Peter jogged a few steps and quietly followed behind Wendy Huang, trying his best not to alert her. Then, he kept glancing back at Gwen, signaling her to throw the baseball at Wendy's head.
Although Gwen had agreed to Peter earlier, now that she looked at Wendy's slender and delicate back and compared it to the hard baseball in her hand, she couldn't bring herself to throw it.
"Hey, Gwen, trust me!"
Peter noticed Gwen's hesitation and quickly whispered to her. Even though Gwen couldn't hear Peter's voice, his lip movements and expressions made it obvious what he was saying.
But Gwen and Wendy were also good friends, and Gwen couldn't overcome the hurdle in her heart.
"Whoosh!"
Suddenly, a baseball whizzed from the distance straight toward Wendy's head. Yet, Peter noticed that Gwen was still clutching the baseball he had given her, looking conflicted.
Without wasting time, Peter turned around and tensed his body, ready to help Wendy dodge the baseball or intervene if Wendy-the-Monster lost control because of it.
The baseball came closer and closer, about to hit Wendy's head. Even Peter prepared to step in, but then…
"Bang!"
Wendy's backpack suddenly shifted upward and knocked the baseball away, perfectly deflecting the attack.
As for how the soft backpack managed to repel a hard baseball, that was a mystery for the attacker and bystanders to solve. Wendy, the would-be victim, remained blissfully unaware and kept walking forward.
"Hey! Ese pig!"
A group of large white men, led by a small delinquent girl, blocked Wendy's path.
"Ese pig, where do you think you're going? Let me tell you, I can't stand pretentious people like you. Be a good girl and hang out with my boys for a while, or else I'll mess up that pretty face of yours!"
The delinquent girl spat out venomous words.
As they confronted Wendy, more people gathered around, casting sympathetic glances at her. Yet, none of them stepped forward to help.
Only Flash Thompson, who often bullied Peter, ran over and stood protectively in front of Wendy. Without even glancing at the delinquent girl, he addressed one of the large men behind her.
"Georgeson, that's enough! Bullying classmates is one thing, but doing something so despicable crosses the line. Even God wouldn't stand for this!"
"Hahaha!"
Before Georgeson could respond, the delinquent girl burst out laughing. "Flash, don't tell me you've fallen for this ese pig? Who doesn't know you're the biggest bully in our school?"
"What's going on? What's happening? How did things escalate like this?"
At that moment, Gwen ran over and grabbed Peter's arm, nervously asking.
"I don't know either," Peter replied. "Maybe Bablin doesn't like Mia. You stay here; I can't let them bully Mia."
With that, Peter tried to pry Gwen's hand off and step forward to intervene.
"Bablin, shut up! I'm warning you, if you push me too far, I'll smash your face in!"
Although Flash was the school bully, he still had some morals and boundaries. What Bablin intended to do clearly crossed Flash's line.
As Flash erupted in anger, a few tall, muscular guys in the crowd—his allies and enforcers—seemed ready to back him up.
The large guys from the baseball team, facing Flash's threat, began showing signs of retreat.
But just as the situation seemed likely to fizzle out…
"Ah!"
Out of nowhere, Wendy, the supposed victim, turned and smacked Flash away with her backpack.
Then, gripping the backpack strap with her right hand, she swung it forcefully. The bag spun and struck Georgeson square in the chest.
"Ow!"
Before Georgeson could react, the backpack sent him flying three or four meters. Then, as if defying the laws of physics, it spun back into Wendy's hand.
"Aha!"
While the onlookers stared in shock, Wendy let out an odd shout. Raising her backpack, she charged toward the baseball players and Bablin.
In truth, Wendy's cape had propelled her forward, causing her to cry out instinctively. Feeling it didn't match her recent heroic feats, she tried to add an intimidating "Ha!" But instead, it only made her sound more adorable.
"F***!"
The baseball players cursed and charged toward Wendy, unwilling to believe that a petite Asian girl with a backpack could defeat them.
"Bang!"
"Ah!"
The moment Wendy reached them, she didn't even appear to exert herself. With a simple upward swing of her backpack, she struck one player's chin, sending him flying.
"Whoosh—bang!"
"Ah!"
Next, Wendy spun in place, her backpack colliding with another player's waist. The man staggered back several steps, clutching his midsection, before collapsing to his knees. The spectators winced in sympathy.
"Whoosh!"
The backpack, now seemingly alive, darted left and right in Wendy's hands. In an instant, it knocked out the remaining players and Bablin.
Especially Bablin—the left cheek swelled to the size of Ned's face before he lost weight, a sight that made the crowd avert their eyes.
"Wait… how is Wendy this strong? Georgeson's one of the school's most infamous bullies, and there were four of them!"
A student exclaimed in disbelief.
"No, it was actually five. Don't forget Bablin," another corrected.
"Actually, six! Did you forget Flash?" yet another chimed in.
"Poor Flash…"
The crowd murmured their pity for Flash, who had tried to protect Wendy but ended up getting sent flying instead.
"Uh… Flash, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to," Wendy apologized sincerely, helping him up.
"It's fine," Flash replied awkwardly, shaking his head before sulking off to the cafeteria alone.
"Ese kung fu!!"
Suddenly, someone in the crowd shouted, "This must be kung fu! Amazing ese kung fu! How else could Wendy defeat Georgeson and the others?"
