Chapter 22 - Shadows of Power

In this vast galaxy, there are numerous planets, all ruled by seven major families:

1. Darnath Family – Specializes in law enforcement and elite military operations.

2. Krevon Family – Renowned for their martial prowess and dominance in beast taming.

3. Alythian Family – A family with deep ties to ancient knowledge and mysticism.

4. Tharaxis Family – Masters of intergalactic trade and diplomacy, often controlling key resources.

5. Vorath Family – A shadowy family with influence over espionage and covert operations.

6. Zerathion Family – Known for their technological advancements and strategic brilliance.

7. Velcro Family – Guardians of galactic order, working to repel beasts from invading planets.

Each family monopolizes vast resources and wealth, shaping the balance of power across the galaxy. On one of the central planets resides the main Darnath family, the enforcers of law.

Inside the Hall of the Darnath Family

The grand hall was an imposing sight, its high vaulted ceilings adorned with intricate carvings of legendary battles fought by the Darnath family. The walls shimmered faintly, embedded with crystals that pulsed with energy, casting an ethereal glow over the room. At the far end of the hall, on an elevated throne, sat the patriarch of the Darnath family, Lord Alaric Darnath. His broad shoulders and long hair, cascading down to his waist, gave him an aura of unyielding authority. One arm rested casually on the armrest of his throne, while the other supported his face as he gazed down at the two men kneeling before him.

The two figures trembled visibly, sweat beading on their brows despite the cool air in the hall. They were Kael Aeloria, the grand elder of the Aeloria branch family, and Ardyn Aeloria, the patriarch of the same branch. Both were seasoned men, yet in the presence of Lord Alaric, they seemed like cornered prey.

"So," Lord Alaric's voice was deep and commanding, reverberating through the hall. "You're telling me that a mere child stole a treasure from under your noses and managed to escape your planet? This, despite the security measures you claim to have in place?"

Kael's voice quavered as he attempted to respond. "I... I am sorry, my lord. I tried my best, but—"

His words were abruptly cut off. In the blink of an eye, a streak of light flashed through the air. Kael's head separated from his body, and blood sprayed onto the polished floor, pooling at the feet of Ardyn, who flinched but dared not move. The lifeless body of the grand elder slumped to the side, leaving a chilling silence in its wake.

Lord Alaric's expression remained impassive as he lowered his hand, a faint glow dissipating from his fingertips. "I do not want excuses," he said coldly. "Find that child, retrieve the treasure, and eliminate him. Do I make myself clear?"

Ardyn swallowed hard, his face pale as he struggled to maintain his composure.

"Yes, my lord. It will be done."

"Good." Lord Alaric's gaze bore into him, a silent warning against failure. "You are dismissed."

Ardyn rose shakily to his feet, bowing deeply before turning to leave. He motioned for his subordinates to collect Kael's body, his expression a mixture of bitterness and anger. As he exited the hall, his mind raced with thoughts of the consequences should he fail again. The grand elder had been a close confidant, and his death was a harsh reminder of the stakes involved.

Once aboard his spaceship, Ardyn barked orders to his assistant. "Send agents to every Velcro outpost in the vicinity. I want any reports of an unidentified boy fitting the description. Use the image we have."

His assistant nodded, hurrying to carry out the command. Ardyn clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. "That child will not escape me. My family's survival depends on it."

At the Academy

Unaware of the turmoil his actions had caused, Aidan was in one of the academy's training facilities. The room was filled with the sounds of clashing weapons and the roars of beasts as other students practiced. Aidan, however, was seated against the wall, his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. Sweat dripped from his brow, soaking his training uniform. Beside him, his beast, Hope, lay sprawled on the ground, panting but looking equally determined.

Aidan opened his system panel, the familiar interface appearing before him.

Aidan couldn't help but smile as he reviewed the progress. His hard work over the past month had paid off. Hope had grown stronger, and his own skills had improved significantly. If given one more day, Hope would likely advance to the High Feral Stage.

Tomorrow, however, marked the start of the academy's monthly exams. Aidan's smile faded slightly as he considered the challenges ahead. He had only been at the academy for a little over a month, yet he had already reached a level that would shock most of his peers.

Hope nudged his hand with a soft whine, drawing him out of his thoughts. Aidan reached out to scratch behind the wolf's ears, earning a contented rumble in response. Hope has grown a little in height.

"We've come this far," he said softly. "We're not stopping now."

Hope's tail thumped against the ground, as if in agreement. Aidan pushed himself to his feet, determination gleaming in his eyes. He had a long road ahead, but with Hope by his side and the system guiding him, he was ready to face whatever challenges lay in his path.

He arrived at his dorm and saw both Bob and Kaed were talking to each other, ignoring him on purpose. It had been like this since the first day when they got to know that he was part of Elite Class.

He also chose to not to talk to them as that is better for him since he is here to become strong not to make friends.

He went ahead and slept in his bed praying for a better result for tomorrow.
