Chapter 1 - Genesis

The harsh smell of fire filled up my nose,I couldn't breathe ,talk or move my body ,it was a life and death situation.I could see my mum lying helplessly on the floor with her body burnt beyond recognition and I had no idea where my father was, all I could see was cloud of death waiting to fall upon my head.

I could hear screams from afar but I can't tell where it was coming from ,probably from the neighbors around sympathizing with the situation.I finally decided and had it in mind ,it was finally over until I was about to close my eyes with hot tears dripping down my cheeks then I heard a voice.

"There is a girl ,she is alive ",the voice said loudly and heavy footsteps matched towards me.Before I could close my eyes I could feel my body was lifted high up and placed on something I couldn't see then dragged out of the house .I was weak and I thought it would all end in the fire but guess my life isn't over yet .

May 30th 1999 would always be a memorable day for me.

"I am so sorry for your loss ".I heard a woman say to me as I was in front of my parents coffin mourning ,I couldn't say a word or move just kept on staring at the coffins placed in front of me .

"May the Lord bless the dead and we shall meet again"said the pastor and the crowd sang in harmony ,a song of death ,lost hope and as their body was lowered into the grave reality finally dawned on me and I knew they were gone forever.

I will never see those happy faces again,no one loved me like they did .I cried and was weak .Everyone already left the cemetery and went to their various homes but I stood still ,while on my knees hoping for a miracle to happen and bring back my parents but nothing happened, perhaps there is no such thing as a miracle.

A rain drop lands on my cheek and the weather became dark ,it pours but I stood still hoping and hoping for the miracle to happen .The rain was Heavy but I stood still until an umbrella covered my head ,I looked up in surprise only to see an old man in his 30's .I haven't met him ,before probably a stranger .

"Oh no ".He knelt and hugged me tightly like he knew me .I was still surprised but still couldn't talk.I saw a tear drop from his eyes and he said "I'm your Uncle,Stefan".

That was a shock ,so I had an uncle ?Woah .

"I'm so sorry you had to go through all this ,I'm so sorry "he added and hugged me tightly.

"Do you want to move in with me ?".He asked with his eyes full of hope and sadness.

A car honks behind us and two men came to pull us out of the cemetery and guided us to the car,I didn't want to leave but the men were strong .My Uncle and I entered the car and we both saw my grandma with a strong gaze .

"Why are you here?"she asked

"I came as soon as I heard the news ,I want to take my brother's child with me "Stefan replied .

"And what right do you have to take her?".My grandma questioned looking furious.

All I did was watch ,I wouldn't lie ,I didn't want to stay with my grandma because it seems she was only interested in the money and properties I was given but looking at my Uncle ,he looked sincere and ready to take up the responsibility .

"John entrusted her to me and its my duty to take care of her "Stefan said bringing out a letter of adoption and approval from my parents and slammed it into my grandma's face .He opens the door and drags me out of the car.

"You are not having a dime out of the money meant for her upkeep" he screamed and drags my hand away in the rain.

"Where are we going ?".I managed to ask.

"Home"he replied

I felt a strong shiver down my spine and was scared. The word Home brought back memories I wanted to bury forever but I realized ,even though I have never met him before ,I trust him .

I am Celine Durban and the mystery is just about to begin. My parents death was not the only tragedy that was going to befall me.Was I cursed? Was I charmed or was I a god of misfortune because everywhere I go it follows like a shadow.
