Chapter 12 - Chapter 11: Demon x Angel

Sixteen years ago

Baselroth moved up gradually until her feets touched the smooth crystal floor of Lavoc. She had just ascended from her bedroom into the secret place for angels. The place was bare except for the three materials that made up its surrounding: ice, mirror and crystals. Every angel had one similar to this. It was a place they could go to have some privacy. From the mirror, Baselroth could see Cinzel's stern face soften a bit. The lines on her forehead deepened when Cinzel turned to face her with a smile.

Cinzel chuckled. "Gosh, look at you. You are so charming to look at."

"Very funny Cinzel," Baselroth said. "So after ignoring me for two weeks the first thing you say to me is that I'm charming to behold?"

Cinzel shrugged before saying, "I'm sorry. Savior had me supervising the throne in his absence."

"Why do you have to watch over his throne? It's not like any angel is powerful enough to sit on it."

"Maybe not, but anything is possible. Some of my brothers are sick dicks! If you leave them without supervision they could try and just maybe one of them out of at least hundreds of thousands of them could successfully ascend the throne. What do you think would happen?"

Baselroth scoffed. "I don't see how that can happen. My father is still the most powerful of you lots, though he's now a demon, yet he hasn't ascended the throne. You take this job too seriously."

"Yeah, your father is the main reason I take my job seriously."

Baselroth laughed and it was so beautiful for Cinzel to listen to. He walked up to her, taking her hands with both of his in a firm grip. They smiled and gazed into each other's eyes lovingly.

"How is our son?" Cinzel said, still smiling.

"I found a nice couple in Felfili and left him on their doorstep. The woman has a baby and she lives with her husband. She took Rademos with so much glee."

"Rademos?" Cinzel asked, sounding surprised.

"Should I have left him without a name?"

"No! It's just that Rademos is a fine name! It sounds really angelic."

"Yeah, I figured you'd love it."

Cinzel chuckled softly. "Did you place the protection hex on him like you said you would?"

"Yeah, yeah I did that," Baselroth replied sniffling.

"Ah, you're sad?"

Baselroth fought back tears. "I'm not sad, I'm pissed! It's unfair to just give up my child-"

"Shh. Shh. Shh! I'm pissed too, but you and I both know it's our only option. It's never happened before. We can't risk anyone finding out about him until he's grown. That child is too special. I could feel it right from when you were carrying him in your womb."

"Ah-" Baselroth pulled her hands away from Cinzel's. "The protection hex won't last for a long time. At best maybe ten years and his powers will start unveiling themselves."

"What, just ten years? I should've hexed him myself!"

"You should! But you were busy playing bodyguard and you left all the job for me."

"Aw, come on!"

"I'm just establishing facts!"

"Fine, we'll figure out a contingency plan for when the hex fades away."

"My father is forcing me to get married. He says he's desperate for a grandson. And he doesn't want me going anywhere near Felfili or Wollington alone. I believe he thinks the reason I'm refusing to marry is because I'm either fucking a human or a Lycan."

"Oh crap! So, what, we can only hang out in Lavoc?"

"Yeah, it seems like. And also, I wouldn't get to see my son as often as I would love to."

Cinzel wiped his face down with both of his palms and his counternace changed to that of frustration. "That sucks big time."

"It does, and uh, you know my father, I can't keep stalling him."

"I know, babe," Cinzel said quietly. "So what happens now?"

"I have to get married to one of his generals."

"Yeah, but if you do that, won't there be concerns why you can't bear a child?"

"There are many reasons for spiritual barrenness. Incompatibility, topping the list. I'm not going to get blamed for not being able to fathom a child."

"Oh I see, so technically you are just agreeing to the marriage to have your father lower his suspicion?"

"Um, yeah."

"You can't have sex with the demon!"

"I don't want to either, but that's impossible."

"No, you can't," Cinzel said sharply.

"Cinzel!" Baselroth snapped in annoyance. "You and I know there's no way we can truly be together. Remember, whatever it takes is what we have to do to be together. You think I'm going to enjoy having sex with a demon? Look at me when I'm talking to you!"

Cinzel's breath shook as Baselroth held his face with both of her palms. She wanted him to look at her. She understood how he felt– jealous. If there was another choice she would have taken it, but there was none and they knew what they were signing up for when they bowed to be together.

"I'm sorry," Cinzel said. "I knew this day would come and I thought I would be able to withstand it when the time came."

Baselroth brought her lips to kiss his and Cinzel shut his eyes dreamingly. Cinzel brought his hand to hold her face too and he tipped his head sideways as the kiss grew more passionate. After a while they pulled out of the kiss.

"I'll always be yours," Baselroth declared firmly.

"I know, I know. Whatever it takes."

"Whatever it takes," she repeated. "So, when do you plan on seeing your son?"

"Uh, about that. Savior is still not back."

"What? Who's watching the throne now?"

"Zariel," Cinzel replied, scoffing softly. He had this guilty look on his face.

"I know that look," Baselroth said. "Is Zariel not capable of watching the throne?"

"It's not that. I just think Savior might be gone for a really long time. He is brooding over something, but he usually keeps everything a secret."
