Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Married?!

Olivia

A knock sounded on my door.

"Olivia, come down for breakfast." My elder brother, Martin said.

After he said his piece, he went downstairs.

A warm feeling washed through my body.

My brother here because my parents wanted me to come downstairs for breakfast. It was a rare phenomenon.

All these years, I was the one that had to rush downstairs to meet up with them.

There was a specific time we have breakfast in my house. If I missed the time, I would dine alone.

They would not send anyone to call me specially like today.

Today would be a memorable day, I could feel it.

I quickly freshened up and I bolted down the stairs in an hurry.

I saw my whole family seated at the dining table.

My mother, my father, my brother and my twin sister, Orla.

We are twins but our lifestyles was as different as heaven and hell.

She was the angel above while I was the mud beneath her feet.

My mother had a stern look on her face but I ignored it. My mother was rarely happy with me.

Her smiles and happiness was reserved for Orla and my brother.

I can not wipe of the sin of nearly killing her at birth. That was one of my many sins.

I took a seat quietly with a small smile on my lips.

Sometimes, I use to think of myself as a mistake. I use to feel like the family would be perfect without my existence.

Still, I was thankful that I was born. I was too greedy.

I wanted my family to like me and I have done everything within my power to please them.

As soon as I sat down, my mother's nose scrunched up and she glared at me.

She was dissatisfied with something again. My heart went to my throat.

"Olivia, how many times would I tell you? The perfume you spray on your body makes Orla uncomfortable." My mother chided me with a frown.

My smile stiffened.

I looked at my twin.

Her eyes was red and she looked like she was bullied.

Her blonde hair that was so pale it was almost white burned my eyes.

She didn't say anything to defend me.

My mother had mentioned the issue of the perfume to me before. I had gotten carried away with the thought of looking good and smelling good.

I had forgotten my mother's warnings.

I moved two chairs away from my younger sister, Orla.

Orla's face softened when I moved away.

I stared at my family.

They truly looked like a family without me now.

These kinds of words had been the norm for me since I was little.

Orla can not do any wrong thing. I was always the troublemaker.

I was always the one that carries the blame. I was always the one that had to give in. I was the one to make amends.

I loved my family. I really do.

Still, some memories can't help but burn itself into my mind like a haunting curse.

The neglect, the blame and the sadness. Everything came rushing back.

It was a crime to like something Orla takes any fancy too.

My possessions would cease to be mine once Orla shows interest in it.

I loved my sister. I really do but at times, I hated her.

She was like the bane of my whole existence.

Right now, I was living in a tiny room that had been converted into my bedroom after Orla told my parents how great it would be if my original and former bedroom became her walk-in closet.

That very day, I was told to move out in coercive terms.

Sometimes, I wonder if things would be different if I was the only girl that my mother birthed. Then, she would not dare to treat me like this.

"Kyle is going to join us for breakfast. We might have to start eating later than our usual schedule." My father, Jones said to me.

His words jolted me out of my spiralling thoughts.

There wasn't any hints of surprise in the eyes of my mother, sister and brother.

I was the only one without any knowledge of this information.

I was happy though.

Kyle was coming.

This was good news.

Kyle was my light.

Our family, the Thompsons and his family, the Romans had a marriage agreement before I and Orla was born.

My mother thought she would only give birth to one girl. Alas, she gave birthed to twins.

Orla did not express interest in Kyle and I was the firstborn so the arranged marriage fell on my head.

What made everything more lovely is the fact that Kyle was my mate. The mate bond between us showed itself on my eighteenth birthday.

It was the best day of my life. Kyle was 20 years old then and he had already given up on finding his mate. He was willing to honor the arranged marriage between our families.

Kyle made me feel loved and seen.

I wasn't the dodder flower stuck on the wall. I wasn't that invisible girl in the Thompson family. I felt special.

With Kyle, I didn't have to feel like my existence was a mistake or a freak of nature.

He made everything easier to endure.

I smiled happily.

My mother looked at me with a strange gaze. Her gaze made me uncomfortable.

It held intentions I didn't know of.

Besides, I don't think I want to know.

I felt like I saw a tiny bit of pity mixed with smugness in her gaze.

"Welcome." The butler greeted someone.

We all looked up.

Kyle walked in. He came in all his glory.

Kyle was handsome and charismatic.

He had dark hair and grey eyes. His body was cloaked with the aura of power.

He was in Alpha of his pack and he ran a company that brought billions regularly. He was a diamond bachelor.

I was the object of envy for managing to snag Kyle as my mate and partner.

Most of the packs had assimilated into the human world. Pack members still lived together in an enclosed space that was similar to a community or estate.

Kyle was the alpha of Moonclaw pack.

My family had smiles on their faces as Kyle entered the dining room. My mother pointed at a seat and Kyle sat down.

He was directly beside Orla.

I don't know why that action made me feel uncomfortable. I attributed it to my happiness and nervousness.

Sometimes, I feel like Kyle was too good for me. He was kind, loving and everything positive.

On the other hand, I did not have anything to offer.

My brother was set to inherit my parents company and Orla was the family's princess. I was just there.

I took online Luna classes. I was not about to disgrace Kyle in the future. I had to make everyone know that we were a good fit for each other.

Orla's face brightened as she flashed a smile.

Kyle returned her gesture. His smile caused my breath to hitch.

My mother looked at me with that previous gaze again and I started to fidget.

'Olivia, I don't feel good.' My wolf, Celina said.

I wasn't feeling comfortable too.

The cook serves Kyle a plate of food.

Something came over me.

I poured wine into the empty glass beside Kyle's plate. I did not give the cook the chance to react.

I did not let her do it.

Kyle had always pampered me. He always told me that he was there to take care of me, not the other way around.

When we go out eat, he would serve my food and my drinks.

Unfortunately, the rates of our outings had decreased drastically these few months. I barely see Kyle visit me nowadays.

Kyle furrowed his brows as he subtly pushed the glass of wine away from him.

Orla's smile dropped and the atmosphere soured.

I looked around.

What was going on?

My mother looked at me like I had committed a great sin. My father was frowning and my brother had an unknown smile on his lips.

Orla looked like she was about to cry.

I felt like I had become a sinner suddenly.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing. Don't do that in the future." Kyle warned with his face stern.

His words hurt a little bit I understood. This was not the first time Kyle had said something like this.

He preferred to do the honors.

"Let's eat." My father said and everybody began eating their meal.

A minute passed.

Nobody spoke during that brief minute.

My father looked at me.

"Olivia. I have something to say to you." He said.

I did not realize that trouble was on the horizon.

I dropped my cutlery and returned his gaze.

"Father, go ahead." I replied.

He nodded in acknowledgement.

"Your sister and Kyle are going to get married." He dropped the bombshell.
