April was astonished to see Olivia using her laptop the following morning. Olivia's damp hair and her black gown gave the impression that she had just taken a shower. "Good morning." April waved and announced her presence. Ignoring her, Olivia sipped from her drink and kept her eyes glued to the screen.
With a growl, April turned to go to the kitchen island and get herself some cereal. She grabbed her bowl, sat across from Olivia, and kicked her feet onto the coffee table. From the corner of her eye, Olivia observed her. April wore a top, blue pants, and white socks, covering her entire foot. They sat in silence, Olivia facing April with her laptop propped up on the armrest while she sat on the couch.
April ate her cereal loudly, making sure the spoon clicked against the ceramic bowl, all the while frowning at Olivia's back. "We have to go and see my boss today before I leave." When Olivia ignored her, she finally spoke up, clenching her teeth in frustration. She was not sure why she was putting herself through this much pain. This was likely Olivia's retaliation for her harsh and vindictive criticism the previous evening.
After a lengthy moment of stillness, Olivia remarked, "Let me call Aiden to pick us up." She then closed her laptop.
April put her empty bowl in the sink and responded, "No, we are walking there." April joined in on Olivia's caustic laughter, then paused to glance at Olivia. She shot her a harsh look and replied, "I'm serious."
Olivia moved from the couch to where April was standing. "I am going to dress now, and Aiden is going to take us to your office, OK?" With a tone of finality, Olivia spoke harshly.
This story could finish in two ways: either they keep each other's secrets without pushing each other to the edge, and nobody gets harmed, or they divulge their dirty secrets to the world and hurt David. But Olivia gradually lost her composure, and April failed to set boundaries.
With a sigh, April gave a forceful nod, picked up her purse off the couch, and walked out of the apartment.
Before meeting April and Aiden outside the building, Olivia changed into her clothes. When Olivia emerged from the building, April gave Aiden directions; she didn't look like the personal assistant she was supposed to be. As Aiden unlocked Olivia's door, April clenched her teeth and remained silent. Aiden let her in by the other passenger door, and she sat down next to Olivia. Olivia fiddled with her phone while they sat quietly, hardly looking around or considering their destination.
When their car drew up outside a massive building thirty minutes later, Olivia asked April if they had arrived, which made her roll her eyes. "Yes, Olivia." Aiden opened Olivia's door, and she opened hers. She murmured as she left. Olivia was so focused on her screen that she barely saw the building's name or size. She glanced up briefly to see her destination.
Aiden followed the two women inside, his eyes expanding at the massive building before him. The building was a skyscraper with blue-colored glass. At the top of the building, a big, bold capital letter displayed the company's name.
JONES'S ENTERPRISES.
Aiden never thought he would discover anything like this in Fort Lauderdale, let alone in Miami. He mistakenly believed his boss was the most prominent tycoon, but after witnessing this magnificent edifice, he realized Olivia Miller, if she thought she had no competition, should take a closer look at this building.
"Quit gawking." Olivia stood before the massive double glass door, clenching her teeth. Aiden was surprised when she realized he was following her while she was preoccupied with her phone. After giving the security guard a nod, he raced to follow her inside the building, trailing behind April, who appeared to prefer being anywhere else than here with Olivia.
People of various kinds were moving up and down the crowded floor. Until Olivia and April entered the room with Aiden, everyone appeared to be going about their usual business. It wasn't as if these individuals were unfamiliar with April, given that she was employed there. Although it seemed like everyone was watching them both, as was often the case, Olivia was the one who had everyone's attention.
Olivia looked nothing like a personal assistant because of how she conducted herself and her delicate professional dress; a white pencil skirt and matching jacket that not many people on that level could afford.
When April realized what was happening, she hurried Olivia into the elevator, while security stopped Aiden, preventing him from entering the upper level of the building. Olivia was too preoccupied with April's actions to notice Aiden's departure from them. "Oh my God!" Olivia, how on earth could you wear something like this? "Do you want to ruin your reputation by disclosing your true identity? With a troubled gaze, she questioned.
They both understood that Olivia's reputation was the least of her worries. Since everyone she worked with could now see it, it was like a cold shower in the face for April, who was terrified and insecure because she knew that no matter what she did, she could never measure up to Olivia.
"What do you want from me? You didn't tell me anything." Olivia began, thinking of the perfect way to make April feel better. "I wouldn't be dressed down. I'm not that foolish to ruin my reputation." She grinned, but her smile disappeared as soon as they emerged from the elevator and saw the silver door bearing the name of Mr. N. Jones, the CEO of Jones's Enterprises.
"Of course, you didn't," April remarked cynically. "Look, when we get into Mr. Jones's office, I'll talk." "Look, when we get into Mr. Jones's office, I'll talk," she murmured, and Olivia's feet abruptly stopped as April's words registered in her head, as if her brain cells had finally begun to function.
"What did you just say?" Olivia asked a grave question, her face as pale as a blank page.
April realized she had regained control at that moment. Despite Olivia's impressive attire, only April comprehended the one element that truly captivated Olivia Miller: the name JONES.
