Chapter 8 - Professor Lane

The group descended a set of stairs and then began down a long hallway, there were tons of large classrooms lining the halls, each full of students learning various different types of information. Near the end of the hall, Allen stopped in front of a door that had a sign above it.

'Lane'

They entered the room and behind a small desk that was cluttered with all kinds of papers sat a man that seemed around thirty years of age. Noticing the guests, he stood up, smiled, and walked over to greet the trio.

"Nice to see you Mr. Allen and Ms. Amara, I hope you've had a good day so far. And who is this? Is he my second student to sign up for the class?" Hagan concentrated on that part and grimaced, 'second student'.

Professor Lane stretched out a hand and offering a handshake to the three of them, Amara didn't bother and just smiled. "So you got two students this year, huh?"

Allen laughed and remarked: "Is that a new record Lane?"

Professor Lane laughed, let out a small sigh and admitted, "No, but it sure is close."

Looking to Hagan, he asked: "So, what made you decide to take one of the few classes that actually matter but are always overlooked, kid?" Hagan turned toward Amara and said "She recommended it."

Professor Lane looked at Amara and smiled. "Why thank you my kind lady."

She smirked then turned around, "I've got work to do, we'll probably meet again soon Hagan so don't forget about me."

He nodded. Professor Lane looked at Hagan, noticing his ragged clothes and the dark circles under his eyes. He then said, "Well, I'm happy to have you in my class Hagan. I hope you get along well with your classmate."

Allen then patted Hagan's shoulder and said, "Follow me, I'll show you to your dorm then you can rest up for tomorrow."

Professor Lane sighed and said, "Class starts at 9 O'clock sharp Hagan, don't be late."

Hagan nodded then walked out, following Allen back through the hall, up the stairs, then up another set of stairs, now there were met with two hallways. The left one was the girls dorms and the right one was the boys dorms. Since Hagan had arrived at the Academy after the year had already started, his room was at the back of the hallway. Along the way, a lot of people were greeting Allen and asking about the pale, black haired boy he had in tow, Allen just said he's a new student and to treat him well.

Hagan mostly looked ahead, only nodding to the few people who decided to say hi to him instead of Allen. A slight frown appeared on his face.

'These people talk too much'

Since Hagan grew up on the streets, savaging for food, his social skill were extremely lackadaisical however, he know how to deceive people since he had to bargain for food more than a few times. He was now facing a new challenge where he could not lie however. A large part of deceit was lying after all.

Reaching the dorm, Allen handed Hagan a key and gave him some small bits of advice as a parting gift. Once he was is the room, Hagan plopped on the bed and closed his eyes.

'What other class am I supposed to take… I'll think about that later, for now let's see what keepsakes and blessing I've received.'
