Chapter 136 - THE HEADLESS NUN

ORIGIN: Miramichi region of New Brunswick, Canada.

This legend goes as far back to the 18th century, during the time when French settlers and missionaries were making their presence known in the area.

The story is about a devoted nun named Sister Marie Inconnue, which means "Unknown Sister."

She was part of a religious order dedicated to helping the sick and poor in the remote and rugged wilderness.

According to legend, Sister Marie was traveling along a forested path near French Fort Cove, carrying a precious treasure— some say it was church valuables and others say that it was a hidden stash of gold about to be used to support the struggling mission.

Unfortunately, she was ambushed by thieves who wanted her treasure.

Refusing to tell them where exactly the gold was, she ended up being brutally murdered:

Her head was chopped off from her body and thrown away, while her body was left behind.

It is said that her spirit has never found peace.

To this day, locals and visitors see the ghost of a nun walking about the cove, headless, and still searching—- without pausing, even for a second—- for her lost head and the stolen gold treasure.
