Chapter 1 - Demon Attack

I glanced at the window. I can see all the small pieces of buildings fall, the cracked walls, broken windows, and crumbling foundation of this area. There are a lot of cracked parts, and demons always attacked us here every night.

They killed people brutally, and there are demon hunters here. They are the great warriors who protect us, but some of them do not. Some of these great demon hunter warriors are actually arrogant.

"These kinds of persons do not deserve to be called warriors since they must serve and protect, not abuse people around them," I mumbled, glancing at their direction.

I jump off from the huge window that has a little crack on its glass. I heard the people clamoring due to some demon hunter warriors' abusive power. They were asking for more pennies from the people here even though people actually have no money. This city has been attacked by demons for a very long time, which made this city turn into a remnant.

"Hi, Darcy!" Claudia greeted me, so I waved to her.

She approached me. "What?" I asked.

"Aren't you going to help that old lady?" she asked me.

"I'm not as strong as them," I replied to her, nonchalantly.

"I wish you could," she said in a sad tone.

"They must be the ones who will serve and protect us without any good deeds in return to them since they chose their fate to become hunters that will protect this city from those demons," I replied, explaining my opinion while walking.

"You have a point," she said, nodding in agreement.

We all suffered from being controlled by these abusive demon hunter warriors. We lost our freedom due to the presence of demons that restricts our movement. The constant threat of demon attacks creates fear in all people, so by the time the sun fades out, people must be inside their homes already.

Living in this city before was quite good, not until the demons came. They came from a parallel universe, since a dark violet portal suddenly appeared that time, and we have no idea who opened that portal.

Eight years ago, this city—this world—started to become a post-apocalyptic one. Where the demon apocalypse started when they attacked and conquered this city. There's a place where you can register as one of the great warriors, but only hunter warriors can enter since they have the passcode.

I gaze up. "You know what, Claudia, even the flying vehicles are becoming few since they were destroyed by the demons," I said, remembering that day happened eight years ago.

"You were right and I guess there's no other way to turn back, where everything is actually peaceful," Claudia replied, admitting that I have a point again.

Everyone's glancing at me but it doesn't matter anymore. These demon hunter warriors were around, especially the man with a Blade at his side.

"That's Covyn Reeve, and everyone told that he's the master of the blade since he got the Blade of Shadows, but we must be careful about this guy. One wrong move and he'll going to slash us in just a second." She told me about him, and this guy is really intimidating.

"I know," I responded.

He glanced at us but we didn't bother to gaze at him, so he just walked away. He has piercings in his eyebrows, and upon looking at him, you could already tell how arrogant he is. The crowds were clamoring as people walked in the same street and talking about what happened last night.

We turned right where there's a broken streetlight, and this little way was in the middle of these broken buildings. People here we saw crossing paths, and we could tell on their expressions that they were filled with fear.

We saw Nebula riding a motorcycle; it was futuristic but looked somewhat old. It's sleek and dark-colored, almost black, with bright teal or aqua accents along the engine and wheels. The design is very streamlined and modern, almost like something out of a science fiction movie. The wheels are unique, appearing almost enclosed or covered. It looked powerful and fast.

"What's up, Darcy and Claudia?" he asked, smiling and turning his back to face us while riding his motorcycle.

"Nothing," I replied. He nodded and accelerated his motorcycle.

As we were walking, we passed the dumping site where lots of waste and everyday things were discarded. There was also a broken sword, the sword of the person who deserved to be called a great demon hunter warrior. She chose to risk her life and die to protect everyone in this town, but it seemed like they had already forgotten her.

"I would never forget her bravery as a woman," I commented, glancing at the broken sword.

"She chose to face death rather than watch demons brutally kill people," Claudia agreed, staring at the destroyed sword.

"She was extraordinary," I added, remembering the night she fought all those demons.

As the sun began to fade, everyone in town returned to their homes. They closed all the doors and windows because demons were attacking the town again this night.

We could hear them growling as they used their sense of smell to look for humans. They were four-legged, had burgundy fur, and red eyes that glowed in the night. People huddled together on one side of the rooms, away from the doors and windows.

"Just be quiet," Claudia whispered, having chosen to stay with me.

"Just don't talk, Claudia, because they can hear everything with their senses; they're very close," I replied in a low, quiet voice. She nodded.

Though these demons looked like animals, they could somehow speak. "Aren't you going to back off?" I heard Neima ask outside.

"Don't underestimate them, Neima," Marcelene stated, and I felt relieved.

They were smart and possessed greater intelligence, though we didn't know where they came from. We heard a loud, deep laugh from outside that made us shiver with fear.

"Do you still want to see the last moonlight?" I heard a demon ask.

Neima chuckled. "That's nonsense," she replied, until I heard her scream and the sound of her arrow.

I even heard Marcelene using her blade and the sound of blades clashing. Their growls were hurting our ears, so we covered them with our palms.

We crawled backward when we overheard a sound from the windows. Then the sound of arrows followed, even making holes in my house. This isn't good; the sounds of arrows were everywhere. Are we going to die tonight?

"Darcy, just keep hoping that when the sun rises, everything will be alright," Claudia said, still hoping despite her growing panic.

"Just hang on, okay?" I said, trying to calm her.

I also started to panic when arrows flew into my house; I guess these demons were playing around, wanting to feast on human flesh again.

Until we heard a clashing sound near the window and a man's groans. His voice sounded familiar; a loud thud followed. The sound of shadows could also be heard outside, and honestly, this town was now a living nightmare.
