Liam POV
The coldness of the hospital hallway seeped into my back as I held McKayla close to me. I could never understand why hospital corridors were always so cold and eerily quiet, the kind of silence where even the sound of our footsteps seemed too loud.
We came to a stop in front of a closed door. The doctor opened it and ushered us inside. The room was dimly lit, with a single table in the center illuminated by a large overhead light.
"You can put McKayla on the table so we can quickly take an X-ray," the doctor said, her tone calm but efficient.
I nodded and glanced around, noticing a man seated behind a computer in the corner. The doctor walked over to him, speaking in a hushed voice as I approached the table.
Standing before the tall surface, I looked down at McKayla. Her nervous eyes, an enchanting mix of emerald and brown, locked onto mine. Her tiny hands clung tightly to my shirt, trembling ever so slightly.
