Chapter 42 - Going Back

If someone were to ask her why she was acting in this manner, she would never respond because she, too, would fall short of providing an explanation. Despite being older, she was unable to provide an explanation for why she was allowing a girl who was 20 years old and would turn 21 in soon to drag her around. Possible explanations include the fact that she was Leah Hall, her new roommate, or the fact that she possessed a stunning smile that shone brighter than the stars. But Olivia was unable to tell.

Even though they were already crammed into a vehicle with fifteen other people, Olivia was already beginning to feel regret for coming. Including four seats in the backseat, three seats in the second row, three seats in the third row, and four seats in the first row, the cab had a total of fourteen seats. It was possible to split the seats in the second and third rows; one seat was designed to accommodate two individuals, while the other seat was removed and could only accommodate one individual. People who were seated on the single chairs were required to move out of the way when others who were in the back wished to leave. This was done so that those who were leaving could close the chair and make room for others to leave.

Olivia's unfortunate seating arrangement in the second row necessitated frequent exits from the room. During the time that Leah was sitting in the front with the driver, she was counting the taxi price and complained about how unfair it was that she had to collect the money and still pay for it.

Olivia wished that she had phoned Aiden more often because if she had, Leah and she would have been the only ones present. It was possible that Leah was noisy, but the other passengers in the taxi were even noisier, and the driver was listening to the radio.

The engine was reverberating, the woman sitting next to her was talking loudly on the phone, the adolescent kid sitting behind her was playing games on the loudspeaker, there was a girl listening to headphones and singing out loud, and there were other passengers talking loudly. Olivia could feel and hear the engine reverberating.

Unfortunately, her prayers were answered much later, when the taxi had already traveled the city, delivering and collecting people. She prayed and hoped that the horror would finally come to an end. However, Leah did not appear to be experiencing any difficulties; she had a goofy smile on her face. When they finally got outside Leah's residence, she was at last able to breathe. Olivia even had the impression that the taxi seats had left stains on her clothing. She would not have worn a white dress and a white jacket if she had been aware of what she was getting herself into for that particular event.

Given that Leah was wearing the jeans she had worn the day before and one of April's T-shirts, it is quite likely that she was not experiencing any stress. "That's not quite what you're used to, is it?" As they made their way toward her residence, Leah inquired. "I mean, the way you ride in taxis and other modes of transportation, I'm sure you ride alone in one of those yellow cabs that they like to use in American movies." "I am curious," she said.

Throughout my entire life, I have never once taken a cab ride. When Olivia rolled her eyes, Leah came to a complete halt in her tracks.

You mean to tell me that you never?" At that moment, Leah inquired, and Olivia walked by her.

"That I have always had a driver, if anything; the only time I ever used a taxi was when I was in elementary school, and it was because our car had flat tires, and my father had to ask my friend's transport driver to pick me up," she said. Olivia said with a smile that was not very close.

Have you just woken up and discovered that the tires are flat? With a frown on her face, Leah voiced her question. They were getting closer to the gates, and she could feel her heart beating very quickly and forcefully in her chest. However, rather than responding to her inquiry, Olivia brought attention to the fact that they were here. They approached the gate, and one guard muttered something in the other's ear while watching them. "That one busy whispering is Bruce Sheldon; he is one of my brother's friends, so he is definitely going to give us a hard time," the speaker said. With trepidation, Leah stated. Hello, Bruce! Olivia gave her a glance as she spoke in a high-pitched voice, and she made the statement.

However, before opening the gate for them, the guard in authority gave Olivia a dubious glance. He did this before opening the entrance for them. As soon as they were inside, he shut the gate and began evaluating them. However, when Olivia spotted him watching, he swiftly averted his sight until it was directed toward Leah. "Hey, Leah, please know that it is a blessing that you are here, man. It was your brother who suggested that you should return home today. He is currently on his way back from Australia." As Bruce put it.

Leah uttered out loud, "That took a longer amount of time than I had anticipated." "Well, my mother has already informed me, so I'm here to get my clothes because I'm going to be staying at home for a considerable amount of time," she said. Since Leah had lied, the man looked at her with a dubious expression.

"When your brother returns, you will be able to meet up with him and get them." As he suggested, Olivia narrowed her eyes in his direction.

It was not her intention to ask you. Despite the irritation on Bruce's face and the sense of threat in his eyes, Olivia showed no concern for the situation. The individual was tall and had a modest amount of muscle; the scar that was on his face, in addition to the tattoo that was somewhat visible on his neck, should have probably frightened her. There was an air of gangster about him, and his stance, as well as the way he spoke, conveyed a great deal of information.

With a nasty expression on his face, he examined her thoroughly. "And so, who are you?" It was a harsh question.

"Are you certain that you want an answer? Many people who have asked questions in the past have received responses that they did not like." As the man was once again assessing her appearance, Olivia raised a question in a smooth voice, causing doubt to flicker in his eyes. She was wearing a fine dress and jacket, expensive shoes, and a handbag, and she had a stone face with sharp eyes. The combination of these characteristics was not a good one.

Taking a cautious step back, Bruce peered between her and Leah and then took another step back. Taking this as a sign that they should leave, Leah placed her phone away and motioned for Olivia to join her; the sooner they left this place, the better it would be for them.
