Chapter 8 - 3 days

Isabella's pov

It has been 3 days and 2 nights since the discussion to auction me away for a peace treaty with the Cresecent Pack. My punishment was well served, I did not get anything to eat for the 3 days and tonight, my stomach was truly fighting me. With each growl, my body reacted severely, I felt a series of cramps in my abdomen and nausea overtook me. I think the pain was also partly due to the hit I got from Sofia 3 days ago but then I was almost healed so I don't really know what it was. In any case, I did not think I could bear it, and the hunger so much that suddenly I missed my leftovers.

My normal day-to-day meals were actually leftovers after the pack had had their meals. They ate as a single unit each day, with strict times from breakfast to dinner. Breakfast started at 6 am, lunch could be picked up at 1 pm and dinner where everyone had to show up again was at 7 pm. After these times, would be my turn to eat. I was not allowed to sit down and eat with them, I hadn't been allowed near the dining area in forever so much that it had become second nature to eat alone in my little house. Sure it was lonely, but I got used to it.

(knock,knock, knock)

A sudden knock on my door stopped me from lamenting on my past. But who was it? I rarely had guests unless we would count, Sofia and his friends who would come torment me in my little safe haven for fun.

I took my time to get to the door, my legs were trembling slightly from the weakness that had overtaken my body from a lack of something to eat and drink for so long. Each step felt like an agonizing step to hell as the nausea crept up even more making me wonder what exactly would I throw up when I haven't eaten.

I opened to the door to find Sylvia, the pack healer. She had a plate of food in one hand and her work healer kit in the other. My unscrupulous stomach growled then and there to my embarrassment.

" Hello, Bella, it seems I did a good thing bringing a little plate for you, huh?" She said with a smile wiggling her eyebrows. Sylvia was a she-wolf. She was 21 yeats old and an omega like myself but at least, she got some healing powers so the moon goddess spared her the discrimination other omega she-wolves faced.

" Hi, please come in." I said meekly, even though I did not know why she had come to my humble chicken house.

" Thank you, you must be wondering what am I doing here at night. I was told to come check on you to make sure that you are physically well and healthy. So this is a check-up." She explained as she entered and placed her kit bag on the only chair I had in the house. But her words caught my attention, a check-up? More like a way for them to make sure that they did not deliver damaged goods to the South, they would not care about me enough to give me a random health check.

I usually got sick at least five times a year which is already 5 times more than a typical wolf would in a year and they would still not ask the healer to look at me for anything. But if Sofia broke a nail or even so much sneeze, the entire territory would be in jitters trying to find a way to cure her because she was their precious strong beta princess, they couldn't afford for her to be sick.

" Oh, thanks." I replied dryly.

" It's nothing. Also here, have some,I made lamb chops and some veggies, I thought you would have skipped dinner so I thought bringing a plate wouldn't be bad. You can have those while I check on you." Sylvia said in a soft tone already distracted by her healer bag as she was taking out stuff from it.

" Thank you," I said again already busying myself with what interested my body and soul at the present, the plate of delicious delicacies Sylvia brought.

The first basic check-up wasn't anything huge, just the normal things like temperature to check for a fever, blood pressure, sugar levels, and all. These were the basics of the basics which were adopted from human facilities. Next, she checked my arms and legs for any bruises or injuries of any sort.

" You are actually better than last time we met in secret," Sylvia said pointing out to our usual night sessions where I would have been beaten up for entertainment by Sofia and her squad and she would come in secret to patch me up.

" You would be pleased to know that I stirred clear of trouble the entire month now, the only time was the other day when she kicked me." I said. I could speak freely with Sylvia, she was not on any sides but she had a moral compass that could clearly detect wrong and right. That's why I loved her.

" that's lovely, you could use the peace, honey. Now are you done eating?" She said and I nodded.

" Alright, let's look at the other parts of the body." She said, and by the other parts she was referring to my abdomen and mostly my back. I stood up from the chair as she went back to her bag. I walked to the light switch and switched the lights off.

I had memorized the position of the chair in the center and so I walked back with ease.

Sitting down, I carefully took off my tank top and sports bra. I shivered at the cold wind that blew from the broken sections of my door. The wind was picking up outside.

Sylvia took a candle from her bag and lit it. She moved closer to me holding the candle holder in one hand and with her free hand she carefully touched me.

" Do you still get any phantom pain?" She spoke in almost a whisper, she would get extremely sensitive when she examined my back. My back was where my father had been skinning me over and over again. Though I recovered, my nerves there were pretty torn and they never recovered. Nerves could not regenerate so they were not functioning properly. I had instances where my back would just burn up or feel extremely cold despite normal weather outside and then, the phantom pain, this one was my worst nightmare, the reason behind many sleepless nights as a child until today.

" Sometimes, it gets triggered," I replied mechanically, the triggers were not many but one, my father, each time they managed him and "teach" or "punishment" in one sentence I would fall apart and the pain would begin. Also, I was incredibly sensitive to light, that was the reason why I switched off the lights.

" The scars are disappearing at least, just that your lower back was severely hurt so it would probably take much longer for those to disappear." She said.

" No matter how many check-ups they book for you, they won't cover up what our alpha did to you. You will have to go with those scars to the new pack." Sylvia said with a sigh, I knew it and she knew it too, the pack was scared that I would leave with "evidence" of Lucian's ruthless leadership so they were doing everything they could to cover up but unfortunately for them, nothing but time would heal those scars on my back and as for the emotional deal he dealt me, that would only heal when I get my revenge.
