A few years ago, a knight came in our small town. He was a tall man in full plate armor, with brown eyes and hair, with a burn scar over his right eye, many would say that he was mean looking, but he was one of the brightest people I have ever met. By his side was a small boy, no older than twelve years old, he had blue eyes and black hair and he always was wearing a cloak that hid his entire body. They were brothers, or at least that's what they said, even though they looked nothing alike.
They stayed around for a month or two, doing some small jobs here and there. Everyone in the town was defensive at first, but after the knight killed a few monsters, everyone accepted him. His little brother wasn't weak either, everyone was surprised when he chocked a bear ten times his size, it makes you wander what kind of life he had.
Our town wasn't as peaceful as it might have looked at first sight. A bandit clan was stationed near the town and they came every month for tribute, we were forced to give them almost everything we made otherwise they would kill and kidnap some of us. Even if we could fight them, they somehow tamed a lesser dragon, a wyvern, we would have had no chance and we didn't have the money to hire a mercenary strong enough to beat such a beast. We were truly out of hope.
That month we were short a few coins, they came at night and they, they took my daughter in exchange. I tried my best to stop them, but what could an old woman do, they beat me into unconsciousness. When I woke up I ran around and asked for help, no one would help and I don't blame them I wouldn't have helped either. At some point I stumbled upon the little brother and I asked for help, he was, they were my last hope.
Please, please save my daughter, she is just a little girl! I said in my massed state.
Why should I. He said with a coldness that wasn't meant for a young boy, but for a veteran who has seen hell way to many times.
Please, she is just a little girl, she has an entire life to live!
It's not my problem that you are weak. The weak die and the strong eat, that's how the world works. He said with no remorse, he seamed more like a monster than a human.
I felt everything in my life falling apart. My last hope was nothing more than an illusion, I was ready to end everything. My head fell onto the ground and I started crying.
Were is she? I heard from behind me.
I slowly picked up my head and looked to see the knight surrounded by the morning light, he looked like an angel sent by the gods.
They took her at their camp, on the mountains in the north of the town! I said without taking even one breath.
Don't worry I will save her! He said with a confidence like that of a hero from children's books.
Just those simple words made my world heal to how it was before. The knight started walking passing by me and reached his younger brother. He gave him a weak hit on the head.
Stay here, if I can't kill the dragon in time it might attack the town, protect it.
Why, there is nothing worth protecting here.
You said you liked the stew from the inn, isn't the possibility of eating it again worth protecting.
What the knight said seamed more like a joke to me but the boy nodded in agreement, he was truly just a simple and selfish creature, making me again wander what life did he have before I met them.
The knight than started running at an inhuman speed, he was like the wind. I picked myself up and went back home. I started to do my daily chores like nothing ever happened, his words were just that strong and soothing to my worried mind, I don't even know why, he was just a stranger that I have met the month before.
By the time afternoon came, the wyvern reached the town, everyone was running in fear, but I just stayed still, I wasn't worried and I had no fear. The boy walked past me and throwed his cloak on the ground, the thought of stopping passed my mind but I was sure that nothing bad will happen.
The boy attacked the wyvern, a battle that would have been unimaginable to be before started. The boy fought it tooth and nail biting, striking and slashing with his nails like a beast who was starved for weeks but his attacks were doing very little to the beast that had took him in the air and started to shake like a dog out of the rain. The boy than grabbed one of the wings and broke it's bones like a twig letting them both fall.
When the boy hit the ground he quickly picked himself up and started chanting.
Mother, oh mother, queen of the rain and storm, grant me, your only living child, your power and protection, smith my future meal, lupus ululatus.
A beam of lightning brighter and louder than any other, the sound was like that of many wolfs howling at the same time. It hit the wyvern, but the beast survived and started moving when a strong voice was heard.
Supra VULNUS!
At that time the wyvern was split right in two, it seamed impossible but it happened right in front of my eyes. When I looked around, I saw the knight with his beaten sword in one hand and my sleeping daughter in the other. My legs started moving by themself, I ran and took my daughter and held her tightly.
The next day they were gone with half of the wyvern, a note was on the other half saying "I hope this is enough to repay you for all they stool, signed Leotoo and Leo".
I understand so this Leotoo was a hero for this town. Said a man in dark plate armor with a red cape.
You are right, without him the town would have been under slavery by those bandits and I would have lost my daughter. Now why did you ask about them, are you trying to kill them or something.
What if I say that you are right?
Well good luck than, I don't think there is anything that can put down that duo.
You might be right, don't worry I just want to meet them. It's about time to go. Have a nice day.
You too, oh and they said they want to fight the dragon deities, this should help you find them.
Thank you very much.
The man starts walking away.
