Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Battle Erupts

The sound of the rogues' howls reverberated through the camp, a chilling symphony that made Amara's blood run cold. Outside the tent, the shadows of Selene's army moved like a restless tide, growing thicker and more menacing with every second. The pack's stealth had been compromised, and now they faced an all-out confrontation.

Lucian's golden eyes locked onto Amara's, fierce and unwavering. "Stay behind me," he commanded, his voice low but steady. "No matter what happens, do not leave my side."

Amara nodded, gripping her silver dagger tightly. Her palms were sweaty, her heart pounding like a war drum in her chest. She could feel the weight of the moment, the overwhelming sense that everything was about to explode into chaos.

Elena stepped up beside Lucian, her blade slick with blood and her expression grim. "They'll storm the tent any second," she said, her voice calm despite the tension in the air. "We need to move."

Lucian nodded, his jaw tight. "We fight our way out. Get Amara to safety first."

Elena glanced at Amara, her blue eyes sharp. "Understood."

The tent flap fluttered violently as the first rogue burst through, its claws slashing through the air. Lucian was on it in an instant, his powerful frame colliding with the beast in a brutal clash of muscle and fury. The tent erupted into chaos as more rogues poured in, their snarls and growls filling the space.

Elena moved like a predator, her blade cutting through the enemy with deadly precision. Amara pressed herself against the back of the tent, her breath coming in short gasps as she watched the carnage unfold. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but she knew there was nowhere to go.

"Amara, move!" Lucian shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.

She barely had time to react before he grabbed her arm, pulling her toward the torn edge of the tent. The two of them emerged into the open, the cold night air hitting her like a slap. The camp was a frenzy of motion—rogues and wolves clashed in every direction, their growls and cries blending into a deafening roar.

Lucian's hand never left hers as he led her through the chaos, his sharp eyes scanning for threats. Amara stumbled to keep up, her legs weak but her determination stronger than ever. She had promised to stay with him, and she wasn't about to break that promise now.

"Hold on!" Lucian growled, pulling her close as another rogue lunged toward them.

Amara barely had time to react before Lucian shifted mid-motion, his massive black wolf form erupting from his human body. He slammed into the rogue, his claws raking across its chest in one swift motion. The creature fell lifeless to the ground, and Lucian turned to Amara, his glowing eyes wild and fierce.

"Get on my back!" he barked, his voice deep and guttural even in wolf form.

Amara hesitated for only a moment before obeying, climbing onto his back and gripping his thick fur tightly. Lucian didn't wait—he surged forward, weaving through the chaos with astonishing speed. She clung to him, her heart pounding as the wind whipped against her face.

Around them, the pack fought with relentless ferocity. Elena led a small group of warriors, their movements coordinated as they pushed back the rogues. The air was thick with the scent of blood and earth, the sounds of battle echoing into the night.

Lucian came to an abrupt stop near the edge of the camp, setting Amara down gently before shifting back to his human form. His chest heaved, his body slick with sweat and blood, but his golden eyes remained sharp.

"You'll be safer here," he said, his voice low. "Stay hidden. I'll come back for you."

"No," Amara said, her voice firm despite the fear twisting in her chest. "I'm not hiding while you fight. I can help."

Lucian's jaw tightened, his frustration evident. "Amara—"

"I'm not a liability," she interrupted, stepping closer. "I know I'm not as strong as you, but I can fight. Let me do something."

Lucian stared at her, his eyes searching hers for a long moment. Finally, he nodded. "Stay close. And don't hesitate to use that dagger."

"I won't," she promised, her grip tightening on the blade.

The two of them rejoined the battle, fighting side by side as they pushed deeper into the rogue camp. Lucian was a force of nature, his claws and fangs tearing through the enemy with unrelenting precision. Amara stayed close, her movements careful but purposeful as she used her dagger to fend off any rogue that got too close.

It wasn't long before they reached the center of the camp, where a large fire burned brightly. Standing before it, her silver eyes gleaming with malice, was Selene.

"Well, isn't this a surprise," Selene said, her voice dripping with mockery. "The great Alpha and his little human mate."

Lucian growled, his body tensing as he stepped in front of Amara. "This ends tonight, Selene."

Selene smirked, her dark hair flowing like silk as she tilted her head. "You think you can stop me, Lucian? You've grown weak—soft. And now you've brought her into this? How pathetic."

Amara felt a surge of anger at Selene's words, but she kept her focus on the rogue leader. This was the woman who had hunted them, who had put Lucian's pack in danger. She wouldn't let her win.

"Your fight is with me," Lucian said, his voice cold and steady. "Leave my pack—leave her—out of this."

Selene laughed, the sound cruel and sharp. "Oh, Lucian. You still don't understand, do you? This isn't just about power. It's about breaking you. And I'll start by taking her."

Before Lucian could react, Selene raised her hand, dark energy crackling around her fingers. She sent a wave of magic hurtling toward Amara, the force of it knocking her to the ground. Pain exploded through her body, and she gasped, struggling to catch her breath.

Lucian roared, his body shifting back into his wolf form as he lunged at Selene. The two collided with a deafening crash, their battle shaking the ground beneath them. Amara pushed herself up, her vision blurry but her determination unshaken.

She tightened her grip on the dagger and moved toward the fight. Selene was powerful, her dark magic swirling around her as she fought Lucian, but Amara refused to stand by and do nothing.

Summoning every ounce of courage, Amara lunged forward, her dagger slicing through the air. The blade caught Selene's arm, cutting deep and causing the rogue leader to cry out in pain. The dark magic faltered, giving Lucian the opening he needed.

With a savage growl, Lucian struck, his claws raking across Selene's chest. She staggered back, blood dripping onto the ground, but her silver eyes burned with fury.

"This isn't over," she hissed, her voice venomous. "I'll be back. And next time, you won't be so lucky."

With a final burst of magic, Selene disappeared into the shadows, her presence fading from the camp.

The battle was over, but the tension lingered. The rogues that remained fled into the forest, their morale shattered by Selene's retreat. The pack began to regroup, their movements slow and weary.

Lucian shifted back into his human form, his body covered in cuts and bruises. He turned to Amara, his golden eyes filled with a mix of relief and concern.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft.

Amara nodded, her body trembling from exhaustion but her resolve intact. "I'm fine. What about you?"

"I'll heal," he said, stepping closer. "You were incredible, Amara. I don't think we could've driven her back without you."

The warmth in his words sent a surge of emotion through her, and she smiled despite the pain. "We did it together."

Lucian reached out, his hand brushing against hers. "Together," he agreed, his voice filled with quiet determination.

The battle was won, but Amara knew this was only the beginning. Selene would return, and the fight for their survival—and their bond—was far from over. But for now, they had each other. And that was enough.
