Chapter 1 - Red Door Hotel: Welcome Note

Welcome to the **Red Door Hotel**, a place like no other, designed to meet your every need for rest and respite. No matter where you come from or why you've arrived, the Red Door Hotel promises a truly unique experience.

Here, time flows like a quiet stream, and space shifts in mysterious ways. Yet as long as you follow our rules, your stay will be an unforgettable journey.

---

### **Overview of the Hotel**

The Red Door Hotel is a three-story building steeped in history. Its walls are clad in deep crimson wooden panels, and the corridors are lit by dim, flickering chandeliers, as though they were breathing. In the center of the lobby stands a dark red counter adorned with a heavy, timeworn ledger where you must personally sign in to begin your stay.

The rooms are numbered from 1 to 99, but not all are open to guests. Some doors bear plaques with **red numbers**—these are private areas, and you must not attempt to enter them.

Each floor features a main hallway and several branching corridors, often ending in locked doors or blank walls. The elevator is out of service, and the stairs seem to shift locations, so patience is key in finding your way.

---

### **General Rules for Staying**

1. Before entering your room, knock three times on the door using your right hand. Ensure the knocks are even and clear.

2. If you hear someone calling your name in the hallway, do not respond or turn around. Simply keep walking.

3. Between 10 PM and 6 AM, avoid using the public bathrooms at the end of the corridors. If you must, check the back of the door for a red towel before entering. If there isn't one, use a bathroom on a different floor.

4. The fireplace in the lobby extinguishes itself every evening at 8 PM. Do not attempt to relight it.

5. Should you accidentally break a rule, no matter what happens, close your eyes and remain silent until everything appears normal again.

---

### **Room-Specific Rules**

1. Each room contains an antique grandfather clock that chimes on the hour. When it does, bow your head, close your eyes for 10 seconds, and avoid looking at the clock or elsewhere.

2. A bedside lamp will turn on automatically at night. If you find it has gone out, relight it immediately and ensure you are in bed within 10 minutes.

3. Mirrors in your room can be used normally but must not be looked into between 3:00 AM and 3:15 AM.

4. If you hear someone calling your name or knocking at your door from outside, do not respond.

---

### **Floor-Specific Rules**

1. The carpet on the second floor has prominent dark red patterns. Avoid stepping on these patterns; walk around them instead.

2. The left hallway on the third floor leads to a terrace. Do not linger on the terrace for more than 5 minutes.

3. An old-fashioned wind chime hangs above the staff lounge on the east side of the first floor. If you hear it ring, return to your room immediately and lock the door.

---

### **Special Notes**

1. There are no actual "staff" in the hotel. You may see people in uniforms walking about, but they are not employees. Do not engage with them.

2. A large painting of a red door hangs at the turn of the staircase. Its color changes over time. If it appears bright red, you may approach and admire it. If it turns dark red, keep your distance.

3. Between 11 PM and 1 AM, the grandfather clock in the lobby will stop working. During this time, no one may enter or leave the hotel.

---

### **Checking Out**

When leaving the hotel, go to the front desk and sign out in the ledger. If you find your name has already been crossed out, wait in the lobby and do not attempt to leave on your own.

We hope your stay at the Red Door Hotel is both pleasant and memorable! Remember, everything here exists solely for your arrival, and your departure will be our final gesture of hospitality.
