Chapter 28 - Suspicion

When Hagan awoke, his legs and arms were chained and he was underground. He was slow to regain his senses but once he did, he was filled with fear.

Around him, nine people were gathered, the seven guards from before, the chief, and now a woman who's eyes were swollen and red from crying. Four of the gaurds had their swords drawn and faced at the confined boy and two were standing close to Hagan, the last near the woman.

"Wha- What's going on? Let me out of here!"

"Is that all you have to say, you murderer! I hate you! How could you do that to my baby!? HOW COULD YOU!?"

The chief grabbed the shoulder of the woman who'd just screamed her head out at Hagan and gave her a hug.

"Do not worry Mary, he will be brought to justice."

With that, one of the gaurds lead her away and returned shortly after without her.

"I had hoped it wouldn't have come to this, Hagan. Now if you don't hind, tell me why you killed those two people during the night."

"What are you talking about? I didn't kill anyone last night!"

The chief shook his head and gestured to one of the men, then a sharp pain ignited Hagans left side. Hagan let out a pained scream and glared at the man who'd struck him.

Immediately, Hagan knew what to expect from them. After all, he'd been beaten up plenty of times in the slums for being accused for things he both had and hadn't done.

'This shouldn't be too hard to get out of.'

"This would be much easier if you admit to it. Now tell me, why did you do it."

"I didn't kill them."

This time, the other guard punched him in his temple, opening his eyebrow and dousing his left eye red with blood.

The questions and beating went on for hours before they decided to leave him be. They gave Hagan a small bowl of water and stale bread as sustenance. He's regretted thinking that this would be easy to escape from. After all, the longest he was ever beaten in the slums was just a few minutes, also back then he could lie, now the Gods didn't allow such sins.

By now, Hagan was bloodied and exhausted. He spat a mouthful of blood and reached for the water and bread. His chest, arms, legs, and face were all in excruciating pain. Obviously, the pain from this paled in comparison to harrowing dragon who'd decimated his body, but still, pain is pain and the fact that he knew he'd have to experience it again in a few hours was slowly gnawing away at his mind.

Eventually, Hagan passed out and the dungeon was left silent.

He woke up to the unwelcome sensation of freezing water being dumped on him. Hagan wasn't sure how much he'd slept before his rude awakening. He was determined to try a few things today however.

The first thing he tested test was if he could use shadow teleportation, but since there were heavy chains on him, it wouldn't work. When he used his teleportation, he was only able to bring Keepsakes with him and the clothes he wore, although he needed to do a little more testing, this was his current deduction.

So next he tried to summon the [Sword of Light].
