Chapter 10: The morning After
Mia after sleeping for so long finally wakes up to Sarah staring at her furiously . She sat up rubbing her eyes, and then felt a sharp pain in her head cus of the hangover. Sarah then rushes and brings the hang over soup for Mia to drink, and orders her to drink it up at once which Mia did without hesitation.
Mia then asks Sarah, "How did I get home" ??, Sarah been furious then said, "I should be the one doing the questioning here Mia" , you looked wasted yesterday when I got you from your boss Kaiden;sarah said.
"My boss drove me home" ?? Mia asked looking puzzled. "Yes, don't you remember a thing from last night",Sarah then asked. No,not at all. All I remember was going... But just then Sarah pulls up bags of clothes.
"Here," he also said I should give you this. Sarah then said cutting Mia off. But why Mia, what's going on with you and kaiden, tell me what I don't know. "No Sarah it's nothing, I promise."
"Just that yesterday, kaiden took me to the store to get some clothes cus I'll be accompanying him to a ball". "A ball"?? Sarah asked confused and surprised. Yeah a ball. I was also surprised as you are now. Then what about this other dress.sarah asked. Oh, well he just told them to pack it for me, but why Sarah asked almost immediately, I don't know.
Okay, okay, okay, Sara then said, so what happened at the ball, how come you were so drunk that kaiden had to carry you home himself Sarah asked. Well I can't remember any thing about that, all I remember is getting to the party, meeting different people, greeting a lot of kaiden's business partners and....
Just then, all the memories of the previous night flashed before her eyes, from the time she became drunk and said that he smelled beautifully, to the dramas she acted on the floor to her saying she would be happy to be fired, to her kissing him, all flashed before her eyes.
Just then she let out a shout of disappointment, Ah!! Mia screamed, am screwed Sarah then said placing her hands on her face and bending her head on shame.
Sarah's curiosity was grew. "What did you do, Mia? Tell me!"
Mia buried her face in her hands, terrified. "I..., I don't know, Sarah. I just remember getting drunk, and...and...saying some things I shouldn't have said."
Sarah's eyes widened. "What kind of things?"
Mia shook her head, her face still hidden. "I don't know, Sarah. I just remember feeling really drunk, and...and...Kaiden smelling beautifully...and...and...me kissing him."
Sarah's jaw dropped. "You kissed him? Mia, what were you thinking?"
Mia lifted her head, her eyes filled with shame. "I don't know, Sarah. I wasn't thinking. I was just...drunk...and...stupid."
Â
"No!,No!, No! Mia, you shouldn't have done that, now what do we do?? Sarah asked.
Just then Sarah's expression softened on looking at her friend's face. "It's okay, Mia. We've all done stupid things when we're drunk. But what's important is that you learn from it."
Mia nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. Maybe, just maybe, she could get through this after all.
But just then, Sarah's expression turned serious. "Mia, you need to be careful around Kaiden. He's not a man to be mess with. You know what, just act like you don't even remember what you did last night when you meet him on Monday."
Mia's heart sank as she realized the gravity of her situation. She had kissed her boss, made a scene, and who knows what else?,she might get fired. She was in trouble, big time.
*At kaiden's mansion *
Kaiden woke up late, the exhaustion from the previous night's events still lingering in his body. He lay in bed for a moment, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as he tried to shake off the memories of Mia's lips brushing against his. But they were persisted, haunting him like a ghost.
As he got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom, Kaiden's thoughts were consumed by the image of Mia's face, her eyes sparkling with mischief, her lips curling into a playful smile, he just kept thinking of her. He tried to push the thoughts away, but they only seemed to intensify as he stepped into the shower.
The warm water cascaded down his body, running over his chiseled abs and sleek, muscular arms. His hair, silky and smooth, flowed down backwards. As he washed himself, Kaiden's mind wandered back to Mia, this time getting lost in his thoughts his hands runing in his hair, he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to kiss her properly, to feel her lips pressed against his without the haze of alcohol.
Still lost in his thoughts,he rinsed off, Kaiden's hand instinctively rose to his lower lip, his fingers tracing the spot where Mia's lips had touched his. He felt a shiver run down his spine, and his eyes snapped open, as if startled by his own thoughts. What was he doing? He quickly finished his shower and got out, his movements brisk and efficient.
As he dressed, Kaiden's thoughts continued to stray to Mia. He couldn't understand why he couldn't shake her off, why her image kept popping up in his mind like a persistent ghost. Finally he got dressed. He put on a vintage black silk trouser, which was a loose one, and the shirt partially buttoned aslo a free shirt.
But as he made his way downstairs to eat, he realized that it was more than just her beauty or her courage that drew him to her. There was something about her, something that set her apart from the rest of humanity.
In the dining room, Kaiden's staff was assembled, their faces solemn and respectful. They feared him, and he knew it. But there was one person who didn't fear him, one person who saw beyond the mask of the powerful businessman to the man beneath.
Mrs. Jenkins, his house manager, was a ware wolf like him, and she had been like a mother to him since his own mother's passing. She had raised him, taught him, and cared for him, and he loved her for it. As he sat down to eat, Mrs. Jenkins approached him, her eyes warm with concern.
"What's wrong, Kaiden?" she asked, her hand rubbing his shoulder in a gentle gesture.
Kaiden forced a smile onto his face. "Nothing, Mrs. Jenkins. Just a long night, that's all."
But Mrs. Jenkins wasn't fooled. She knew him too well, knew the signs of turmoil that he tried to hide. She nodded, her eyes never leaving his face. "If you need to talk, Kaiden, I'm here for you."
Kaiden nodded, his gratitude towards her evident in his eyes. He finished his breakfast, his mind still consumed by thoughts of Mia. As the day wore on, he found himself wondering what she was doing, if she was thinking of him too.
The thought was both exhilarating and terrifying. Kaiden had never felt this way about anyone In a long time now, and he didn't know how to process it.
As the sun began to set, Kaiden found himself standing by the window, his eyes gazing out into the distance. He was lost in thought, his mind a thousand miles away, when Mrs. Jenkins approached him again.
"Kaiden, you need to snap out of it," she said, her voice firm but gentle. "You can't let your thoughts consume you like this."
Kaiden turned to her, his eyes focusing on her face. "I know, Mrs. Jenkins.
