Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Zhang felt much more at ease now that the gun situation had been taken care of.

In the apocalypse, having this weapon would give him a huge sense of confidence, whether he was facing humans or non-human creatures.

The next day, Zhang packed up some important items from his home and stored them in his space.

He was planning to turn his house into a safe haven, so he decided to temporarily move into a hotel.

Early in the morning, three black minivans pulled into the neighborhood.

A group of workers from the Dragon Warrior Company, all wearing uniforms, got out and began measuring Zhang's house.

Many of the neighbors who saw this were curious.

"Has Zhang lost his mind or something? What's with all these weird things he's doing lately?"

One neighbor laughed, saying, "I saw him in the supermarket the other day, pushing three shopping carts full of food!"

Another one chimed in, "Haha, maybe he thinks the apocalypse is coming. Who needs so much food? It'll all expire and go to waste!"

"Maybe he's really gone a little crazy..."

Everyone found Zhang's actions strange, but no one really cared. They just saw him as a joke.

Even Fang and Lin thought something was off with Zhang.

Lin suddenly had an epiphany and said with a smile, "I get it now! No wonder he went to that Michelin three-star restaurant the other day. He must have lost it!"

Fang frowned, feeling more and more annoyed.

She remembered how she had gone over to talk to Zhang that day, helped him push all those things home, and ended up so tired her legs almost gave out. The thought of it made her even angrier.

"This guy, what the hell is he doing?"

Lin worriedly asked, "But remember, he promised to take us out for a fancy dinner. He won't forget, right?"

She had been looking forward to that Michelin three-star meal for a while now!

Fang sneered, "Forget it. With how weird he's been acting lately, even if he does invite me, I wouldn't go."

"Imagine if people saw us eating with him? That would be so embarrassing!"

She had plans to catch a rich husband and couldn't afford to ruin her image over something like this.

Lin, though reluctantly, had no choice but to give up.

Zhang didn't care about any of this.

He knew that before long, everyone would see who the real joke was.

After leaving his home, Zhang drove to the Walmart warehouse, ready for work.

It was Monday, and he figured he might as well check out the warehouse, get a feel for things, and make sure everything was in place for the future.

The Walmart warehouse was located in the Economic Development Zone on the outskirts of Tianhai City.

This area was cheaper in terms of land, which is why so many large corporations had set up warehouses here.

Even some pharmaceutical companies had their warehouses in the area.

For Zhang, this was the perfect spot to get his hands on some special drugs when the time came.

When he arrived at the Walmart warehouse, Zhang punched in as usual.

As the warehouse supervisor, he was very familiar with every corner of this place.

He knew exactly what was on every shelf, every room layout, and the schedule like the back of his hand.

Normally, he found the job boring, just going through the motions day after day.

But today was different. Looking at all the mountains of goods in front of him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.

These goods were worth billions, and when the apocalypse hit, they would be his lifeline.

As Walmart's South China regional warehouse, the place was massive, filled with all kinds of necessities.

There were tens of thousands of cans of soda, food, clothes, hardware tools, even drones, diesel generators, and barrels of gasoline.

Pretty much anything you could buy in a supermarket, you could find here.

Zhang had worked here for years and knew every inch of the warehouse.

He knew the layout of every shelf, the schedule, and even the locations of the security cameras.

Although the security here was tight, Zhang knew all the loopholes.

He could disable the entire surveillance system in ten minutes and use his space abilities to quietly take everything.

But for now, Zhang wasn't in a hurry.

He knew there was plenty of time, and rushing would only raise suspicion.

So after taking a quick walk around to confirm his plan, he left the warehouse.

He grabbed a pack of Yellow Crane Tower cigarettes and headed to the nearby warehouse of Rui Ning Pharmaceuticals.

Since he had worked in the same area for so long, he was familiar with the staff there.

Zhang found Jack, the warehouse manager.

Jack's brother-in-law was the vice president of Rui Ning Group, so he had some special connections in the company.

Jack was known for sometimes "borrowing" some of the pharmaceutical products and selling them on the side.

Zhang took advantage of their relationship and struck up a conversation with Jack.

He subtly mentioned that he was looking for some special drugs for urgent illnesses and was willing to pay a high price.

"I'll pay double the market price if you can get me those drugs."

When Jack heard the offer, his eyes lit up, and he couldn't hide his excitement.

Without much hesitation, he agreed to the deal.

After some negotiation, they agreed that Zhang would pay 3 million for five large boxes of special drugs.

With the drug deal in place, Zhang's preparation for the apocalypse was almost complete.

With less than a month left before the world would change, Zhang decided there was no need to keep working.

He went to the manager's office and lied, saying that a relative from his hometown had passed away and he needed to take twenty days off to attend the funeral.

Zhang had a good relationship with the manager, and although the excuse was a bit far-fetched, the manager approved his leave without question.

For the next few days, Zhang planned to relax in a five-star hotel, waiting for his supplies to arrive and for the construction of his safe house to be completed.

As he was leaving the manager's office, he happened to see Fang standing by the coffee machine, gracefully pouring herself a cup of coffee.

Zhang couldn't help but admit, Fang definitely had the charm of a "green tea" type—there was something subtly seductive about her movements.

As she poured the coffee, her delicate posture and the little sway of her hips caught the attention of several young men nearby.

One of them, a guy named Zhou, was waving a pair of concert tickets and asked Fang if she wanted to go see Jay Chou perform. He was clearly trying to show off.

Zhang knew Zhou well, as they lived in the same neighborhood.

Zhou was also one of Fang's loyal followers, and Zhang remembered that in his past life, Zhou had played a part in his untimely demise.
