Olivia Wellington lounged on her bed, lazily scrolling through her phone. Her best friend Ella was sprawled out next to her, chatting about the latest guy Olivia had met at a party. Suddenly, Ella squealed and jumped off the bed, her dark hair bouncing around her shoulders.
"Olivia, what the heck is wrong with you? Did we run out of champagne?" Olivia joked.
"No, you dork! Gigi got a new car! It's all over Instagram!" Ella exclaimed, thrusting her phone in Olivia's face.
Olivia's eyes widened. "Oh my God, really? What kind of car?"
"It's a brand new Ferrari. Red, of course," Ella said with a satisfied smile.
Olivia rolled her eyes. "Typical Gigi. Always has to show off. I mean, a Ferrari? Please. It's not like she even needs a car in New York City."Ella scoffed,
"You're such a hater, Olivia! Can't you just be happy for Gigi? She's like your sister, even if she's technically your step-sister."
Olivia rolled her eyes, "How many times do I have to tell you, she's not my sister! She's my step-sister. And that's a big difference. My dad remarried when I was in high school, and Gigi just swooped in like she owned the place. She's always trying to upstage me."
"Well, I think it's cool," Ella said, climbing back onto the bed and grabbing her phone. "Gigi's living the life we can only dream about. I'm gonna leave a 'congrats' comment under her post."
Olivia, annoyed, snatched the phone from Ella. "Don't you dare! Why are you always kissing Gigi's butt? It's like you're her biggest fan or something."
Ella rolled her eyes. "I'm just being nice. Is it really that hard for you to be nice to Gigi?
"Yes, it is!" Olivia replied, crossing her arms. "Gigi's not my friend. She's my competition. And if she thinks she can waltz in here and steal my thunder, she's got another thing coming. She might have Dad wrapped around her little finger, but I'm not gonna let her get away with it. Not this time."
Ella sighed, "You know, Gigi's not as bad as you make her out to be. Maybe if you actually tried being nice to her, you'd see that."
Olivia glared at Ella. "Well, if you're gonna keep defending Gigi, then you can either shut up or get out of my room."
Ella rolled her eyes and put her hand to her lips, zipping them shut in a mocking gesture. "Fine, I won't say another word about Gigi. But mark my words, Olivia, you're making a big mistake."
Alex, Olivia's younger brother, burst through the door with his phone in hand and a shocked expression on his face.
"Guys, you won't believe it! Gigi just got a new car. It's...it's...it's a Lamborghini!" Alex exclaimed, his voice trembling with excitement.
"I thought you said it was a Ferrari!" Olivia shot at Ella, her eyes narrowing into slits.
Ella threw her hands up in defense. "I'm no expert on cars. They all look the same to me! Besides, you know how Gigi is. It was probably one of those flashy cars that costs more than my entire college tuition."
Alex turned to his sister, puzzled. "What's the big deal, Olivia? You're acting like Gigi stole your favorite dress or something. It's just a car. A really expensive, really cool car, but just a car."
Olivia scoffed, then snatched up her own phone. With a few swift swipes, she opened Instagram and was immediately bombarded with notifications. People were commenting on her latest post—a perfectly posed selfie in front of her brand new handbag collection—but not about her outfit.
"Check it out," she said, turning the phone to face Ella and Alex. "Everyone's freaking out about Gigi's car. And not one person even mentioned my handbags. It's like I don't even exist."
Ella peered at the screen, shaking her head.she tried to contain a chuckle, but Olivia's sharp ears picked up the faint sound.
"What was that?" Olivia asked, her glare intense enough to melt metal.
Ella raised her hands in mock surrender. "Nothing, nothing. It's just...I mean, come on. Your little sister gets a flashy car and you're throwing a fit. It's kind of funny."
Olivia's jaw clenched. "It's not funny. It's embarrassing. I'm supposed to be the star of this family, not Gigi. She's just...a wannabe."
Alex, sensing the tension rising in the room, sighed and stood up. "Well, I'm outta here. If you two start World War III in the house, don't blame me. I'm going to the park."
"Fine," Olivia said, dismissing her brother with a wave of her hand. "Just stay out of our way."
As Alex left, the door clicked shut behind him, leaving Olivia and Ella alone in the room. The silence was tense, each waiting for the other to make the first move.
Ella let out a light chuckle, hoping to diffuse the tension in the room. "Hey, how about we talk about the guy you met at the club last night? You seemed pretty smitten."
Olivia gave her a coy smile and bit her lip playfully. "Oh, you mean Nicholas Charlton? Yeah, I'd rather talk about him."
Ella's eyes went wide, stunned by Olivia's confession. "Are you serious? Nicholas Charlton? Gigi's fiancé?!"
"Oh, he is?" Olivia asked, feigning innocence. "I had no idea."
Ella couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Are you telling me you flirted with Gigi's fiancé?
"Whoa, hold on," Olivia said, holding up her hands in mock surrender. "I didn't flirt with him. I just saw him at the club. He was there with some friends, and he didn't even notice me. But I noticed him. He's hot."
Ella's expression softened slightly, but she still looked skeptical. "Olivia, you're playing with fire. You need to stay away from Nicholas Charlton. Besides, Gigi would kill you if she found out."
Olivia scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh please. Like that 24-year-old brat has anything on me.
