Chapter 20 - Yggdrasil Interactive, Work on SWTOR

Meeting with Tarken I was soon barraged by paperwork to sign. Several sheets were spoken through as his assistant served us coffee. Hundreds of signatures later, we began discussing any further consultancy that may be needed... I wasn't particularly interested at the current moment, so I simply asked him for a contact in the real estate business.

I would need an office building for my new company. The main part of the entire business would be merchandise sales anyway, so i wasn't going to be too fussy. Cordially he gave me the contact info for several people that were main-stays in his line of business.

Finishing at his agency I drove off back to my rented apartment, before entering once again back into my actual home. Putting on my Pip-boy I watched the system interface radiating outwards as my points had once again gone up... [Points: 3,192,319]

Walking over to the window I brushed my blackish-white hair behind my nape. My face was the same as my past life's, heart-shaped. I had a delicate jawline that tapered down to a fine pointed chin, with wider cheekbones and a modestly wide forehead. High cheekbones bringing out my Nordic heritage. One of my girlfriends in my last life had said that my face was very romantic... As if a face could be romantic...

My physique was always a clencher for her though, being tall and lean as it was and still is. In high school I had been an outcast from the other female students. This was sourced from the fact that I was constantly slim and muscular. I did so much sports and athletics ,thanks to my father's training, that I was always in shape.

Stretching my neck whilst I looked in the window opposite of my desk, there was very little that had changed about me. The only difference so far being my blue-yellow eyes now glowing ever so slightly from the FEV and my once brown hair transforming into a stark black and white. Oh, and of course the tattoo placed firmly on my nape.

'Let's purchase that 'Emma Frost' Business skill and the 'All Trades' skill.'

Disgusted by the mourning of my past life, I decided to move on. These skills would be integral to getting better as a person and to be successful with my company. Plus, having knowledge of all the trades would serve well in life. [Points: 1,192,319

As soon as I spent the points a plethora of experience, knowledge and philosophy was imprinted onto my mind as if by a scapple. From repairing a drain pipe, to creating an electrical board for a house, it was all there. This included the vast knowledge I had in business now. From marketing, management, staffing and legality, I understood almost everything about business in America and several countries around the world. I didn't know who this 'Emma Frost' woman was, but she was certainly very intelligent.

Amidst this inpouring of information came some insights for my company... Specifically regarding to merchandise. For fallout, recreating the pip-man would be an easy way of destroying the hold that I-phones had on the general public. Making them slimmer, more futuristic and internet accessible was integral, but these devices would allow each person to quantify their physical parameters including metaphysical quotients; Intelligence, Luck, Perception. Just with the health monitoring it could be considered a fitness device, let alone the other features it had.

Alongside the Pip-boy could be bobble-heads; non-stat giving, plushies of the monsters/characters... There was so much ability to sell items surrounding the game that even at lower prices, I would rake in a fortune. I would never stoop to price-gouging or debasing my fanbase, but it never hurt to make money if it made people happy also...

With thoughts running rampant in my mind I decided to refocus my efforts on SWTOR. There was a lot of fine tuning that was needed for it and a lot of playing. For this, I decided to test each system by myself...

...

First was the stronghold construction system.

My plan for this was to allow people and guilds to make their own bases, fortresses, satellites, star-bases, world governments and such. For maximum realism in these things there would need to be requirements for building structures and costs. Thus, I included structural blueprints, Governmental blueprints, Space blueprints, Space Ship blueprints and every other form of blueprint as a drop in high level missions and end game content.

Slowly I dispersed these blueprints around on the looting tables, adding a rarity quality to each different blueprints and ensuring that there were hundreds of thousands of different structures, ships and government types.

Following this I decided to start toying with the construction mechanic. The mechanic itself was simple, like most other games in orders. Get materials of certain types, bring them to the structure, then pay a fee to have it built. Only problem with the 'getting' part of this mechanic was that it wasn't simply harvestable, it was trade goods, materials from other worlds or you could conquer a mine/material gathering deposit... With my character's position as the head of the Sith Empire, I simply chose a random planet and decided to summon some rare constructs and put the empire to building these.

Speeding up the game a touch, I was able to understand how the AI Over-brain interpreted these changes and orders, as well as the change to the overall environment of the game... Several new quests had been added to the Republic Side to investigate this planet for evidence of the Sith Empire's activities.

With no players in the game to complete these quests I couldn't see where the story would go from here, but the mere fact it added those quests was proof of it all working.

I wiped all of my activity, reset the entire game and then proceeded to test some early game levelling and choice decision making. In the original version of the game there was light-side decisions and dark-side decisions... These would effect some of the story, but for the most part, was just flavour for your character. In my version though, a small decision to be dark at one point as a Jedi could lead you down a darker path. It could also not. It depended on what the choice was that you made and how you responded.

The AI didn't even need specific lines. It could simply extrapolate the meaning of your words and create a response based off of what the character it was portraying would do. In the early levels there was a complete fluidity in choices and paths, each effecting what your character was perceived as. With each NPC having a personality, some could be offended by a player's existence, whilst another may be completely smitten. All forms of characters were allowed here... A feat that wasn't really possible in the original SWTOR as it was locked into certain main storylines that fit the greater narrative of the game; not a necessarily bad thing... but lacking a lot of substance of what I believed Star Wars to be.

...

My next adventures in SWTOR was inspecting each super powerful NPC in the game. Valkorian, Revan, Malgus, Satele Shan, Vitiate, Darth Nox, Darth Nihilus, Vaylin and finally Exar Khun. All of them were super intelligent when I spoke to them and treated my character as it was meant to be by them. Satele Shan with steely resolve and chagrin for my power in the dark side. Vitiate with the tone of an elder to a youngling. Malgus that of a cautious co-worker who was willing to destroy me at any moment. Valkorian and Vaylin instantly tried killing my character as I appeared amongst their fleet; an apt response really. Darth Nihilus and Nox were rather neutral, curious as to why I sought them out. Revan was disgusted by what my character represented and fought me in a 1v1 lightsaber battle... Which was more difficult than I thought it would be as the AI was taking real life fighting styles and adapting them to the core essence of the Star Wars lightsaber styles.

Finally, I checked space combat, politics, economy, crime and other major elements of SWTOR. They were all ready, all superbly refined by the AI. The said AI that would continue to grow even more as players became more and more exposed to it and it to them.

Everything was ready. All expansion storylines and content was added in addition to my changes. It was ready for a massive release. This time however, I planned to leverage my new company.

"Make a massive advertising campaign across Twitch and the Internet. Bring in some streamers to do some early gameplay of SWTOR and stream whilst doing it..." That same streaming feature from Fallout being present in SWTOR as a button on a wrist pad.

"Then, I can also introduce the company as the owner of Fallout and therefor gain more of a following..."

My plans were slowly formulating, my goals becoming more grand in gaming. I didn't only want to make awesome games... I wanted to make sure that every gamer knew that they deserved better games. To know pay-to-win was not needed... To know that gambling was scummy... To know that DLC was just a scam intended to make you pay more money for content they should have released originally. These were my goals, and, by the power of my fucking system and my nerdiness, I will accomplish them!

...

Meanwhile... In Shield Head Quarters...

"Director! DIRECTOR...!" Natasha ran into the head office of Fury panting, her hand holding a tablet as her red hair tumbled around her shoulders.

"What is it...? Is it Stark again!? I swear I'll rip the motherf-"

"No director! It has to do with the God Empress, from Fallout."

Fury stood up and leaned forwards, his singular visible eye training in on his top agent.

"What about her!?"

"Our informants in the IRS and American Government found out about the patent for Fallout belonging to some woman. We couldn't find anything, not even a name for this woman... We still don't know her actual name, however, there was just a company formed, named Yggdrasil Interactive, that took claim to the patent and was lawfully accepted by the IRS as the owner, and the Copyright Judicial arm of the government."

"So you are saying that this God Empress could be the owner of this company?"

"Yes!"

Fury straightened his posture as he put his arms behind his back and looked off into space for a little. The atmosphere turned awkward for a few minutes in cost of his thinking. Finally, however, he broke his thoughts and sat down, quickly starting to pull up multiple browsers and sheets.

"Black Widow, I am tasking you with an infiltration mission of this Yggdrasil Interactive. You are to enter the first batch of employee hiring and attempt to get high up in the company. Support will be given to you, Shield Units 1, 2 and 3 will be at your direction for this."

"Understood Director. Is my mission to steal information, become friends, or seduce?"

He paused for a moment. Shaking his head soon after and pulling up more screens.

"Intention is not to steal or hurt, currently. Your main mission, currently, is to find out the name of this God Empress or owner of the company. Anything from there is your prerogative, but violence and theft is last resort. Before we understand what technology is in this person's hands, it is foolish to go in guns blazing."

Black Widow; Natasha, nodded and took a file from Fury that had just been printed out. An outline of the mission, the name of the mission and the target.

#Operation: Loki's Scour#

"That's a very dramatic name sir..."

"Figured the company is named Yggdrasil, so I bet you'd be classified as a Loki... Sneaky and deceptive in a way."

Rolling her eyes she took the file and began walking out of the room, Fury letting her go as he received a call over his computer.

"Oh great...! It's this arrogant motherfucker..."

"It's nice to see you again too, Fury... Or do you prefer Director?"

"What do you want Stark?"

"Well, you see..."
