Chapter 140 - Chapter 136: “The Candy Hangover Chronicles”

The morning after the great candy battle was, to no one's surprise, a disaster.

Kazuya woke up with a splitting headache, his hair sticky with remnants of what appeared to be frosting. His boots still squelched with caramel every time he moved, and his sword—his once-pristine blade—was now permanently stained with streaks of licorice.

"Morning, hero," Sylvara chirped as she plopped down next to him. She looked annoyingly refreshed, her hair bouncing like spun sugar. "How's the candy hangover?"

Kazuya groaned. "I feel like I got run over by a gummy bear."

"That's because you did," Ravynne said flatly, stepping into the clearing. She was covered in bits of marshmallow fluff and glaring daggers at Sylvara. "Next time we encounter a magical dessert, I'm setting it on fire."

Sylvara pouted. "Aww, come on. It wasn't that bad. We won, didn't we?"

"Barely," Ravynne muttered, rubbing her temple. "And now we have a licorice lord in our wake, a recipe we don't understand, and a hero who smells like a candy store dumpster."

Kazuya sniffed his armor and winced. "She's not wrong."

The Recipe's Riddle

The group gathered around the Recipe of Eternity, which continued to shimmer and shift its text like a magical lava lamp.

"Alright," Kazuya said, still wiping frosting from his sword. "What's the deal with this thing? Is it a recipe, a weapon, a treasure map, or just an elaborate troll?"

Sylvara squinted at the parchment. "It's like it wants to be all those things. See here? It's talking about... ingredients? But then it shifts to... instructions for building something?"

Ravynne sighed. "It's likely enchanted to confuse anyone who isn't its rightful owner. My guess is that we need some kind of key or cipher to decode it."

"A key?" Sylvara said, tilting her head. "Like a real key? Or, ooh, maybe a metaphorical key! Like true love or the laughter of a child!"

Ravynne stared at her. "I really hope it's an actual key."

A Clue from the Cotton Candy Cocoon

Before they could ponder further, the sticky remnants of Malakar's cotton candy prison began to dissolve. Kazuya prodded it with his sword, half-expecting the Licorice Lord to pop out like a jack-in-the-box.

Instead, a small, crystalline shard tumbled out of the sticky mess. It sparkled in the sunlight, radiating a faint hum of magic.

"What's this?" Kazuya asked, picking it up.

Ravynne took it from him, her eyes narrowing. "This is a fragment of Malakar's staff. It might be the key we need to decipher the Recipe."

"Great!" Sylvara said, clapping her hands. "Let's plug it in and see what happens!"

"Maybe we should—" Ravynne started, but Sylvara had already pressed the shard to the parchment.

Candy Apocalypse 2.0

The Recipe glowed brightly, and for a moment, everything seemed fine. Then the ground started shaking.

"Oh no," Kazuya muttered. "Not again."

Before their eyes, the Recipe began projecting an image—a massive, glowing map of the continent, with one spot highlighted in bright red. The ground beneath them shifted, and a voice boomed from the parchment:

"BEHOLD THE PATH TO THE CANDY VAULT OF LEGENDS! THOSE WHO SEEK ITS SWEET TREASURES MUST PASS THE TRIAL OF THE CHOCOLATE CHASM!"

Sylvara's eyes lit up. "A candy vault? That sounds amazing! Let's go!"

"Didn't we just survive a candy apocalypse?" Ravynne said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Why would we willingly walk into another one?"

"Because," Sylvara said, striking a dramatic pose, "the only thing sweeter than candy... is adventure!"

"...and diabetes," Kazuya muttered.

Onward to the Chocolate Chasm

The group set off toward the location on the map, reluctantly following Sylvara's sugar-fueled enthusiasm. The journey was mercifully quiet—until they reached the edge of the Chocolate Chasm.

The chasm was a massive, yawning pit filled with bubbling molten chocolate. Bridges made of wafer-thin cookie planks stretched precariously across it, swaying dangerously in the wind. Above, a swarm of licorice bats circled ominously.

"Oh, come on," Kazuya groaned. "Who designs these places?"

"I think it's beautiful," Sylvara said, her eyes shining. "Dangerous, but beautiful. Like... edible art!"

Ravynne stepped forward, testing one of the wafer planks with her boot. It cracked ominously. "This is a death trap."

"Only if you fall," Sylvara said cheerfully.

"That's... how traps work," Ravynne replied.

The Wafer Walk

Crossing the chasm was a nightmare. Every step on the wafer planks sent cracks spidering through the cookies, and the molten chocolate below bubbled menacingly.

Sylvara, of course, skipped across like it was a walk in the park, humming to herself. "This is fun! It's like one of those adventure courses!"

"Do you ever take anything seriously?" Ravynne hissed as she carefully inched forward.

"Sure," Sylvara said. "But not when it's covered in chocolate."

Halfway across, one of the licorice bats swooped down, narrowly missing Kazuya's head. He yelped, nearly losing his balance.

"Great," he muttered. "Now we've got flying sugar monsters. Again."

The Chocolate Guardian

They reached the other side of the chasm just as a massive figure rose from the chocolate. It was a golem made entirely of fudge, its eyes glowing with molten caramel.

"INTRUDERS," it rumbled. "TURN BACK OR FACE THE WRATH OF THE CHOCOLATE GUARDIAN."

Sylvara clapped her hands. "Oh my gosh, it's adorable!"

"It's terrifying," Kazuya corrected, drawing his sword. "And it's probably going to try to kill us."

"Probably," Ravynne agreed, readying her crossbow.

The Chocolate Guardian roared, raising its fudge-covered fists. Sylvara, however, stepped forward and waved.

"Hi, Mr. Chocolate Guardian! Can we be friends?"

The golem paused, tilting its head. For a moment, it seemed to consider her words.

Then it threw a chocolate boulder at her.

Battle of the Chocolate Chasm

What followed was yet another ridiculous battle. Kazuya hacked at the golem with his caramel-stained sword, while Ravynne shot at its eyes with licorice-tipped bolts. Sylvara, meanwhile, tried to reason with it.

"Come on, Mr. Guardian! You don't have to do this! Think of all the fun we could have as friends!"

The golem responded by hurling another boulder at her.

Sweet Victory

In the end, they defeated the Chocolate Guardian by tricking it into stepping onto one of the wafer bridges, which collapsed under its weight. The golem sank into the molten chocolate, its caramel eyes flickering out.

"Whew," Kazuya said, collapsing onto the ground. "I am so done with candy."

Ravynne nodded. "Agreed."

Sylvara, however, was already poking at the Recipe again. "What's next?"
