Chapter 26 - Mistake II

Zara's POV

I feel myself being led toward the bed at the end of the room. My head is swimming, the edges of my vision blurring. Before I can react, I'm pushed onto the bed. Mr. Seryaklov's voice cuts through my disoriented thoughts: "This is going to be fun." A sinister tone laces his words, and my heart sinks.

Kara's POV

"Where is Zara?" I ask Damian through the earpiece, my voice tight with worry.

"I don't know," Damian replies, regret weighing heavily in his tone. "They just vanished."

I pause mid-step, trying to process his words. "What do you mean, vanished?"

Before he can answer, Flash's voice cuts in. "No, she didn't. She and Mr. Seryaklov are in his study right now. Left side of the building."

I'm already moving when a man steps in my path, blocking my way. He smiles, oblivious to my urgency.

"Excuse me, please, I need to get through," I say, trying to keep my composure.

"At least tell me your name," he insists, his persistence grating on my nerves.

I grit my teeth. "I'm Kara. I have to go now," I snap, finally brushing past him and breaking into a run.

Damian's POV

I sprint toward the study, my mind racing. When I reach the door, I find it locked. Pressing my ear to the door, I hear Hugo's voice: "This is going to be fun." My blood boils.

Without hesitation, I kick the door down. The sight inside makes my stomach churn—Zara is sprawled on the bed, her eyelids fluttering as if she's struggling to stay conscious. Hugo is looming over her, his intentions clear.

Rage floods my veins. I charge at him, grabbing him by the collar and throwing him to the ground. The force of the impact knocks him out cold.

I kneel beside Zara, gently shaking her shoulder. "Zara! Zara, can you hear me? Are you okay?"

Her eyes flicker open, her voice faint. "The documents… over there." She weakly gestures toward a desk near the bed.

I glance over and spot the stack of papers. Snatching them up, I slip them into my vest. "Come on, let's go," I say, lifting her into my arms.

Kara's POV

I arrive just as Damian carries Zara out of the study. "Is she…?" I trail off, touching her forehead.

"She's fine. Let's go," Damian says, his tone brooking no argument.

We move quickly, making our way out of the mansion and toward the car where Flash is waiting.

Zara's POV

Dimly aware of the movement around me, I lean against Damian's shoulder as he places me gently in the car. His presence feels steady, reassuring. Kara slides in beside us, and I hear Mr. Wayne's calm voice.

"Let's go," he says, patting Damian's shoulder.

As the car begins to move, the adrenaline fades, and I drift in and out of sleep. The last thing I see is Damian glancing down at me, his expression unreadable.
