Chapter 2 - 2- The Villainess: Selena Gray

Seeing Lucian from afar, he was a tall and handsome guy. His muscles were slightly visible under his school uniform. His slick black hair and red eyes enhanced his elegant and confident aura. Selena instinctively took a step back, she wasn't ready to face him yet. She could not act like she was in love or obsessed with him when she just transmigrated. It would be a huge mistake to walk by him without saying anything. It would be suspicious. However, Lucian won't pay her much attention when he's absorbed by Grace. Even so, it was better to be cautious around him.

Since the bell didn't ring yet, she escaped to the bathroom. Her reflection in the mirror was stunning. She also had the same face as before but she looked much younger. Red flaming undulated hair reached her waist. Golden eyes stared back at her in the mirror. The villainess was very pretty. She touched her well-maintained hair carefully. Before her transmigration, she never kept her hair that long. She had to cut it so that it didn't interfere with her bodyguard work. People never said that she was pretty because they would always compare her with her little sister. She didn't mind though because her sister and her parents would always let her know that she was pretty too.

Standing closer to the mirror, the makeup was even uglier. The villainess dolled herself every day hoping to catch Lucian's attention but it just hid her natural beauty. Nobody was bold enough to tell her that her makeup was ugly. Sighing, she decided to wipe out her heavy makeup when she got home.

The bell rang announcing the end of the break. With a thumping heart, she returned to the classroom. She will get to see all the main characters in one classroom. At the beginning of the novel, the story mainly takes place inside a private high school. The school was famous for housing rich kids and students with excellent grades who got special admission. The main characters were all in Grace's class. It was their last year of high school and they were 17 years old.

Selena was grateful to attend school. In her past life, she only graduated from primary school. Her dream was to go back to school and learn when her family would be financially stable, but it never happened.

The math teacher was explaining some complicated formula but her mind wasn't concentrated. She just couldn't believe what had happened during the past hours. Transmigrating inside a novel wasn't something she expected. During the rest of the school day, she stared at Grace's back, lost in thought.

The bell rang again, signalling the end of the day. In front of the school gates, she waited for her chauffeur. A lot of rich kids were waiting for their black limousines and she was one of them. Arriving at her penthouse, she went inside as a maid welcomed her. The villainess's parents bought her a penthouse near the school as they were filthy rich. She lived alone with a few servants and her parents would often visit her during the weekends. Wiping out her makeup, she took a long shower. When she looked at her reflection again, her face was much cleaner and prettier. She sat before her desk with fruits and snacks that the maid prepared. The fanciness made her uncomfortable but the previous host's memories helped her adapt to the new environment. In a small notebook, she started to plan what she had to do.

[*Most important mission: Save Grace from the corrupted Lucian]

She tapped the pen on her head. How would she complete her mission? If she were to fail, her dear sister would die again. There was no way she would let that happen again, over her dead body. She thought that the wisest thing to do was to lower the chances of encounter and interaction between Grace and Lucian. In the novel, Lucian's obsession grows each time they spend time with each other. She had to somehow limit their chances of meeting.

[First step to achieve a happy ending for my sister: Bring THAT person to my side before Lucian.]

There was an important side character in the novel that helped Lucian get closer to Grace. She acted as a spy for Lucian but later betrayed him because she genuinely liked Grace as a friend. Grace's childhood friend was another character that could help her. However, he was overly cautious of her because he suspected that Selena bullied Grace. It had only been two weeks since school started, but he already caught on that Grace was being bullied. Selena also thought of making her family more powerful than Lucian's family, but that would be too difficult to achieve. Her family was powerful but Lucian's family was the most powerful inside the novel.

[Conclusion: Keep Grace and Lucian distanced as a priority.]

She concluded that if she wanted the ending to change, the scenes from the novel had to change. There was no way she would let all those kidnappings and violence happen to her sister.

[Bring Yuki to my side no matter what.

1st day of transmigration]

The next day

Selena thought long and hard about how to approach Yuki and she decided that being intimidating would fit her character better. She let her followers call Yuki to the rooftop during lunchtime. Yuki's family were in dire need of money right now, and Selena wanted to use that to her advantage. She would have no other choice but to accept. Her family ran a taekwondo studio and her father was an excellent teacher. Unfortunately, a few months ago, Yuki's father severely injured his leg. He needed to get surgery as soon as possible or else he could be crippled for life. Her parents hid the fact that it was severe. Yuki wanted to quit school and earn money but her parents reassured her that they found a way to get the money for surgery. Of course, that was a lie. In the novel, the male lead uses her weakness to make her his spy.

Footsteps could be heard from the stairs leading to the rooftop. Yuki climbed those endless stairs nervously. She heard about those famous rumours about Selena tormenting other students. She hoped she didn't get on her bad side. Despite her cute appearance and small body, Yuki was good at taekwondo. Defending herself would be easy, but she was worried about the consequences of defying the rich kids.

A cute girl with a bob cut approached Selena, fidgeting and looking down not daring to look up. Selena went straight to the point, "I want you to approach Grace, gain her trust and report to me every time she gets close to Lucian. I want you to keep a close eye on her. If you can do that and do a good job, I'll take care of your father's hospital bills. Do we have a deal?"

Puzzled, Yuki processed again what the rich girl just said. It was something she didn't expect. She heard some rumours that Selena was bullying Grace because of Lucian. She didn't want to get involved in this future bloodbath nor was she willing to help her harm someone. The offer was tempting but she could always find other ways to earn money. The fact that Selena knew about her family situation meant that she ran a background check on her, making her uncomfortable.

Yuki politely rejected the offer, saying, "Sorry, I don't think I can do it. Maybe you can find someone else."

Selena smiled coldly, blending in her role as the villainess. "Maybe I asked you too nicely. You aren't in the position to refuse right now. Your father's leg is getting worse each day. If he doesn't get treated soon, he'll be crippled for life."

Yuki's face darkened. She didn't know her father's condition was that severe. She knew that Selena had no reason to lie to her so she accepted the deal. Selena tried to hide her relief, if she didn't win over Yuki, it would be harder for her to protect her sister.

"I'll send you the contract and details later tonight. I hope we get along."

As she watched Yuki leave the rooftop, Selena hoped that everything would go along well. There was still a long way to go before the ending of the novel.

'Yuki, I'm counting on you,' she thought. 'You tried to protect Grace from the male lead in the novel but you also met a tragic ending. With you by her side, I'm sure my sister would be happier.'
