Carsyn David's POV
Here I am, sitting in class, completely zoned out and still thinking about him.
Can you imagine someone who's more than perfect? Someone who looks handsome without even trying? He even looks good when he's angry. But wait—have I ever seen Mr. Finley smile?
Now I'm wondering, does he smile at his wife? And if he does, how does it look? Delicious? Charming? Cute? Ugly? Nah, ugly doesn't fit anywhere when it comes to Mr. Finley.
But seriously, when does he smile? During... sex? Oh my God, what am I even thinking?
Leo's sharp glare cuts through my thoughts. He looks like he's ready to kick me out of this galaxy.
I grab his arm and give him my best puppy-dog eyes. In response, he knocks me on the head with his knuckles.
"Ahh, that hurts!" I protest.
"You deserve it," he snaps.
Okay, fine, maybe he's mad because he doesn't like Mr. Finley. For some reason, he's just as overprotective as my brother, constantly warning me to stay away from my never-becoming husband.
But seriously, why can't these boys just let me have my harmless crush in peace?
I look at Leo, who's gearing up for one of his famous Thursday lectures, and pull his hair to mess it up. "What did I do to deserve this?" I ask dramatically.
He fixes his hair and retaliates by pulling mine. "You insulted me, your best friend, for that Mr. Tinley!"
My eyes widen. "Mr. Tinley?" Did he just butcher Mr. Finley's name? Are you serious?
Someone, please hold me back, because I swear I'm about to transform into Wonder Woman and take this nerd down.
Before I can retaliate, Leo twists my arm behind my back. "Who are you calling nerdy?" he growls.
Okay, ouch. I might've gone too far, but what's the point of being best friends if I can't tease him?
"Alright, alright," I say, trying to backpedal. "I'm sorry. Let's not act like junior-grade kids; everyone's watching and laughing at us."
Leo glances around the classroom, his expression turning deadly serious. "No one dares," he declares, scanning the room.
That one stray strand of hair falls across his forehead, making him look... sexy? Ugh, focus, Carsyn!
I pull out my ultimate weapon—the teary puppy eyes—and whisper dramatically, "I'm sorry."
It works like a charm. He lets me go, and I grab a book from my bag, sprinting toward the door. Before leaving, I turn back and yell, "YOU'RE A NERD!" while sticking my tongue out and making silly ears with my hands.
Leo stands up, his face a mix of annoyance and determination, and starts chasing me.
I'm running, looking over my shoulder to see how close he's getting, when—BAM! I collide with what feels like a brick wall.
Except, it's not a wall.
I look up to see none other than Mr. Finley.
Oh no.
I stumble dramatically, hoping he'll catch me like some dashing hero and whisper something romantic.
But no. Instead, I fall flat on my butt. My perfectly round behind? Smashed into a pancake. Why can't handsome people be gentlemen?
As I sit there in shock, I mutter, "What the f—"
Mr. Finley raises an eyebrow. "Miss David, what the F?"
I smile nervously. "What the... fall?"
At least now he'll offer me a hand to help me up, right? Wrong. He just smirks. Again.
This is the second time today he's smirked at me, and while I usually hate being smirked at, when it's him, my heart blooms like a freaking flower.
But seriously, why isn't he helping me up?
Leo swoops in, ruining my moment yet again, and helps me stand.
I glare at him before turning back to Mr. Finley. "I'm sorry, Mr. Finley. I'll be more careful next time."
Mr. Finley opens his mouth, and for a second, I think he's about to forgive me and say something sweet.
But no. Instead, he drops a verbal nuke: "Miss David, next time don't pretend to fall. It'll only cause you pain."
With that, he turns and heads toward his office.
Leo grabs my arm, trying to pull me back to class, but I'm nothing if not shameless and stubborn.
"Mr. Finley!" I call out. "I need help understanding something about the heart!"
He stops, turns, and looks at me with those piercing eyes. "Come to my office," he says before walking away.
And just like that, I have another chance to spend time with him. Victory!
