The next morning,
Song Guanchao finished cleaning the office and encountered Wu Qiangwei on his way out, not seeing Zeng Li.
Wu Qiangwei set down her bag and sat down.
Song Guanchao brewed a cup of tea and handed it over. He didn't leave but instead said, "Secretary, Xu Xin is Mayor Zheng's person."
Wu Qiangwei was surprised. "Are you sure?"
"Sure."
"I see."
Song Guanchao didn't voice his own opinion; he knew Wu Qiangwei could deduce as much as he had.
Just as he had settled back at his desk outside, there came Xu Xin, dressed sharply in a ladies' suit, her makeup subtle. She approached with a stack of documents.
"Good morning, Secretary Song."
She set the documents down, her eyes revealing a shy reluctance to meet his gaze, perhaps because of the previous night's events.
Song Guanchao's smile was natural. "Good morning, Director Xu."
He picked up the documents and walked back into his office without further conversation.
