The idea of being possessed by another soul was truly beyond belief, but with the situation now at hand, Long Kun had no choice but to accept it. Fortunately, he was the type of person who adapted easily to whatever circumstances life presented. What he couldn't understand, however, was why, when others encountered strange phenomena, they were usually chosen to host the soul of a young master, but here he was, on the other side of the coin—being the one possessed. Not only did he have to share his body with another soul, but he was also unjustly blamed for things he had no control over, and now he was being forced to pay for it with his hard-earned money.
In fact, Luo An was even more aggrieved. He was supposed to be reborn into another person's body, continuing his own life and ambitions. To facilitate this rebirth, a tremendous amount of money and effort had been expended. Yet, inexplicably, he had ended up in the body of an ordinary high school student.
He had considered overtaking Long Kun's body, as all humans are inherently selfish, and he didn't want to die. Besides, there was so much he still needed to do. However, with his already weakened soul, he was no match for Long Kun's robust vitality. The battle ended in complete defeat, draining him of the last of his energy. After staying in Long Kun's body for a while, his soul grew weaker and weaker, and he had to accept his fate.
During the English exam a couple of days ago, it was the first time he had managed to take control of Long Kun's body, as Long Kun had been utterly exhausted. Today, it was again because Long Kun was both mentally and physically drained, allowing Luo An to briefly take over his consciousness—though it lasted only for a short while.
Each had their own tragic tale. Long Kun's life, a monotonous cycle of school and work, left him with few real friends, while Luo An, having been silent for so long, felt suffocated. The two souls spent the night talking to each other.
Long Kun's life was extraordinarily dull. Outside of eating, sleeping, and attending school, there was little else. In stark contrast, Luo An's life was one Long Kun had never even dreamed of—a world he could never have imagined. Long Kun had always believed that driving a bulletproof car, using a British butler, and living in a house with a swimming pool were the hallmarks of nobility. But as Luo An spoke, Long Kun gradually became aware of a world far beyond what he knew. True aristocrats, as Luo An described them, didn't just ride in cars—they had people to drive them. They piloted their own planes and spent their leisure time fishing for salmon in Alaska or hunting on the African savannah. If they were bored, they might even breed purebred horses.
Luo An's stories, recounted over the course of the entire night, were so fantastical that Long Kun could barely close his mouth. Everything Luo An said sounded like tales from another world, tales that were almost too much to believe.
By the time school began at 8 AM, Long Kun, his eyes heavy with dark circles, dragged himself into the classroom. He hadn't wanted to come, especially since he hadn't slept a wink the night before due to exhaustion. But he knew that today he would face a confrontation he couldn't avoid.
As he entered the classroom, all eyes immediately fixed on him. At the front of the class stood Tang Keyu, the class monitor, collecting assignments. Dressed in a snow-white dress, her youthful face, though serious, still retained an air of innocence. When she saw Long Kun enter, she gave him a cold glance before putting down the stack of papers and speaking sternly, "Long Kun, you're late."
Long Kun gave a dry laugh. Wasn't being late a regular occurrence for him?
Seeing he didn't respond, Tang Keyu frowned slightly, walked to the door, and said, "Come with me. Teacher Huang wants to see you in his office."
A sense of foreboding washed over Long Kun as he heard the words. Of course, it was happening now. He obediently followed Tang Keyu, walking toward the office.
As he looked at her slender, graceful back, his heart skipped a beat. Her legs, smooth and pale, seemed as delicate as lotus stems. Though he didn't yet have the fortune to touch them, the sight was enough to tempt him. After all, he had grown up without ever speaking much to a girl, so this sight was nothing short of captivating.
Just as Long Kun's thoughts began to stray, the familiar voice of Luo An echoed in his mind, "You've never seen a girl before, huh? Look at that silly expression on your face—your eyes are practically glued to her."
Startled, Long Kun snapped back to reality. He was irritated by Luo An's interruptions and sneering comments. Gritting his teeth, he rolled his eyes. The two of them had spent the entire night talking, and though they hadn't become best friends, their relationship had certainly grown more familiar.
Long Kun, like most men, had a certain bashful side to him, but it rarely had a chance to show. With no one to hide his feelings from now, he decided not to pretend anymore. Just then, however, Tang Keyu stopped and turned around, catching Long Kun's strange expression. She looked puzzled, wondering how the normally quiet, unremarkable student had suddenly become so odd.
Caught by her inquisitive gaze, Long Kun quickly wiped away his awkward expression and returned to his usual serious demeanor, as though the strange look hadn't been his at all. He felt nervous inside, but fortunately, Tang Keyu quickly turned her gaze back and spoke, "Wang Jun's parents are here, and Chen Yong is inside fanning the flames. Be careful when you go in."
Long Kun grimaced. This was going to be troublesome. But then he remembered that he had nothing to lose. What was there to be afraid of? His personality was such that, even when faced with difficult situations, he would shrug them off with an attitude akin to the legendary figure Ah Q. It was this mindset that had helped him survive until now, without the support of either parent.
Having resolved his own inner turmoil, Long Kun's focus shifted. Had Tang Keyu been concerned about him? He felt a strange sense of happiness. Looking at her, he felt a warmth spreading in his chest. He wasn't good at hiding his emotions, and his gaze grew more intense. This made Tang Keyu blush, and she inwardly muttered, He may look so honest, but he's just another little rascal after all. She quickly turned her face and walked ahead, ignoring him.
Luo An, witnessing this display, was utterly speechless. How could a person like Long Kun, stuck in the body of such an admirable young man, act so clueless? Luo An, the well-known young master, had no trouble with women at all. He had been inside Long Kun's body for over a week, and had come to know that Tang Keyu was the object of his secret admiration. Luo An couldn't help but feel a certain appreciation for her beauty, especially her pure and innocent charm. Though she was a bit young, there was no denying her potential. If Long Kun could somehow win her over, Luo An would wholeheartedly support him. But, sadly, Long Kun was still too naive for this task—Luo An thought that he would probably have to intervene personally to help him out.
As they neared the office, Long Kun heard shouting from inside. A woman's hysterical voice rang out, "Tell that little brat to come out! I'll kill him, my poor Jun'er!"
Then came a man's voice, trying to calm her down, "Don't shout. Let's figure out what happened first."
The woman seemed completely out of control: "What's there to figure out? My son's still unconscious. Xiao Yong already said it was that kid Long Kun who did it!"
A voice that Long Kun instantly recognized as Chen Yong's cut through the tension. "Auntie, it's really that Long Kun kid. Yesterday, didn't he just refuse to let Wang Jun cheat, and then out of nowhere, he went over and beat him up? The whole class saw it."
"Uncle Wang, it really was that kid Long Kun," Chen Yong continued, "He hasn't even come to school this morning, probably scared to face it. But don't worry, he won't escape. Wang Jun's my brother, and I'll make sure he pays."
Long Kun couldn't help but feel disgusted as he listened to Chen Yong's voice. Of course, it was that troublesome guy, always stirring things up.
Then the voice of the homeroom teacher, Huang, came in, his usually foul temper seemingly dampened by Wang Jun's mother's fierce attitude. "Don't worry, I've already sent someone to find Long Kun, but we can't get through to his home phone."
Long Kun smiled bitterly. His phone had been out of service for ages. They could try calling his house, but they wouldn't reach anyone. Although he did have a mobile, it was for work purposes, and no one at school knew about it.
As he reached for the door handle, a small hand suddenly grabbed the edge of his shirt. He turned to see Tang Keyu, her eyes filled with concern. "Maybe you shouldn't go in."
Long Kun smiled wryly, his heart warming at her genuine concern. After all, it had been a long time since anyone had cared about him. He was afraid, but some things couldn't be avoided. He had learned that after losing the closest people in his life. He smiled at Tang Keyu, trying to
reassure her, "I have to go in. I can't avoid this. It needs to be dealt with. Besides, I did this, so I need to face the consequences."
With that, Long Kun gently freed her hand from his shirt and pushed open the door.
Tang Keyu stood frozen at the doorway, her mind racing. This Long Kun... he's not like the one I knew before.
