"Yeah. Thought it was someone's birthday or a promotion. Turns out, it's a Ben Walker defeat party."
"We're celebrating our success, not just his failure." Bonnie chuckles softly. "Have you noticed? We always come out on top against these villains."
"True. It's our duty to make the city safer."
"Yeah, but I can't sit still. With Theo's help, I organized this little bash."
"It's great. You did a good job."
"Hey guys," Theo interrupts, approaching us with Elena, "I want you to meet my girlfriend, Elena Graham."
"Pleasure to meet you, Leonard Martin," Elena says, smiling as she shakes my hand. "I've read about your inventions. You've inspired me to become a scientist."
"Thank you, Elena. I'm glad to hear that."
"Bonnie Paige, Leo's girlfriend," Bonnie introduces herself, shaking Elena's hand.
"So excited to meet you both. Especially you, sir. I'm a huge fan."
"Thank you, Elena. Enjoy the party with Bonnie. I need to catch up with Theo."
"Sure thing," Bonnie replies as they walk away.
"So, how long have you been dating Elena?" I ask Theo.
"Two weeks."
"You didn't mention her earlier. Why?"
"My bad for keeping it quiet."
"No need to hide things from me, Theo. I'm your cousin and teammate. You have your dad and Bonnie. They deserve your trust."
"What about Elena?"
"She's smart, educated, and a fan of my work."
"You're making me blush, Leo," Theo chuckles.
"I know," I smile. "Let's join the others."
As we approach, my phone rings. I excuse myself to answer.
"Hello?"
"You've been asking about me. Thought it was time we spoke."
"Who are you?"
"Leader of the CBC. You called the cops on my men."
"You're calling me now?"
"Let's talk. I can offer you a position. We could do great things together."
"Thanks, but I'm focused elsewhere."
"If you refuse, I might have to spread rumors."
I hang up, mulling over his words briefly before rejoining the celebration.
