Chapter 61 - Chapter 59: True Justice

Sunny, with both blades in hand, begins circling the monster, analyzing its movements and searching for a way to kill it. A thought crosses her mind.

"Answer me this—this warped room, is it separate from the main world? Yes or no?"

The creature chuckles. "Yes, it is a separate dimension—or what you humans call a pocket dimension."

Sunny smirks slightly. "Good. That means I don't have to worry about civilians."

Without hesitation, she dashes forward, slashing through the creature as she speeds past. Turning quickly, she watches as the monster re-forms itself. A mass of vines lashes out, wrapping around her leg, but she swiftly cuts them away before they can restrain her. She charges again, but the creature dodges by sinking into the floor and reappearing from the ceiling.

Reacting instantly, Sunny draws her revolver and mutters a phrase. "White Lotus flame, engulf my bullets."

The rounds in her revolver ignite with brilliant white fire, and in a split second, she unloads all six shots into the monster. Without missing a beat, she reloads, but before she can fire again, the creature lunges, slamming into her and knocking her to the ground.

The monster's vines strike relentlessly, each impact splitting and cracking the floor beneath her. Gritting her teeth, Sunny glares up at the creature before spitting fire directly into its face. As it recoils, she seizes the opportunity, unsheathing her longsword and slicing through its body.

The monster, now on the ground, regards her with an eerie calm. "I will simply keep regenerating. You know this, right?"

Sunny says nothing. Instead, she leaps forward, impaling her blade deep into its chest and channeling flames directly into its core. She knows it will continue regenerating, but it must be using mana or psychic energy to do so. The more pressure she applies, the more she can deplete its source of power.

Just as she prepares for another strike, a vine lashes down from above, narrowly missing her head as she flips backward to avoid it.

The creature begins to laugh once more, its voice reverberating through the room. Suddenly, a thick black miasma engulfs the space, twisting and warping it even further. The once-contained pocket dimension starts to resemble the Abyss itself.

As the world around her distorts and warps, Sunny sighs. "Jeez, you really are making it your life's goal to be a huge pain in my ass, huh?" She points her blade at the creature and ignites it with white flames.

Without hesitation, she charges forward, unleashing a relentless flurry of slashes. The creature screams in agony before retaliating, knocking Sunny hard against the wall. It swings its tendrils at her before charging what appears to be black lightning. In an instant, it fires multiple bolts at her while she lies on the ground.

Sunny clenches her fist and punches the ground before forcing herself to stand, her body twitching slightly from the residual shock. Then, she smirks. A laugh escapes her lips, echoing throughout the warped space. With renewed determination, she channels even more white flames into her blade and unleashes two flaming slashes at the creature. Both attacks strike true, sending the monster crashing to the ground, engulfed in searing fire.

Yet, once again, the creature begins regenerating. The room continues shifting, becoming more and more like the Abyss itself.

Sunny smirks, stabbing both of her swords into the ground. She gives the creature a thumbs-up before slowly turning her hand downward into a thumbs-down.

"Will Technique—activate: Karmic Justice."

Sunny's unique will ability, Karma, is a dangerous technique, affecting everyone within its given range, which can span from a hundred feet to over a mile. Everyone afflicted by her judgment is weighed equally. Justice is blind—under the eyes of Karma, all are judged without exception.

Behind Sunny, a massive golden scale manifests, its balance shifting heavily toward evil. The creature stares in confusion. "What is th—" It is cut off as an intense burning sensation overtakes it.

Suddenly, its entire body is engulfed in white and purple flames. It attempts to regenerate, but the fire burns hotter and faster than it can recover.

As the creature thrashes and screams, Sunny watches with an emotionless, calm expression. "Hopefully, everyone you've killed and devoured throughout your existence can finally find solace and rest."

The creature looks up at Sunny one last time before crumbling away—not quite dead yet, but doomed to perish. It will return to the Abyss in an attempt to heal, but eventually, it will run out of mana and fade away.

The room begins to revert to its original state; the walls stop twisting and shifting, and the eerie abyssal presence fades. The corpses once fused into the monstrous flowers fall lifelessly to the ground. Sunny walks over and checks their pulses, but she feels nothing. With a sigh, she pulls out her phone and calls Sanctuary.

After one ring, someone picks up.

"Hello, this is Hunter Sunny. Reporting in—the job's done. The abyssal creature was killed, just like you all predicted. It had been going around making deals. Oh, and one more thing—there wasn't a talking tree like the scientists claimed. When they brought us there, it was just an empty room."

She listens for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, I agree. Probably just abyssal mind tricks and whatnot." After a few seconds, she hangs up the phone.

As she turns to leave, something catches her eye—a tree branch sticking out of the wall through the cracks. She stares at it for a moment and nods slightly. The branch twitches before retreating into the shadows.

Sunny steps out of the room, and Luna immediately runs over, wrapping her arms around her in a tight hug as she removes her threads in the process.

"Did you win!?" Luna asks excitedly, smiling up at her.

Sunny nods, resting a hand on Luna's head. "Yeah, I won, partner. Sanctuary will be here soon."

Sunny's smile remains as she nods. "Alright, I said I was going to have a word with the scientist, but Sanctuary will have plenty to say to everyone here. So, let's head out."

The group takes the elevator back up and informs Ricardo that everything has been taken care of. With their job complete, they prepare to leave.

Stepping out of the building, they take a deep breath, the tension finally easing. Now, they're ready to enjoy their stay in Mexico City for the next few days.
