Chapter 2 - Into The Wilderness

The group pedaled along the road, their backpacks filled with essentials and a small portable radio strapped to Brooke's bike, playing soft classical tunes. The music wove through their conversation, adding a touch of charm to their journey. Their laughter filled the air as they rode side by side, the energy of the adventure keeping their spirits high.

As they approached the edge of town, Brooke pointed toward a smaller trail. "Let's take the shortcut through the jungle. It'll be quicker, and the view will be amazing," she suggested.

Without hesitation, they veered onto the unpaved path, their bicycles bumping along the uneven trail. The forest around them grew thicker with each turn, sunlight filtering through the canopy in golden streaks. The air smelled of earth and wildflowers, and the distant sound of rushing water hinted at a river nearby.

After nearly half an hour of cycling, the trees opened up to reveal a breathtaking scene. A shimmering river snaked its way through the valley below, its source a majestic waterfall cascading down from the mountains—an iconic landmark of their town, but one they had never seen from this perspective. They paused for a moment to take in the sight, their usual chatter replaced by awe.

"This place is incredible," Ky said, breaking the silence.

Griffin grinned. "Totally worth the shortcut."

Encouraged by the view, they pressed on, the trail leading them deeper into the forest. By sunset, they arrived at a small clearing that seemed like the perfect spot to set up camp for the night.

As dusk settled, they unpacked their gear and worked together to pitch their tents. Hayden and Griffin gathered wood for a bonfire while Ky set up the portable stove for dinner. Soon, the fire crackled warmly, casting a golden glow over the campsite.

They spent the evening immersed in laughter, storytelling, and music. Brooke strummed a tune on a small ukulele she had brought along, and the others joined in with singing and dancing. They shared stories, some adventurous, others downright spooky, while passing around snacks and sipping from thermoses.

As the night deepened, some indulged in a bit of smoking, their laughter echoing through the forest. The stars above seemed brighter than ever, creating a magical backdrop to their revelry.
