Mathew POV
The stack of papers on my desk seemed to stare back at me, a silent reminder of my responsibilities. No matter what personal chaos surrounded me, I was still the Alpha and the pack needed me to do my duties. Among them was preparing Liam to take over as Alpha one day.
Yet after last night, I couldn't help but feel he wasn't ready. He was too broken, weighed down by too much.
I let out a heavy sigh, resting my head in my hands, the pressure of it all pressing down on me.
The sound of the office door creaking open snapped me out of my thoughts. I lifted my head, and to my surprise, Klinton walked in.
Another sigh escaped me. I owed him an apology for Liam's behavior last night. "I was about to come see you," I said, my voice heavy with weariness. "I wanted to apologize for Liam's actions. What he did was… unlike him. I don't know what got into his head to act so foolishly."
