"Could this Golbat already have a Trainer?" Gary wondered aloud as he observed the sleeping Pokémon.
Curious, he pulled out a Poké Ball and pressed it gently against Golbat's body. The ball opened, enveloping the Pokémon in a beam of red light. Since Golbat was asleep, the ball didn't even shake, confirming the capture almost immediately.
"If it can be captured, why is it starving?" Gary asked himself.
"Freee~!" Butterfree fluttered around Gary, celebrating the addition of a new teammate.
Gary was still puzzled, but Golbat was now part of his team, and he couldn't let his new Pokémon remain in such poor condition. He released Golbat from the Poké Ball and placed a few energy cubes into its large mouth.
Even in its sleep, Golbat's mouth twitched at the taste of the food. Moments later, it stirred awake, looking around in confusion.
"You must be hungry. Here, eat more," Gary said calmly, handing Golbat a few more cubes.
Golbat hesitated for a moment, but its instincts kicked in. Without chewing, it swallowed the cubes whole. Slowly, its bloodthirsty gaze softened, replaced by a look of calm clarity.

Understanding Golbat's Hunger
Seeing that Golbat had calmed down, Gary decided to figure out why it had attacked Butterfree earlier.
"Golbat, why did you attack us just now?" he asked gently.
"Da..." Golbat looked guilty, as if it hadn't meant to harm Butterfree.
Gary released Exeggutor, a Psychic-type Pokémon capable of telepathy. "Exeggutor, help me understand what Golbat is trying to say."
"Coconut egg!" Exeggutor nodded and used its psychic abilities to link Gary's thoughts with Golbat's.
Golbat began to explain, its tone filled with despair. Exeggutor translated the story:
This Golbat had been a Zubat until a week ago when it suddenly evolved. After evolving, it found that it could no longer eat the berries it had always enjoyed. Every attempt ended with the food being spat out.
Golbat's hunger worsened. It tried eating different foods, but nothing worked. At times, it even felt an urge to bite its fellow Zubat, but it resisted, unwilling to harm its kind.
Desperate and ashamed, Golbat left its group and wandered alone. The constant hunger and bloodthirst drove it mad, which was why it had attacked Butterfree upon sighting it.
"Da!" Golbat finished, looking down in despair.

Gary's Explanation
Gary placed a reassuring hand on Golbat's head. "Don't worry. This is normal for your species."
"Da?" Golbat tilted its head in confusion, as did Butterfree and Exeggutor.
Gary explained, "When you were a Zubat, berries were enough to sustain you. But now that you've evolved into Golbat, your dietary needs have changed. You require blood to survive—about 300 milliliters daily to stay healthy."
Golbat's eyes widened in shock, understanding its new nature.
"Da…" It let out a despondent cry, realizing it could no longer return to its companions without risking their safety.
"You'll stay with me from now on," Gary assured it. "I'll make sure you're well-fed and cared for. You don't have to face this alone."
Golbat hesitated, torn between its past and this new reality. But it eventually nodded, recognizing that it had no other option.
Gary smiled. "Welcome to the team, Golbat. My name is Gary, and I'll be your Trainer."
"Da!" Golbat nodded in agreement, finally finding some hope in its situation.

Golbat's Potential
After capturing Golbat, Gary examined its attributes:
Pokémon: Golbat ♂
Type: Poison/Flying
Level: 22
Potential: Gym
Ability: Infiltrator (Ignores barriers like Reflect and Light Screen.)
Skills: Absorb, Supersonic, Mean Look, Poison Fang
Intimacy: 136/255
Gary grinned. "This Golbat is promising. It even knows Mean Look—a rare and valuable skill."
He explained to Butterfree and Exeggutor, "Mean Look prevents an opponent from escaping during battle. It can't be taught and is only available through natural skill or inheritance. This alone makes Golbat a great asset."
Gary also appreciated Golbat's Infiltrator ability, which ignored defensive barriers, making it a formidable attacker.
"With proper training, Golbat can evolve into Crobat. Crobat's incredible speed and penetrating ability will make it an unbeatable force in battle," Gary noted.

Journey Through Mt. Moon
With Golbat leading the way, Gary navigated Mt. Moon with ease. As a native Pokémon, Golbat was familiar with every cave and path, helping Gary avoid dead ends.
It took three days to traverse the mountain and reach Cerulean City. During this time, Gary encountered a few Trainers who challenged him. Unsurprisingly, his team emerged victorious in every battle, further strengthening his Pokémon.
Training Progress:
Wartortle: Level 16 → 18
Exeggutor: Level 19 → 21
Butterfree: Level 15 → 19
Scyther: Level 16 → 18
Golbat: Level 22 (Unchanged)
By the time Gary arrived in Cerulean City, he was ready to take on new challenges and continue his journey to become a Pokémon Master.

Golbat's Journey
Golbat's story served as a reminder of how evolution brings both power and responsibility. Though it had been cast out by its group, it found a new family in Gary and his team.
Gary looked at the city skyline ahead, determination shining in his eyes. "This is just the beginning, Golbat. Together, we'll reach new heights."
Golbat chirped in agreement, feeling a renewed sense of purpose.
