It's been one day since he woke up again. A black-haired young man wearing a grey shirt with short sleeves and black pants strolled around an empty city.
"From the looks of it, it's been completely abandoned... I won't find anything here, I'll just be wasting time... Also... There are a ton of them around."
The young man in his early twenties glanced to his left and spotted three grey wolves approaching sneakily.
As soon as they understood they were caught, they started running at top speed toward the young man. One of them opened its mouth and a blue light shot out of it, heading straight toward the young man.
The man in question breathed in deeply before dodging to the side, and then out of nowhere stretching his right hand forward and summoning a red spear in the next second.
The young man slashed one of the two wolves that continued toward him and split his body into two pieces. The wolf fell dead to the ground.
The second one was about to claw at the young man's neck but the black-haired man was faster, he reacted in time avoiding the injury, and even managed to land a powerful kick sending it reeling back from the force.
The wolf fell on its back and barely managed to stand up again. The force of the young man's kick made it think twice before approaching again. The third wolf had not come any closer ever since it saw the first one get split into two.
Wolves were cowards by nature, and as soon as they understood they couldn't win, the two grey wolves started running away, not daring to stay close to the young man any longer.
The young man sighed, he felt a little out of shape after this short exchange, "I need to find something to eat... I haven't eaten in... I don't know honestly."
Yesterday, the young man woke up in the middle of an open plaza surrounded by dead bodies from all sides. He quickly understood that the city was abandoned and that a large battle took place here, based on the countless corpses and rubble all around.
That wasn't everything, the young man didn't remember anything from before he woke up.
It was all shrouded in black mist, no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't access those memories. He still remembered concepts, like what a human was, what eating meant, and what drinking referred to.
How to speak, read and write, and much more, but he didn't remember memories. He didn't know who he was, aside from his name that is.
He remembered it for some reason or another, Rener Akilos, that was it.
Rener didn't just forget about his memories, but he also forgot about the world, why was this city abandoned? Why could he summon a Red Spear from nowhere? Where did he gain his combat skills?
Why did wolves shoot a bluish light from their mouth?
He had so many questions, but no answers as of now. He first inspected the dead corpses lying around him and found that each had a unique symbol of their own.
One had a white sword and shield, another simply wore red cloaks, others had red roses, and some had black ones. There were simply too many for him to remember all of them, but he tried to remember as many as he could.
'Just how many organizations were involved in that battle? And why did I alone survive? Or did others survive too? But then, if they did, why didn't they wake me up... Or kill me as well? I don't know, I have no idea.'
'And that... It bothers me greatly, I hate this feeling! Tsk, but I don't have much of a choice in the matter... I spent most of yesterday and this morning searching through the city... Someone has been here before, they've scavenged all the available food, and nothing's left here.'
'Not just food, even other necessities... This place is completely empty... Aside from the random wolves here and there that I've encountered. I mean, thank God I didn't forget how to fight, or I would be dead by now too.'
Rener shook his head briefly, he stretched his right hand forward and the red spear disappeared, leaving no trace behind, almost as though it was never there, to begin with.
Rener sighed again, 'I've discovered that the more I keep the red spear around, the more tired I become... It uses up my stamina somehow.' The young man then turned to glance at the dead corpse of the grey wolf, he noticed something interesting about it.
Unlike all the other wolves he had killed since waking up yesterday, this one... Something strange was happening to it. It was pushing out something with the blood.
Rener came closer and found out what that thing was. A card.
He picked it up, and surprisingly it wasn't bloody to the touch, 'Is this a joke?' The card was blue and had the shape of a blue line of lightning drawn on it.
Something was written on it too, Lightning Shot.
"This is a joke for sure... Yeah, it has to be!" Rener nodded to himself as he stuffed the blue card inside his pockets and stood up again.
"Time to leave this place... There is a forest encircling most of the city... It's still morning, so it shouldn't be that dangerous to cross... At least, I hope so." With that said, the black-haired young man started making his way forward again.
While Rener continued on his way, he was completely unaware of the fact that he was being followed at the moment. A pink-haired young woman wearing sniper glasses stared at him from the rooftop of a nearby building.
Beside her stood three young men and one other young woman. One of the young men spoke up, he had a small beard and black hair just like Rener's. He looked to be in his late twenties, "So, what are we doing with him, Petra?"
The pink-haired young woman sighed, she was currently eating some sort of candy, "Hmm, I don't know, I'm still not too sure about the guy, he seems okay enough... I mean, he does look cute, but that's beside the point."
Another of the young men scoffed at her reply, "We either approach him or leave this place. We've already looked around, the city's empty, and there is no food or valuables in here."
The third young man agreed with him on that point, "I don't like the idea of leaving someone alone like this, let's approach him, the sooner the better. I don't want to waste a day over nothing."
The other young woman didn't say anything, she just waited for Petra's reply. The pink-haired young woman gave a slight nod of the head, "Fine fine, I get it. We'll talk to him soon... Just another ten minutes... I need to be sure about him, we can't lead anyone suspicious back home."
The three young men seemed a little annoyed by Petra's reply but still agreed to her decision. With that, the team of five continued tracking Rener in the shadows, while the young man in question continued toward the forest, intent on leaving the city soon.
