Chereads / Marvel: Ned the Master of Mystic Arts / Chapter 49 - Unleashing the Mind Stone

Chapter 49 - Unleashing the Mind Stone

"Do you have your own agenda after all?"

Carol walked up to Ned, eyeing the Tesseract in his hands.

From the moment Ned entered and went straight for the Tesseract, Carol deduced that his target was undoubtedly this powerful artifact.

"No, I just think this thing looks rather peculiar."

Ned raised an eyebrow at Carol with a faint smile, then casually grabbed a metal toy box from a nearby table and placed the Tesseract inside.

"Here."

He handed the box to Carol.

Carol smiled slightly, taking the box. "Alright, my 'brother,' it seems you're truly 'selfless,' huh?"

"Why are there so many children's toys and beginner's books in Mar-Vell's lab?"

Maria Rambeau walked over, looking curiously at the children's toys and educational materials scattered on the table.

Hearing Maria's voice, Nick Fury also leaned over. After taking a look at the items on the table, he suddenly threw the orange cat aside, drew his gun, and scanned the area nervously.

"What the hell?! Someone else is here!"

"What?"

Carol instantly became alert, her fists glowing gold and red, ready to unleash a punch that could blast a hole through the spaceship.

"There's even a steaming cup of hot water on the table!" Fury shouted. "Talos! We've got the energy core! We're ready to go. There's an unknown enemy here! Ta... Talos?"

Following Fury's gaze, they saw Talos ignoring their commotion and standing at a junction of several corridors. He tilted his head back and let out a distinctively-toned howl.

As Talos's voice echoed, footsteps gradually approached, and countless Skrulls appeared from the corridors. Among them, a female Skrull, carrying a child, ran forward and hugged Talos tightly.

"He never came here for the energy core in the first place."

Nick Fury immediately realized what was going on.

"Yeah."

Carol nodded, then handed the metal box containing the Tesseract back to Ned. "It seems the Skrulls don't need this thing at all. You take it."

"Hmm?"

Ned looked confused.

"Do you really think I can't tell? You obviously have a particular interest in this Tesseract."

Carol said as she stuffed the metal box into Ned's hands. She then walked over to converse with the Skrull refugees.

Ned shrugged, glanced at the box in his hand, and casually threw it into the Mirror Dimension.

As for whether Coulson and Monica, trapped inside, might get hit by the thing, Ned wasn't worried. The Mirror Dimension was vast, and Coulson and Monica's movement was confined to a small cabin, far away from the Tesseract's location.

"Getting chummy with the enemy now, huh?"

Suddenly, the ship's passage door opened, and Yon-Rogg entered with a squad of Kree soldiers. "You think reactivating the ship's cloaking mode will make you safe?"

"Vers, you underestimate the technology of the Kree Empire. The moment you reappeared in space, we locked onto your position."

Reacting swiftly, Fury raised his gun to aim at Yon-Rogg, but the female Kree soldier, who had been at odds with Carol earlier, quickly disarmed him.

"What happened to your original uniform?"

Yon-Rogg glared at Carol's red-and-gold uniform with hostility.

"Yon-Rogg... you lied to me," Carol said with a grim expression.

The female Kree soldier sneered. "As expected, she's been brainwashed."

"The Supreme Intelligence will restore her to normal," another Kree soldier chimed in.

"Zzzt... Zzzt..."

Carol attempted to channel her photonic energy to blast away the Kree, including Yon-Rogg. However, the energy that had always obeyed her faltered, flickered a few times, and then extinguished completely.

"I told you, what we give, we can also take back," Yon-Rogg said mockingly, clearly prepared for this situation.

"Ahhh!!"

Carol, her fiery temper ignited by Yon-Rogg's smugness, let out a yell and charged at him with clenched fists, aiming a punch at his infuriating face.

"Buzz!!"

But Yon-Rogg had no intention of engaging Carol in a fistfight. The device on his arm activated, releasing a powerful energy pulse that immobilized her in mid-air.

"Bang!"

With a single punch, Yon-Rogg knocked out the defenseless Carol. Surveying the room and seeing that everyone had been disarmed and detained, he ordered, "Take Vers to the Supreme Intelligence."

With that, he turned and left.

As Carol was being taken away, Nick Fury kept glancing at Ned, who had already stored the Infinity Gauntlet and the Cloak of Levitation in the Mirror Dimension.

Carol's unstoppable firepower may have been unexpectedly neutralized, but wasn't Ned also quite capable in battle? Why wasn't he doing anything?

Ned, of course, noticed Fury's gaze but chose to ignore it. This was the perfect opportunity for Carol to unlock her full potential, and Ned had no intention of interfering.

"Species: Flerken. Danger Level: High."

One of the Kree soldiers scanned the orange cat with a device, then put a muzzle on it to seal its mouth.

Fury raised an eyebrow at this. The Kree soldier then used the same device to scan Fury.

"Species: Human male. Danger Level: Nearly zero."

"That thing is definitely broken," Fury muttered.

Next, the Kree soldier scanned Ned:

"Species: Human male. Danger Level: Nearly zero."

"See? I told you it's broken," Fury muttered again, glancing at Maria Rambeau, who was sitting to the side.

"Take the Flerken. Throw the rest into space," the female Kree soldier said, holding a high-tech box containing the orange cat.

"Are you going to act now?" Fury shuffled over to Ned and whispered after hearing the Kree soldier's words.

Ned gave an almost imperceptible nod. In an instant, the Infinity Gauntlet appeared on his right hand, with the Mind Stone emitting a faint yellow glow.

"Let's go."

One of the Kree soldiers approached to escort them but, instead of barking orders or pushing them, the soldier quietly crouched down and unlocked their high-tech restraints.

"What's going on?"

Fury flexed his wrists, dumbfounded.

The other Kree soldiers showed no reaction to this act of releasing the captives, as if it were entirely normal.

"Master, I am at your service," the female Kree soldier said, her eyes glowing blue as she gazed at Ned with an expression of utter devotion.
