Eve woke up with a start, her heart beating fast. She knew
what had woken her up, nature wanted a leak. She did not
need to look out her window to see the blinking light, she
knew it would have started. Just as she had seen it the
previous night and the night before that. How this was
happening only three days after she moved in was a mystery"Is this a code or something?",she wondered. Sometimes, the
blinking light would last ten to fifteen seconds and if Eve
stayed close to her window, it would stay up to five minutes.
"Or could it be a prank?right!" she thought, "that's it!" Her
neighbour, the Aransis, had a seven-year-old son. She knew
this because he had come with his mother who brought her a
cake when she moved in. The gesture had been funny and
foreign to her because who brings a new neighbour a cake in
Nigeria? but, it had been a sweet gesture however strange it
seemed. She had not paid attention to the child, as she had
been talking with Mrs Aransi who seemed very nice. But with
this prank, she would have to talk to the mother,it was an
expensive joke. On another note, she thought while she
walked to the window, looking out as the light blinked to a
stop, it could be a cry for help. "Seriously, Eve?" She laughed
"like a" Code Red abi" . Too many James Patterson novels,
she teased herself. She drifted off to sleep thinking of the faint
light again.
