Chapter 1 - The betrayal.

It was midnight. The whole one bhk apartment was immersed in darkness except the bedroom, which was filled with the dim blue light of the computer screen.

A girl was sitting in front of the computer, her fingers were moving fast on the keyboard. Countless codes were floating on the computer, disappearing, floating again. She was busy with her work, occasionally taking a sip from the coffee mug placed on her desk.

Amy processed the final code and closed the page. It'd been three hours since she started, and her shoulders were aching. Shutting down the computer, she stood up; stretched her arms and went towards the balcony attached to her bedroom.

The weather was pleasant outside. A gentle breeze was blowing, swaying her loosely tied hairs. She stood in the balcony leaning on the railings and looked at the cityscape.

The city was lit even in the midnight. The skyscrapers, the roads and the citylights looked beautiful from the height of her apartment. Well, the city never sleeps.

She put on the earphone and played her favourite playlist. While listening to the music, she started scrolling the newsfeed of her social media account.

Soon, she stopped scrolling. A picture of some familiar faces caught her attention. It were her colleagues from her office, probably in a bar. But the two faces which particularly caught her attention were,

Jennie- her colleague, whom she used to think as her best friend

and

Rob- her ex boyfriend,

holding each other tightly in their arms, in the middle of the group of people.

She closed the application. The mood lightened a while ago, got bitter again. Suddenly the music also started sounding like a noise. She unplugged the earphones and looked outside again. A bittersweet smile appeared in the corner of her lips.

How fool she was!

She couldn't even guess that her boyfriend was cheating with her colleague behind her back! More over, that colleague, who she used to think as her best friend! With whom she used to share almost everything happening in her life!

And when the truth was revealed, she was the only one labelled as the troublemaker. She was told that she was clumsy, disgusting, nosy, jealous and selfish; and a person no one could be able to stay with.

How funny, right!

She headed back to her bedroom. She had to go to the office next day, so a good sleep was much needed.

....

"Hey, are you free tonight?"

Amy was washing her hands, suddenly she heard someone's voice behind her. It was Jennie, standing a little far away from her, leaning on the frame of the washroom's door.

"I'm throwing a little party for Rob's birthday, I really hope you can come and join us. All our colleagues will be there."

Is she joking! She is inviting her boyfriend's ex girlfriend in his birthday party, now what kind of play it is!

"Sorry, I have plans."

Amy answered without looking at her.

"Plans! But as far as I know, you don't have friends here, and you usually don't go out. With whom you're having plans now?"

Amy looked at her with a serious gaze.

"When a person declines an invitation, it's clear that she doesn't want to attend it at all. Stopp fussing and leave me on my own."

"I know that you're mad at me. But you don't have to be so harsh to me all the time! I just asked if you could come. Rob still thinks you as one of his friends. I know that now we are not that close as we used to be, but I still consider you as my best friend. It was just a friendly invitation."

Amy was taken aback. How suddenly her tone was changed! As if she was immersed in grief!

"Hey Jennie, what happened?"

One of their colleagues entered the washroom.

"Thanks for asking, but it's nothing to be worried for, Lara. Actually I was asking her if she could come, but I think she still hates me. Leave it, Are you coming tonight?"

"Ofcourse! Your parties are always best, I have to!"

Lara looked at her while replying Jennie.

Amy smiled. So it was the reason for all these drama. Once again, she was made a villainess in front of others. She left the two girls behind, and headed towards her desk.

...

Tonight, Amy completed her works a little earlier. She sat in the balcony with a bottle of chilled beer. She was lost in thoughts. So many things were going on in her head.

Why my life is so different than others! Why can't I be happy like others! Why am I always guilty, even when I'm right?

Every time she was alone, she didn't have any work to do, these thoughts popped up in her mind everyday, yet, there were no answers. Or probably, were!

....

From her childhood, Amy's life was not so good like others. Her parents never wanted a girl child, from her birth they didn't love her at all. All their love and cares were reserved for her younger brother.

She was an introvert since childhood, she could never be able to make friends. She barely went out of her house. Amy was easy to bully because she really didn't have anyone to support her, neither in home nor in the school. Even if her brother did anything wrong, the blame was on her, and as a result she used to get beaten up.

All these together made her shy, anxious, introvert and timid. Whenever got into trouble, she always used to find a way to escape rather than fighting or standing for herself. And this way, her highschool as well as university ended.

Well, there was also a good thing. As she usually stayed alone, she put her hundred percent in studies, and became successful academically. She got a good placement after graduation and left the city she lived in for the entire twenty two years of her life.

In a new city, she started her life anew. No familiar faces were there, so no past traumas also. She took her job seriously, and soon made a great progress there.

Meanwhile two good things happened again. In her life, for the first time she made a friend. It was Jennie, her colleague who also joined in the same year with her. They became best friends. Jennie was a very outgoing person who loved to laugh and live her life to the fullest.

Amy started sharing so many things with her. She also used to listen to her very carefully. Eventually, Jennie became an essential part of her life.

The second good thing was, falling in love!

Yes!

The introvert shy girl finally fell in love! It was Rob- a guy from another department of her office. First, they used to meet for official works, but she didn't know how, soon it turned into personal meetings.

They used to meet after the office hour, talk about their life, passion, likes and dislikes. They talked about their future, career and so many more things. Amy started to believe that good things also happens in life. She smiled a little more everyday. In this way, two years passed in a blink of an eye!

But, it all started after two years. She remembered, there was a post for promotion, and two employees from her department were nominated for it, she and Jennie. But in the end, she was selected for the promotion.

That day, she saw something in Jennie's eyes. She thought that maybe she was sad because she couldn't make it. That day she couldn't find out what was in her eyes, but now she knew. It was..

Jealousy.

From then, slowly things started changing. Suddenly, both Rob and Jennie got busier, she was also busier than before because of the promotion. Though she tried to make time to spend with Rob and Jennie, somehow it was not happening. When she had time, they hadn't; and when they wanted to go out, she couldn't.

Day by day, Rob seemed to become distant. Jennie also didn't spend time with her like before. And she started being lonely once again.

She clearly remembered that day. She was working late for a new project. When it finished, it was almost night. She headed home, but soon changed her mind and went to the club nearby. She was not a regular drinker, but that day she wanted to drink a little, alone.

Amy was sitting on a high stool at the counter, sipping her drink. Suddenly her eyes got stuck to the dance floor. More specifically, on a couple dancing so closely.

Are they Rob and Jennie! But how can this be possible!

She thought she saw it wrong, but then to confirm, she went towards them. On the dance floor, no one really cared about others. So the couple were busy with themselves.

Soon, her suspicions turned into reality.

It was indeed Rob and Jennie. While dancing, Rob grabbed her waist and pulled her to him. Jennie also wrapped her arms around Rob's neck, and in the next moment they started kissing each other!

Amy was shocked. She forgot how to react. After moments, a few words came out of her throat.

"So, this is what you were busy with? Dating each other!"
