Shisui rushed through the streets of Konoha as he made his way to the Hokage's office.
The encounter he'd just had with the mysterious intruder playing in loop in his mind—the strange lightning jutsu, the way he was reading his move, his skill with ninjutsu—everything about the encounter had been strange,
And Shisui's instincts told him this intruder wasn't just some random shinobi.
Bursting into the Hokage's office, "Lord Hokage, we may have a foreign spy in the village," he reported,
"An intruder accessed the Uchiha shrine, claiming to be part of ANBU. He used powerful lightning jutsu and vanished with some unknown technique before I could stop him."
Minato looked at Shisui for few bets, processing the information. Then within minutes, he issued orders to summon all ANBU and intelligence operatives.
The seriousness in the his eyes conveyed the gravity of the situation—Konoha's security had been breached, and they needed to find out how deep the infiltration ran.
Within the hour, the ANBU had gathered at headquarters. Minato had called upon a team from the Yamanaka clan to assist in investigating the memories of each ANBU operative, ensuring that none of them had compromised the village or colluded with outside forces.
Shisui stood at the side, his arms crossed, watching as one by one, ANBU members stepped forward to have their memories inspected.
It was noting like he expected, as the Yamanaka operatives worked, a grim picture began to emerge. Many of the ANBU operatives had committed acts that went far beyond the line of duty.
Shisui watched in growing horror as memories surfaced—scenes of ANBU involved in war crimes, using their authority to intimidate villagers, and even manipulating shinobi under their control.
Some operatives were abusing the power they had been given, twisting it to satisfy their own selfish aims.
Shisui felt a chill run down his spine as he processed each dark truth revealed. He had always believed in the integrity of Konoha's shinobi, but the corruption he was witnessing shattered that faith.
Then, during one of the inspections, something unexpected happened. A few Jōnin, standing near door, made a sudden break for the door.
Their movements were quick, precise—too well-coordinated to be coincidence. They'd been on standby for the inspection but had apparently decided it was better to flee than to face what was coming.
Shisui and a group of other shinobi immediately gave chase, cornering the fleeing Jonin outside the headquarters.
Spy from hidden cloud realizing escape was impossible, reached up to their foreheads, fingers pressing into the center of a small, black seal, which was hidden behind their headband; it glowed for a brief moment before a blinding light erupted.
Shisui shielded his face, but he felt the sudden heat as the head of Jonin blasted away!
Shisui stared in stunned silence, drop of burn blood still raining on ground.
"Brutal" only word come out of his mouth.
As the ANBU gathered themselves after the incident, he returned to the Hokage's office, his face pale. "Lord Hokage," he said, barely able to contain the tremor in his voice, "it seems the spy may have been one of them who killed themselves. Those Jonin had hidden seals on them that activated upon capture. I suspect they were under orders from another village."
Minato sighed, his face marked with the weight of the truth. "It's possible. The Hidden Cloud has spies in every major village, and they're known for their lightning techniques."
"The intruder you encountered tonight must have used some form of Transformation Jutsu. It would explain his appearance and his skill with lightning."
Shisui nodded, though the thought left a sour taste in his mouth. He had been so close to capturing the intruder, yet now it seemed the mystery was only deepening.
The idea that the spy had used Transformation Jutsu to disguise themselves was troubling, yet it also made sense. They'd wanted to throw him off, using exaggerated lightning attacks and strange language to confuse him.
"Then the spy… he's gone?" Shisui murmured.
…
At same time minds of all chaos in village someone was in rather good mood.
Danzo sat alone in his dimly lit chamber, the silence broken only by his quiet, low laughter.
Word had already reached him that Minato's extensive sweep of the ANBU had been, for all its effort, …a failure.
The supposed spy had avoided capture, leaving Konoha's so-called leaders scrambling in vain.
"Foolish, brat," Danzo muttered "So blinded by honor and trust… and too soft to truly protect this village."
Unlike the Hokage, Danzo had taken matters into his own hands. As the ANBU were being interrogated, his loyal Root operatives had acted swiftly and decisively,
Seizing one of the spies before he could trigger his self-destruct seal. They had decapitated him!
Preserving the head in a specially-prepared sealing scroll, an effective yet brutal tactic to ensure that the information the spy carried would remain intact.
"Minato, your nothing but a pawn."
