken down by him, that would be real trouble.

At that point, he might have to rely on Mu Shanshan to pull some strings to get him out. If it had been before, that wouldn't have been an issue. Although Mu Shanshan was very cold to Lin Fei, she would certainly have someone get him out immediately out of respect for Mu Hong.

Now, though, Lin Fei had just posed a difficult question to Mu Shanshan. If he were to be taken away by the police now, she would definitely bail him out, but he was afraid she would take the opportunity to let him stew in jail for a few extra days as punishment. Knowing Mu Shanshan, there was a high chance she'd do just that.

Nobody wants to get arrested for no reason. Lin Fei used to not mind being detained before, but now he was married and planning to live in Zhonghai. He definitely didn't want to end up on the police's blacklist.

Patting Old Wang's hand, Lin Fei said, "Okay then, I'll be off now. You rest up, Uncle Wang. I've heard that Yang Laotian and his gang encountered some trouble and are all laid up in the hospital, so you should have some peace and quiet when you're discharged."

"Really?" After getting Lin Fei's confirmation, Old Wang's spirits seemed to lift, and he repeatedly muttered about the justice of the heavens.

Seeing Old Wang in this state, Lin Fei felt completely at ease. After chatting for a bit longer, he got up and left Old Wang's hospital room.

Not long after Lin Fei left the First Hospital, a police car drove into the hospital's parking lot, from which Chen Qi, in uniform, emerged.

The woman in the uniform appeared considerably more competent. The tight-fitting police uniform showcased her explosive figure, almost to perfection, with curves in all the right places.

Chen Qi went directly to the hospital's surveillance room and, after identifying herself, she pulled up the surveillance footage of the corridor where Old Wang's bed was located.

When Lin Fei's figure appeared on the monitor, Chen Qi's pretty face instantly turned frosty, her fists clenched tight as she slammed one onto the surveillance counter, "Bastard, you finally show up. Now I'll see where you can run."

Under the frightened gazes of the hospital security, Chen Qi extracted the video material related to Lin Fei. She took it straight back to the police station and handed it off to the criminal investigation department to start pulling Lin Fei's information.

However, for Chen Qi, what Lin Fei had been through didn't matter. All she wanted was to find Lin Fei and vent her anger.

With Lin Fei's name and photo, the scope of Chen Qi's search for him had undoubtedly narrowed a lot.
