Chapter 5 - Are You Still Addicted To Perfunctory Behavior?

Are you still addicted to perfunctory behavior?

"I lost my phone," Lilly said with great regret.

"So..." Ethan put his hands on the table, fingertips touching each other, waited for a while, and suddenly asked, "What's my number?"

Lilly blurted out a string of numbers that she knew so well that she would answer reflexively when someone asked her without even thinking.

Lost again. Lilly stared at the floor in agony, wanting to dig a hole and bury herself. Why can't she win against him even once?

"Miss Johnson, are you going to say that you accidentally lost your memory when you returned to Reading?" he curled his lips in mockery.

"How do you know?" Lilly followed the pole, her expression as serious as it could be, "It was a car accident, it was serious."

He suddenly stood up, his chest heaving violently, and his dark and deep eyes seemed to explode with creepy sparks. He grabbed her arm, pulled her to the door, and threw her out without saying a word.

"Wait, wait!" Lilly hurriedly blocked the door that was about to close again, and said in a panic, "Ethan, listen to me--"

"What?! Are you still addicted to perfunctory?" he interrupted her with a cold voice, grabbed her neck with his big hand, and took advantage of his height and physique to lift her and throw her to the ground outside the door.

He was angry! She had never seen him so angry before. Didn't he just leave without saying goodbye? You have someone else, so what does it matter whether I am here or not? As for holding on to this point!

Lilly was getting more and more angry, and she got up from the ground and yelled directly, "Ethan White! Can you be reasonable?"

He ignored her scolding and pulled the door handle to close the door.

Lilly once again blocked the door with her body, and anger surged into her head, "It was wrong for me to leave without saying goodbye, and you don't need to be so angry! Can't I apologize to you, I really have something important to ask you..."

"Who said I was angry?" he interrupted her, his thin lips tightly pursed, his eyes were cold and piercing, staring at her, and said word by word, "I hate you."

Lilly stayed where she was, her whole body was cold under his gaze, and her voice was trembling, "Why..." She never thought that he would hate her one day.

She originally thought that even if she gave up liking him, if they met again, they could still be friends But now he was unwilling to give her this opportunity.

He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her out of the office forcefully.

"I'm telling you, Lilly, if you want me to save your grandmother's company, save your grandmother-- Save the person who made you leave me without mercy," he paused, and the next words were cold and mean, "Don't even think about it!"

After saying that, the door of the president's office finally slammed and closed completely.

Lilly was so angry that she refused to beg him anymore. She went downstairs and walked out of the Wanying Building.

But before she got far, her cell phone rang. It was from her aunt again.

"Hello, aunt." Lilly pressed the answer button resignedly.

"How is it? Lilly, did you see anyone?" The voice of her aunt's inquiry came immediately from the other end of the phone.

"I saw it." Lilly bit her lip and looked at the closed door of Wanying Building, "But he refused to help. I'm sorry, Auntie, I tried my best."

The person on the phone was silent for a while, and sighed faintly, "Lilly, you can't just take it seriously!"

"I didn't take it seriously." Lilly was anxious, "My relationship with him is not that good, he refused to help, I can't do anything!"

"Not very good relationship?" her tone suddenly became very dissatisfied, "Lilly, when you just came back, Auntie sent someone to check your situation in Provence. I won't hide it from you. In those materials, you and he are more than just a professor and student, right?"

Hearing this, Lilly frowned. Although they had only been together for a year, she saw with her own eyes that her auntie caught her uncle cheating. The means were extremely powerful, and she didn't know where she found someone to investigate the matter clearly, and finally used those pieces of evidence to scrape a layer of skin off her uncle.

Now Emmy's words mean that she is fully confident, but when she and he were in Provence, although their relationship was not limited to teacher and student, it was not as ambiguous as Emmy thought.

She pursued Ethan, but she didn't get a bite of meat!

"Lilly, think of a way," Emmy said, picking up a photo from a pile of photos on the coffee table. It showed a picture of a man with a cold temperament leaning over to kiss a girl who was sleeping with a book against a tree.

The girl was her little niece, and the man was the only man who could lead their family out of the fire at present – Ethan White.

"Aunt, my relationship with him is just a little better than that of an ordinary teacher and student." Lilly struggled for a long time but still refused. She didn't want to face him who said he hated her.

"Lilly! Do you want to kill your grandma?" Emmy's voice was full of anger. "Now your grandma's condition has finally stabilized. I spent a lot of effort to suppress the withdrawal of Liney's investment, but it can't be concealed for much longer. If you can't solve it before she finds out... Lilly, she really can't be stimulated anymore now, you know!"

"I know, Auntie, I... will try again." Lilly felt sour in her heart and finally stopped insisting.

After she hung up the phone, she wanted to enter the Wanying Building again but was stopped by the security guard at the door.

"I'm sorry, Miss Johnson, Mr. White just told you not to let you in again." The security guard said with a straightforward face.

Lilly was so angry that she gritted her teeth. He didn't let her in, she didn't believe he wouldn't come out.

So she puffed up her little face, hugged her arms, and stood guard at the door of the building.
