"We're here on the scene of a tragic accident where, just moments ago, renowned businessman, Hayden Leafley, collided with a pedestrian on Tails Avenue after reportedly losing control of his vehicle at high speed. First responders are still on location, where the victim appears to be in critical condition. Leafley, who survived the crash with minor injuries, is suspected of reckless driving by witnesses in the area, though authorities have yet to confir-..."
Ugh... was that a news reporter? Everything is a blur, I can barely feel the paramedics trying to save me, and everyone sounds like I'm listening to them from underwater.
I just want to close my eyes…
"Hey, stay with me, okay? You got this!"
"Keep your eyes on me!"
"We're gonna take care of you."
"Just focus on my voice a little longer."
It wasn't too long after those pleas from the paramedics that I started to feel a weird sensation. A lightness in my head and what I could only describe as a cool breeze drifting through my nervous system. Everything became increasingly more apparent, as if time had slowed down, I could hear everyone and everything around me.
That reporter… she was talking about Hayden Leafley, wasn't she? How do people like that guy? So his company produced some great movies; big deal! He just rakes in the money anyway and shows no gratitude to the fans who got him to where he was. Of course he survives and a complete nobody like me gets wiped out.
Well, the good die young, they say. I guess I can take that to my grave. But I really wish I had done something with my life. I was just a meaningless cog in the machine, I didn't even have a pet or a solid hobby. Just another wasted blip in the grand story of the universe.
I could feel my senses starting to fade, but at least I had a moment to air out some of my grievances. The feeling increased, my eyelids getting weaker, my hands tingling. It was like I was extremely tired, I didn't even feel any pain at this point. It was oddly peaceful. And so, I shut my eyes for the final time and I let out one last breath…
"Who were my parents!"
"There's no use asking about that."
The faint sound of the door closing woke me up.
Huh? Where am I? Whoa, am I looking at an entire room? I feel like I'm in a video game, my field of vision is so wide.
I look over to see a blonde kid, pouting as he walks to the chair at his dining table.
Heh, that's weird, it looks like that boy has whiskers. I suppose someone could grow facial hair in that direction. Probably very rare though, I haven't seen anything close to that in my entire…
LIFE.
A pulse shot through me as I began to feel a rising sense of consciousness. Everything was becoming real, and way too quickly.
Wait a second… didn't I just… die?!?!!
