Luke opened his eyes due to lack of air and jumped up from his seat, hitting his head on something hard.
A dull pain shot through the young man's head and he sat back down, rubbing the back of his head.
After several long seconds of rubbing the top of his head, Luke opened his eyes again and tried to look around. Everything was kind of muddy and incomprehensible. He couldn't figure out where he was. However, it was definitely nighttime and he was in a fairly small room.
"What the hell?"Luke said aloud and rubbed his eyes.
He looked around once more, but still couldn't make out anything.
Luke squinted and the world became a little clearer, but it was still difficult to make out anything. Rather impossible!
He waved his hands irritably and accidentally touched something.
Apparently the thing was very easy. Therefore, it flew away from his hand and fell to the floor with a thud.
Luke reached for her at the sound, and after a few seconds of grunting and searching, he finally managed to find her.
Carefully picking up the object with two fingers, Luke sat back down and probed it.
Immediately realizing what it was, the young man held it up to his face.
The world immediately became much clearer and clearer.
The round glasses fit perfectly on the bridge of his nose. One of the lenses was slightly cracked.
Despite the fact that Luke never wore glasses, they did not bother him in any way and did not cause discomfort.
He could finally look around him and figure out where he was at all.
The guy was in some kind of wooden cabin... a carriage? It wasn't very big and had a window to the left of it and a small door to the right.
However, Luke didn't take a long look at his surroundings. After all, his attention was immediately attracted by the man opposite him.
He was quite a thin man. Too much, actually. The stranger was wearing a gray coat and a black vest that were obviously too big for him. A long cylinder lay horizontally on the seat next to him and rolled back and forth a little. A little more and he will fall.
The man in the coat was a little in the shadows and he couldn't make out his face.
Luke frowned and adjusted his falling glasses.
"What's going on here?"Luke said in a threatening tone.— If this is some kind of prank on camera, then you better stop it right away. I did not consent to this and I can sue you!
There was silence in the booth. The man did not react to his threats in any way and did not even move.
A few drops of rain fell on the glass.
Luke's frown deepened.
'Is he asleep?' The guy thought.
He sighed in exasperation and got up a little from his seat.
Luke put his hand on the man's shoulder and shook him a little.
Zero reaction.
He shook it again. Already a little stronger.
Nothing.
Luke grabbed his shoulders with both hands and shook him with all his might to definitely wake him up.
— Hey man! Tell me what's going on here.…
Luke quieted down a bit, as he finally saw the man's face when his head came out into the moonlight after another shake.
When Luke saw his face, he immediately pushed the man aside and hid in a corner of the carriage.
The man in the coat hit the door, causing it to swing open. The man fell out of the carriage and landed on his back in the mud.
The rain was drizzling and small drops remained on his face.
—What the...— muttered Luke, huddled in a corner and looking at the man through the open door.
The guy was looking at the face of the unknown man in the coat. More precisely, at the place where the eyes should have been. There were none. There was only emptiness, as well as blood that flowed out of the two holes.
The red liquid was running down the dead man's face so that it looked like he was crying.
Luke lowered his gaze and saw several holes in the man's body. There were large bloodstains on his clothes coming from them. It was as if he had been stabbed several times with something sharp.
The young man was breathing heavily, huddled in a corner. Beads of sweat stood out on his face.
'He's dead... definitely dead.
'Luke shouted.— It's not funny anymore! What's going on here?!
In response, the guy heard only the sounds of increasing rain. It looks like it's going to rain.
Luke's heart was pounding in his chest and a big lump came up to his throat. He didn't understand anything from the moment he woke up.
'This doesn't look like a prank anymore.'
Luke examined the inside of the carriage once more. It was only now that he noticed signs of a struggle.
Pillows were scattered on the floor. One of the walls of the carriage was pierced and the street could be seen through it. The seats were also not in the best shape. They were all torn and covered in blood.
Luke felt something sticky on his chest. He looked at her and saw that his shirt was stained with something red and sticky. He was covered in blood. He also saw several holes in his shirt.
Luke quickly stuck his head out into the street and vomited right on top of the dead man.
Clearing his throat and wiping his mouth, he sat back down on the seat and sighed heavily.
"What's going on here?"— Luke said and scratched his hand. For some reason, it itched a lot."If... let's assume it's not a stupid prank." Then… what should I do?
The guy was staring at the floor. His head hurt and he basically felt lousy.
— Okay... first of all, it's worth seeing what I have at all.
Luke looked down at himself. His outerwear was a worn-out coat, with a once-gray shirt underneath. However, right now, most of it was smeared in blood.
After sitting for a few more minutes, gathering my thoughts. Luke finally decided to get out of the carriage and look around outside.
Rising from his seat, he jumped out of the carriage, trying not to look at the corpse.
The rain was making it harder to see around, so Luke decided to inspect the carriage.
She wasn't in the best condition. One wheel was punctured, and several holes could also be seen on the cabin. There was no sign of the horse.
Luke walked to the back of the transport and saw a chest attached to it. It had a metal lock on it.
— Hmm…
After thinking for a few seconds about what to do, Luke searched his old coat and found the key in one of the pockets.
He also found something like a wallet. Opening it, Luke saw a picture of a young guy with black hair and a short summary about him.
—Carnell Halloween... seventeen years old, first year of Skyris Academy,— Luke muttered.
'Well, he's got a name.'
raindrops soaked the document and so the guy put it back away. Sighing heavily, he turned the key in his hand again and looked at the chest.
Holding his breath, the guy inserted the key into the lock and turned it.
The key came up and Luke heard a click, after which the lock fell to the ground.
Opening the lid, the guy saw its contents. Inside the chest was a large leather bag, as well as a string bag of several books. There was also a gun.
Luke took it carefully and began to examine it.
The weapon itself looked completely different from what the guy was used to seeing in movies and video games.
The pistol was more like a musket, but with a wide enough muzzle. It was quite long and weighty. The simple engraving was emblazoned on the muzzle and shimmered in the moonlight.
However, there was something strange about him. On his right side, he had a small bulge with a round-shaped shutter.
Luke pulled back the shutter and saw nothing. There was nothing there. This space was clearly not for bullets. More like something round and about the size of a ping pong ball.
The guy released the shutter and it returned to its previous position with a loud click.
There was a second shutter on the left side. It was already more suitable for cartridges. However, it was also empty.
Luke pulled the trigger and saw a small charge of electricity run through the gun.
Luke rummaged through the chest and found a box of cartridges, as well as a small pouch.
The guy untied his bundle and carefully poured its contents into the bottom of the chest.
Small blue stones shimmered at the bottom of the chest and illuminated it a little.
Luke took one of them and examined it.
There were many small cracks inside the stone and it wasn't well-crafted by itself. However, he still attracted Luke's gaze.
After admiring the stone for a few seconds, Luke put everything back together and put the bag in his inner coat pocket.
After that, he unzipped the bag and looked at its contents.
There were a lot of things there.
From camping supplies to several sets of clean clothes.
It was already starting to rain in torrents, and Luke decided to climb back into the carriage. He took the bag and put in the box with the cartridges and the gun itself. After that, he zipped it up, picked it up and immediately put it back.
"Why the hell is it so heavy?"Luke groaned as he picked her up again and dragged her to the booth.
After putting the bag in the carriage, he looked at the corpse again.
The guy grimaced and crouched closer to the dead man. After much thought, he finally decided to search the body.
Luke reached out with his hands, but stopped in his tracks. He looked at the stranger's face again and grimaced.
"Shit shit shit."Luke muttered, wiping his hands on himself and shaking them.
After a few more long seconds of cursing and exasperated sighs, he finally decided to search the body.
However, as it turned out, it was all mostly in vain.
The only thing he found useful was a leather wallet with several bills, as well as the documents of a dead man with a silver ring.
There was a rather fat middle-aged man in the picture.
'An old photo?Luke thought.
After looking at the picture for a few more moments, his gaze slid lower and began to read.
"Gladys was wounded... forty—five years old. A teacher at Skyris Academy. Hmm... the same academy as Arthur's.
Finding no valuable information in this, Luke put the documents back in one of the pockets of the dead man's coat.
Luke looked at the ring.
'Was he married?- the guy thought and looked at the stranger again.
Luke was sure that this was a real person one hundred percent. Therefore, he was afraid to look at it. He turned away and put the ring on his finger.
The decoration itself was quite simple. The only beautiful thing about this ring was some kind of blue stone.
Luke did not look at the trinket for a long time and looked at the unknown.
The guy put his hands together and bowed briefly to him.
'Rest in peace... and I'm sorry I took the ring. You obviously don't need it anymore.'
After that, he took the corpse by the shoulders and dragged it a few meters away from the carriage. Closer to the forest.
He felt much calmer that way.
'It's still warm...'—Luke thought. Strange thoughts crossed his mind, but he shook them off.
Breathing heavily, Luke climbed back into the carriage and began to take off his wet clothes. After that, he threw them outside and put on clean clothes. He also closed the door to keep as much heat as possible.
The rain was pouring down in torrents and it was impossible to see anything beyond the nose.
Luke was now wearing a loose white shirt and a long-sleeved black trench coat. He was wearing dark trousers and boots.
After all these actions, he finally sat down on the seat and just stared at the ceiling.
He needed to think things through.
— And so… I woke up in an unknown place and found a dead man in front of me.Luke muttered, throwing his head back.— I don't have a phone with me and I can't get in touch with anyone. Also, for some reason, my eyesight has become terrible and the glasses that I see for the first time look good on me. I'm also dressed in someone else's clothes and there are documents of some Halloween Carnival there.…
At that moment, an absurd thought occurred to Luke. She was so unimaginable that he tried to forget about her right away. However, he couldn't help but test his theory.
Luke pulled the bag closer to him and began rummaging through it.
It took him a full minute to find what he was looking for. Mirror. It came with a shaving kit that consisted of a razor and some kind of strange-smelling cream in a wooden bottle.
The mirror itself was collapsible and not very large. Luke opened it with a soft click and held his breath.
He didn't look in the mirror right away, because he was afraid. His eyes were closed and he didn't really want to look in the mirror. However, he opened them anyway.
Luke saw a guy with wavy black hair in the reflection. A couple more months and the length will reach his shoulders. The face had rather soft features, but it was pleasant enough. Round glasses only complemented the image of a bookworm who did not leave the library. His eyes were ashen gray, which only enhanced the effect of his rather pale skin.
It wasn't his face.
Luke was looking at a guy he didn't know. Definitely not at myself.
He began to breathe heavily and hurriedly put the mirror back away. After that, he put his hands on his knees and buried his face in them. He sat there motionless for several minutes, breathing heavily. He was also feeling a little queasy and shivering.
Luke didn't know how long he'd been sitting there, and he didn't really want to. His guess turned out to be correct, and he certainly didn't feel any satisfaction from it.
After sitting for a while longer, Luke leaned back and stared at the ceiling. He could hear the carriage being washed by a furious downpour and a strong wind. However, he didn't care.
— I got into another world... like in some anime or a novel.
Luke sighed heavily. He didn't know whether to be happy or not.
Many of his acquaintances dreamed of going to another world and traveling, destroying evil and saving the world. Just like Luke himself.
However, when he was reborn, Luke did not see the buxom elves around him or the old king, who would give him a holy sword to kill the demon king.
The first thing he saw was the corpse of a man!
This meant that his rebirth in another world would definitely not take place on an easy difficulty, like most of the main characters from anime!
"Wait... if I was reborn... did I die? But the last thing I remember is going to my bed and falling asleep.- The guy thought for a couple of seconds, but quickly dispersed the frightening thoughts. After all, he didn't have to die to get to another world. Maybe his consciousness was simply transferred to another body?
Some part of Luke was still trying to find a logical explanation for the events that had happened to him in the last ten minutes. However, the fact remained. He somehow got into another world and now his consciousness is in the body of another person.
'Or I was drugged and now I'm being held in the basement of someone's house.— The guy thought, but decided that he liked the option of rebirth more.
Luke took out the document and looked at it.
It was the same black-haired guy Luke had seen in the mirror.
"Carnell is Halloween... so that's my name now."…
The hatch. Carnell? He sat in the carriage for a few more minutes, digesting the information and thinking about what to do next.
— First, it's worth waiting for the rain to stop. Then you can be…
A clap of thunder interrupted Luke, who jumped in surprise.
At that moment, he felt even more uneasy. It was as if someone was telling him that something was wrong.
Luke got up from the seat, went to the door and opened it. The rich smell of rain hit his nose.
It was raining heavily, which made it impossible to see anything for several meters ahead.
Luke looked into the distance, but the rain was blocking his view. He was uneasy about something.
The guy frowned and turned to the bag. He bent down and took out a strange gun from it. Luke also took out several cartridges and inserted them into the left bolt one at a time. There were seven bullets in total.
Luke reached out and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened.
The guy pulled back the right bolt and pulled the trigger again. He saw a small spark of lightning flash inside the gun.
After that, the Hatch opened the second shutter and inserted one of the blue stones into it.
He didn't know exactly why these stones were needed, but he assumed that they somehow powered the gun, and the electric charge turned on these stones. In any case, they fit perfectly into the connector, which only confirmed his guess.
Luke put the bag with the rest of the stones in his pants pockets.
The sound of rain filled his ears and the occasional peal of thunder helped him concentrate.
After checking the gun a couple more times, Luke sighed heavily and got out of the carriage.
The red plume left when Luke dragged the corpse has already blurred a bit. However, it was still visible.
The guy's clothes got completely soaked almost immediately, but he followed the path of blood. Slowly and sometimes stopping, but after a second continuing to walk.
The strong wind almost blew him away, and the water almost made him blind. However, he continued walking anyway.
His heart was pounding, and his right hand was clutching a pistol. He was restless.
Apart from the rain, it was very dark outside. Therefore, Luke saw the plume only under his feet.
He kept walking. Slowly, but he continued. The squelching sounds of water accompanied his footsteps.
At one point, he stopped and stared at the ground. His breathing quickened, and the gun trembled a little from the force of the grip.
Luke should have found the stranger's body by now. He hadn't dragged him that far away from the carriage. However, he wasn't there.
'Maybe I made a mistake and he's a little further away?Luke thought and looked ahead.
At that moment, lightning lit up the world for an instant. However, it was enough. Luke was able to see everything he needed to see.
The bloody plume continued to move on. Into the forest.
