Kara! Kara!" I was jolted awake by my aunt's shrill voice. I quickly sprang out of bed, my heart racing with fear. I knew I was in for a long day of torment.

"My name is Kara Stephen," I thought to myself, trying to muster some courage. "I'm 18 years old, the only daughter of the wealthy Mr. and Mrs. Stephen." Memories of my parents flooded my mind. We had lived in a beautiful home, surrounded by love and luxury. But that was before they died in a tragic car accident.

After their death, my life took a drastic turn. My uncles swooped in, taking control of my parents' wealth and assets. I was left with no choice but to move in with one of my uncles, Mr. Willson, and his family. His wife, my aunt, was a cruel and heartless woman who took great pleasure in making my life miserable.

"Aunt?" I called out, trying to sound brave.

"Get up, you lazy girl!" she barked. "You're still sleeping at this hour? Get out of my sight and start your chores!" Her words were followed by a stinging slap on my cheek.

I held my cheek, trying to hold back tears. This wasn't the first time she had hit me, but the pain still felt like a fresh wound. I took a deep breath and ran downstairs to start my chores.

As I cooked breakfast in the kitchen, the silence was oppressive. The clock on the wall read 3:00 AM. I was the only one awake, and the stillness was eerie.

Just as I finished cooking, I heard a creaking noise coming from the store room. At first, I thought it was just the old house settling, but then I heard it again, louder this time. I felt a shiver run down my spine.

I tried to brush it off, but the creaking continued. I knew I had to investigate. I slowly made my way to the store room, my heart pounding in my chest.

As I approached the door, I heard the creaking again. This time, it sounded like someone was trying to get my attention. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should open the door.

But my curiosity got the better of me. I slowly turned the handle and pushed the door open. The room was dark, and I fumbled for the light switch.

As the lights flickered on, I saw a figure standing in front of me. My heart skipped a beat as I froze, unsure of what to do next.
